Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of World of Warcraft players around the world who purchased the Cenarion Hatchling pet, we’ve raised a total of more than $1.9 million USD to support the ongoing earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan. In May, we announced that for every Cenarion Hatchling purchased by July 31, 2011, 100% of the $10 USD adoption fee would be going to assist victims of this disaster -- and the community responded by opening up their hearts and wallets wide. Thanks again for your support and for helping to make an impact on the lives of those affected by these events.

blizzard is badass. they will make up for it another way
Is it not possible that World of Warcraft is simply selling out?I personally quit back in January, recently came back for a 7 day free-period and then didn't resubscribe.I'm just fed up with the same pattern the game follows. Kill villain, collect shiny loot to enable you to kill bigger villain, collect shiny loot.. rinse repeat. The only thing that would bring me back would be more exciting PvP, but classes aren't balanced. Questing is predictable and unimaginative now, and the economy is exploited by a botting and farming issue that hasn't been fully addressed.
lolololololololthis was awesome!
I'm one of those 300k+ at this point... I quit WAY back in November... actually like 3-4 weeks after release.. but the ball was in motion for a while. For me, the loss of subs was a one two punch from Indie gaming and Steam sales. I loved Wow. My favorite Xpac was Wrath. I would log in, and with about 6-7 friends we would do some raids, have some fun and collect loot. We would do steamroll heroics, get loot fast and just have a really good time. To us, Wow was a social experience and at the time it was worth it. But as time went on, I was introduced to Minecraft and Terraria... MC had a HUGE impact on the "social" side of things. We now play MC together on not so stable servers. We built things together, we hung out and pvp'd and made traps and whatever else. We stopped logging into wow.. Then we grabbed L4D2 and then Terraria.. soon we realize that for a little over the cost of ONE MONTH of Wow, we were playing together in different environments. That's where Steam came in. Affordable games, both single and multi made quitting Wow a no brainer on my part. I tried Rift, and I liked it, but in terms of the amount of fun to the amount of dollars spent it was just no longer worth it. Since I've left Wow, I've played Terraria, MC and Europa Universallis 3 with all my Wow friends... Today, I pay 10 dollars a month to have a stable MC server up all the time.. we're building and playing together and having fun!I think, the rise in affordable games (Steam) but more importantly, Indie games is changing how gamers see AAA titles... I know I won't be getting Diablo 3, after all the experiences I've had to date I cannot consciously accept paying50+ dollars for one new game.. when I could get some really great older "budget" titles for a LOT less. That was my experience and the reason why I have been able to stay away from Wow. The "why" was simple. After seeing the changes, I predicted the queues would get longer, raiding would be less common and small guilds would suffer. Also the large shift away from WotlK to a more "hardcore" game would alienate tons of people.. like myself... I'm not speaking in absolutes... just sharing the journey.
I just recently quit in july. I used to be a hardcore fan of wow lore and music and I also loved the game. I knew wow was headed for destruction the day cataclysm was announced as an expansion, deathwing really did wrought cataclysm after all ..... people just dont see the threat they cant raid yet.BC was the best expansion and Wrath was a great expansion , cata sucked. I remeber the best times I had in Wow where when i raided Ulduar with my guild in a very comedic and lore-full way. we laughed at all the stupid stunts and the nice mechanics and the awesome music, gawd i loved the music in some raids.Anyways i didn't really like any of the raids in cata and getting into the was such a pain only seconded by the hassle of staying in one without getting kicked. Like honestly I was playing with skill but i sadly lacked the gear compared to some decked out people so i got blamed for fails.... Anyways long story short, cata sucks in every way i can think. Even music and lore wise i don't approve of cata. And wow is headed further down oblivion with the new announcements like the Transmogrification , i cant even spell it, people think its great but this is just another decoy in a long chain of decoys like heirlooms thats slowly killing wow when you think about it. everything is not what it seems , this transmogrification is gonna be a massive blow to wow in the long run , you'll see. to be honest , i can see wows a dead game for NA. well cant wait for Tera and GW2 and eventually Titan. Rift wasn't my thing...what went wrong with cata:1- disappearance of pickup raids. the difficulty of cata end-game raids prevented any pickup raids from hoping for success and therefor forming at all. Im not talking about people doing pickup BT with most people in fire lands gear. I'm talking about popele doing pickup FL in BT gear. You could pickup raid ICC in collesium gear and get to Sind or Blood queen at least. If you tried doing a pickup FL in BT gear for example, you would be utterly destroyed due to increased skill difficulty and frustration.2-Lack of a new continent. Revamping old zones doesnt do the job. we needed a new continent to roam around in. 3- Lack of a new major city. Shattrat > Dalaran > Orgrimmar/Stormwind ? wtf ? I dont know about others but i certainly enjoyed chilling in dalaran with the opposite faction rolling around and such. Org or SW doesnt do the job.4-Wrong things becoming too easy. Blizz got the picture wrong they made raids hard and everything else easy. Should have been the other way around. The fact that people can now get to 85 in a snap with no epicness ( think class specific quests like warlock mount quest and demon quests , instead you can just train it now which is not anywhere as epic ) and the fact that people can now travel to anywhere without much difficulty ( flying mounts in azeroth...) ruined a lot of the game. A lot of the fun of doing a raid or dungeon was getting the group to the entrance to begin with.5- This ones personal but I think deathwing doesnt have enough epicness to be a expansion boss. I just cant put him in the same league as Arthas or Illidan or even Archimonde for that matter. I know he is big in lore but in game.... not so much. Again this is IMO. 6- Creation of too many servers or realms. I deeply believe many servers are very underpopulated as it is. Blizz should seriously start merging servers instead of creating new ones. Its no fun to quest all the way to 85 while only seeing maybe like 10 people outside the major cities the whole time. 7- Pvp imbalance was always an issue but specialy so in Cata. Ok maybe this is IMO too but just saying.8-Lack of basic customizaton like in other MMOs. WoW has never had this but its about time they put this in. Im talking about all those detailed facial and body customizations most MMOs have.9- Heroics in Cata hard and too long compared to wrath.
I totally LMFAO at the comment "here is a screenshot of my earnings on Diablo III auction house on my toon !
One thing You have to understand is that WOW is pushing 7 years old, It was a incredible game when it came out in 2004.The xpacs were great too, but really the game is the same. instead of "conquest points" in litch king now you have "Valor points" Really your just doing the same things to get gear to raid the next new boss. It's fun, but after awhile people get tired of of the same thing over and over again with just new names and higher stat totals. At some point people will move on.Several major guilds died on my server when cata came out because players finally got to kill the Litch King and that was the end of wow for them, and they didnt want to do it again for a new end game boss. For me I wll stick for Deathwing but after that it's over. They could have Jesus for a boss and i'll still be done.
Well this is what happens when you launch an expansion with next to no content and make it like 4 months before adding anything. We're going on a year and the main boss still isn't even in the game! With that being said I think 4.3 is finally doing cata justice. Bring on Deathwing already and I praise whatever guy begged then to allow us to choose our own armor models! That 1 guy is my hero.
I always find it interesting that people treat X charity different from Y charity. Whether or not you actually want to help to people doesn't really matter, you are helping, and the starving children in Africa will not feel better because you want to help them - they will be grateful that you are. Simple as that. No matter if you want to help or are after the tax breaks, you are both helping and getting tax breaks, so it matters little.
And Kantian duty rears its ugly head! It's only a good deed if you manage to shoot yourself in the foot at the same time.
