During the scheduled server maintenance on the week of January 31, the Dragon Soul raid will become enveloped by the “Power of the Aspects” spell, reducing the health and damage dealt of all enemies in the raid by 5%. This spell will grow progressively stronger over time to reduce the difficulty and make the encounters more accessible. The spell will affect both normal and Heroic difficulties, but it will not affect the Looking for Raid difficulty.
The spell can also be disabled by talking to Lord Afrasastrasz at the beginning of Dragon Soul, if a raid wishes to attempt the encounters without the aid of the Dragon Aspects.
For those of you who raided in Firelands and/or Icecrown you’re no doubt aware that as time goes on we want to keep people progressing by adjusting the difficulty. For any number of reasons a group may be having difficulty on a specific encounter each week, and our intent in adjusting the content is to ensure the ability to keep progressing, enjoying the content, and gearing up. With Icecrown we progressively buffed the players, and while this slow progression (and ability to opt-out of the buff) were both beneficial, it led to an expectation of your characters power, and once you left the raid you could certainly feel less effective. For Firelands we attempted to fix that by nerfing the content instead of buffing players, but we nerfed the content difficulty all at one time, which was counterproductive for players who really didn’t need as severe a change as we made. With Dragon Soul we’re attempting to do the best of both by having a progressive nerf to the content, keeping player power constant while providing small increases in assistance over a long period of time, as well as allowing players to opt-out of the assistance by speaking to Lord Afrasastrasz.
We hope you continue to enjoy Dragon Soul, and that these changes encourage you to attempt a higher difficulty, or just keep pushing to down that next boss.
Heh, hey, look what's back.
Yep, i am going to keep enjoying DS! thanks! :D
Ahhhh.. .Good! I was hoping they would bring back the LK style buff where you could choose to do it with or without the damage buff.Only bad thing will be all the pvp players saying, "OH ITS SOOO EASY, I JUST PUGGED IT IN ALL PVP GEAR AND IT WUZ TOO EASY. PVE SUX LOL PVPFTW"as the buff increases more and more. But, that's tolerable I guess.
Really...so loLFR God-Mode raid wasn't enough, now they are going to nerf the real raid down too. The way I understood it, was the ICC buff was there so that more people could have a chance at seeing end-game content....and that LFR was there....so more people could have a chance at seeing end game content. What is the point of having both? If you can't beat normal DS, run LFRAt some point, the dumbing down of the game just becomes an insult to even the most casual player, and this may be that point.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo that SUCKS!ICC Buff was WAY Better.... More Damage, more Fun... But this nerfing bosses -.- Not fun at all!
I don't see why this is more important than normal progression by gathering high ilvl items and improving one's skills at handling any given encounter.LFR takes care of people "wanting to see" the content, which is street slang for "get fat lewtz just lyk reel raydurrz."Why is this necessary? You've already said there won't be a filler patch prior to Pandaria, so no Halion for this expansion. Unless DS is going to be brutally short, any decent guild has an excellent chance to full-clear normal before expansion's end without this buff. My own guild last week got both our first normal-mode Blackhorn and Spine kills. This week we're taking on Madness, so we can start working on Heroics. We worked for these kills, and we progressed (albeit slowly, I will admit). We're not hardcore. We just like raiding. Why is nerfing content necessary when anyone can progress normally? It just takes time and effort and organization. If you can't do those things, maybe raiding isn't for you.
And same as ICC, there is an NPC to talk to turn the buff off.
True @ Backstab... Wanted to do Hagara HC today but couldn't because my group doesn't have enough gear already.. so we just farmed normal Mode and will do until our gear is enough... we don't need nerfs!
Why should anyone turn it off? Saves time... BUT it gives noobs the ability to kill Encounters they wouldn't without this nerfs... thats what people complain about... Bad people get the same Gear as good People... that ain't nice.... And... some people raided for it.... the noobs just freeloot it
I'm fine with the icc buff (ds nerfs?), many guilds can't get to see Deathwing with their raid group. But why heroics? There is no reasoning behind that.I guess since you can experience the whole raid in LFR anyway, there really isn't a point to normal mode progression, so heroics are the new normals... But now we need a new difficulty tier!
I don't really understand the logic behind this.I mean, I did with ICC, they wanted as many people as possible to kill the lich king, and that's cool, but on cata we got the LFR, which pretty much ensures EVERYONE can take a shot at Deathwing. If everyone can take a shot at deathwing now, and have high chances to win (its pretty darn hard to wipe on the LFR) then why implement this nerf to the regular DS?I thought the intention was that if you just wanted to experience the lore behind DS you just hop on the LFR, and if you wanted to experience the challenge of taking down a boss on reg or heroic, you hop on reg and heroic.if they take away the challenge from reg and heroic then what remains? again, I'd understand this change (and aprove of it) if there was no LFR, as everyone "should" be able to experience the end raid, but come on.......also, isn't it a bit soon? the ICC buff wasn't added till april, well over 4 months after ICC opened. This time they dind't even waited 2 months.
The challenges that made wow great are all gone now. With Blizzard focused on "letting all the kids see end gamecontent" and Panda bears on the way, all raids will be faceroll.Face it, wow is spinning down to it's utter death. Hardcore raiderswill leave because raids are a joke, and the kiddies that finally kill the last boss will be board.
Fozgaz, The thing is...the expansion isn't over yet...its not even close. Yes, people ARE dedicated, I agree 100%. Our guild is just getting going in Heroic content, and we still have groups progressing through normals. That is my point. the nerf isn't necessary, at least not yet.
Really dumb and way too soon. At least it can be turned off unlike the firelands disaster. Blizzard just isn't giving 'normal' players enough time to progress through normal and heroic anymore. I highly doubt there are very many guilds that are stuck because normal or heroic are simply 'too hard', it's all a matter of gearing up and practicing.
