From my own (current) experience trying to get the opposite faction pet, and already having a DK, just some thoughts.Suggested races: Goblin, Troll, Worgen or Night Elf.Suggested classes: Druid (feral), Shaman (enhance), Mage (arcane), or Rogue.Additional suggestions: Grab Herbalism and Mining as you pass through if you're going to try and survive any incounters or try to buy a mount at 20. Herb because of small heal and only a 10c price to possibly AH a stack for 20g. Mining because of survivability buff at 75 and AH possibility of up to 50g. (Obviously prices depend on server and mat.) Also, if you can join a guild, it is suggested for mutual benefit. After all, level 2+ gives you some nice perks, and you being in the guild while you gather coins gives them guild exp.
@AingealWroth: Despite the XP you can accumulate while gathering, wouldn't it be more efficient to transfer gold from your main faction by trading stuff at absurd prices through a neutral auction house? Unless you intend to play the alternate faction toon afterwards, I think you would want to do the same thing in reverse to drain the gold from them.In any case, perhaps it's worth mentioning that Auctioneer and similar addons allow an auction house to be monitored in real time, so the best defense against ningas would be to set a reasonable price when selling the lantern across the neutral auction house. A trade the other way can bring most of the gold back. The auction house will take a cut, though.
While it was tedious - I did this over a few days on a goblin mage - starting from level 13 (when I exited the goblin starting zone).Just under two hundred total deaths and was level 19 when the 50th coin was gotten. It is possible to get from Darkshore to Teldrassil by swimming (and blinks and racial jumps) - died from fatigue just near the start of Tedrassil zone and was able to corpse run and rez and get into the zone before fatigue took over.Even at that low level the only real problem spots were Astrannar and Dolonar - the sentinels were just shooting too quickly - although the listed bind and macro would have probably made the difference. Getting to the extra four elders in Northrend was a bit of a chore - Honor Hold to DEHTA was the worst part - the two in Sholozar were quite straightforward. One of the two in Uldim was quite tricky.I did have assistance getting through Ungoro and Silithus and Ferelas - but in general if you stick to the roads you can make quite good progress in any zone and with blink and racial jump it was often possible to outrun the various hostiles.Spirit rezzers were quite useful at times also.
Elder Starweave is incorrectly placed near now-ruined Auberdine on the overview map - the co-ordinates provided correctly show her near Lor'danel.
Elder Northal in Northrend can be marked as "easy" instead of summon. I was just doing this tonight on a fresh ally DK and as I was travelling in Northrend for my last few, I was taking the long route back to Valiance Keep after Elder Pamuya. Got killed by a mob of kobolds, spirit res'd at Amber Ledge to acquire the flight master there, the red dragon. When you acquire that flight master, you get the flght path for Transitus shield as well, though it costs you 50s instead of being free like it normally would while you're on the quest. Thus, I flew to Transitus Shield and easily picked up Elder Northal before taking the flight path to Dalaran.
Very good! I got my Alliance pet after dying a lot to opposing fraction guards. The auto accept and complete quest thing is a must if you can't survive a couple hits in a hostile area. Also the flying is very helpful and most guilds are nice enough to let people in to use the perks. Loving the great guides that this website produces.
Great guide, thank you! I now have two alts in addition to my main that can fly (so getting 1-3 lanterns isn't difficult), but my Warlock Engineer is still an earthbound level 41 nub. I kinda wanted to get the 6 different BoP Engineering Schematics available during the event (at 5 Coin of Ancestry each, requires 30 Coin of Ancestry total) and this guide is perfect for that purpose as well.
