I guess people have forgotten that when WOW started, it was one of the first games that did NOT penalize female characters with reduced stats for being a female. Most of my toons are male toons, but my very first toon was a female because Blizz actually made a game where you could play a female character without being penalized for being a female. I love my female toon and that she can compete with the male toons without penalty. I guess people think that was no achievement in the game world but I still think it's a big deal and am happy to have a female toon.Garretta on Whisperwind
I know this may seem stereotyped but I just like some of my classes to be a certain sex. Most of my casters are female. Most of my melee is male. That's just the way it seems to be.^thisThis
I try to have a mix of male and female characters. My main, "me", is always male, but the alts are fair game. The only exception is the female blood elf paladin I've leveled solely as protection from 10 to 80; I made her because I liked the hilarious irony of a skinny chick tanking for a bunch of big, burly tauren and orcs. XD
Using the Youtube Transcribe Audio function made this episode the best.
1/2 way through wotlk my computer's sound went out. So no vent, no ingame sound... But I still raided just fine as a healer. You just get very aware of your surroundings and what is happening. When I got a new one for cata, I had a hard time playing because i found all the "sound" to be just noise and distracting. Just like a scary movie, turn off the sound and suddenly there is no stress, no anxiety, just calming healing and interrupting rotations...

They have vent on, and finally figured out how to get DBM sounds to play independently of the WoW volume, but as a melee class, they couldn't stand the CLANG CLANG CLANG noises.Likewise, I'm getting really tired of my gun shots, but 1) neither of the bows in current content want to drop after 10+ weeks 2) I like having the boss yells on, so it's a bit of a conflict. My WoW sound is down to 20% at this point, and it still overpowers my incoming vent audio, so I have to turn my computer volume up, which makes everything ELSE ear-blastingly loud... I wish I had a better solution. :(On the subject of hearing-impared raiding, we raided with a deaf raider a little bit in WotLK. There was no issue typing anything he needed to know in chat, but sometimes people would try to say something on vent and have a delayed "...oh right" reaction. Any sort of mistakes he'd make probably could be more attributed to just him than to his impairment. It's indeed possible to do, just takes others a little getting used to, I think.
Weekly maintenance doesn't bother me. It reminds me that there's life outside my house too! (kidding but you get the point)I prefer to raid with my WoW sound turned off. I may listen to the boss emotes my first time encountering them, but afterwardsthe sound is turned off again. I find that all the spell sounds, boss emotes, character speech (that spell is not ready kind of stuff), compiled together and on top of vent chatter as well to be a little much. Honestly, my brain hurts trying to process and individualize each sound bit that I hear. O.oWhile leveling or farming I may turn the sound on; the music in some areas is just too cool to pass up imo.On the subject of guys playing girl toons and vice-versa, personally I'm a female IRL that prefers to play female characters. Call me weird but I like to feel a "connection" so to speak to my toons, and I just feel kind of odd playing male characters. Really, it's kind of fun to me to try and figure out what genderthe people are that I come in contact with day to day in game. To watch females take on a moremasculine attitude while playing male toons, or a guy to take on a more feminine one, or even a guy totally being a guy ona female toon is entertaining! Who says you don't RP, not even just a lilttle? =pAnd...BTW, if you "penalize" a female, doesn't that make her a male? "Penalize", get it? Oh, nevermind...This made me giggleEDIT: "quoted" the penalize comment, it wasnt mine, i didnt want to make it appear so! =)
Huh...? Can you provide links to some games that penalize female characters? I've certainly never played a game that did that, and I've played both male and female characters on RPGs for over 10 years. Some games do have slightly different stats for males and females, just as they have different stats for different races / species (and WoW has that, too), but I've never seen a game where one gender gets globally "reduced stats".I know of games where the female characters had a strength penalty and a dexterity gain... which would be a penalty to a fighter class, but a benefit to a thief class. I would have to guess that garreth007 likes his fighter classes! :) BTW, if you "penalize" a female, doesn't that make her a male?I lolled
