More specialized gear + a system where the loot that drops is intelligently matched to the composition of your raid. Example: Healadin gear may be in the boss's loot table. But upon defeating said boss the game detects you have no healdins in your raid so the healadin gear is skipped & something else is dropped. This system would not take into account whether or not raid members already have said gear or better.
It would just require you to play that spec to get gear for it. I don't think that's unreasonable. In fact, I wish you couldn't roll for gear not intended for your current spec.
I honestly like the way the system is now. It's frustrating to get shaman gear over and over (seriously bad luck, 4 weeks now) in BWD, but that's all down to the RNG.Knowing there's a chance to get what I want, rather than taking a few steps towards getting what I want with a point system or whatever, is what keeps me playing. Justice and Valor points, to me, seem like they're just a catalyst for improving your gear. It's like dangling a carrot on a bendy stick - eventually you get there, but you have to jump around and learn to swing that carrot into your face before you get to eat it and try bigger carrots.Greg is a very clever man, and although he has had a rocky past with lore vs. game mechanics, I can see he's finally getting the point. Intellect on Plate, I agree, is just weird. Take the Plumed Medicine Helm, for example - this looks like a bunch of twigs and crap from the forest floor, but it's plate? It's such a shame that we have to wear this type of item, even though we know it shouldn't exist. This particular discussion could go on for weeks. I can already see myself getting frustrated at other stat weights....
I also enjoy it the way it is now. Gear should not be to easy to obtainan and in our guild there is plenty of competition when HC tokens drop. Last week we had 7 or 8 players rolling for the heroic caster back on Valiona, now this might not be optional, since if we have the same drop rate every raid it´s gonna take months before everyone has it. Same goes for example with HC incineratus, since it´s BiS for almost all healers and dps casters. A lot of people are still rolling on it even though it was a long time ago we took him down. But as I said before. Gear should not be to easy to obtain and I prefer it the way it is now since that is what keeps me coming back for the same boss week after week.Sometimes I wish that I rolled a hunter, shammy or rogue since there is more or less no competition on that gear but I really do prefer my warlock. Also, there is nothing wrong with gearing up a offspec if nothing drops for ms. Our plate dps have really good tanking gear and the other way around and this is very nice to have in case there is a backup needed. Same goes for our druids and holy palas.
I think this is all fodder for ideas on what they should do in thier next MMO, its too late in this game to make radical changes to stat allocations and gear.
oO how is it too late, they've made radical changes to stat allocation with every xpac and even some content patches.
I miss Vanilla and TBC because Ghostcrawler didn't touch any of those expansion.
