I'm looking forward to this. Going to my local SpaceWorld store. Gonna be standing outside in the cold, about -15 C, for hours, waiting for the doors to open. Did it last time and it was awesome :D
I picked my copy up at Gamestop yesterday at 17:20 norwegian time. Although, an hour or so later, I received a message from Gamestop saying that some mistakes had been made, and that the game wasn't supposed to be released before tuesday. Doesn't really matter to me, though. I've got my copy on my desk at the moment, I've installed the expansion, and upgraded my account to a Cataclysm account! :D Yaaaaaaaay!
gamestop started selling cataclysm yesterday to those who had pre orderd it atleast in finland
I won't be. I'll be sitting comfortably at home with my digital upgrade and start leveling @ 12:01 AM PST :)To those of you going out to celebrate? Have fun!
Give it another ten or so years and gaming stores will go the way of the video store. Both Hollywood Video and Blockbuster are basically gone now. I know for a fact Hollywood no longer exists since I was there when the company went under, and I know that Blockbuster recently closed a massive number of stores (although I have no idea if the company is gone). Physical media is becoming a thing of the past, it's just no longer needed as technology becomes more readily available for getting it in a digital form easier.Blockbuster didn't go under. They managed to get ahead in the 'Rental Box' rhelm of physical media and are doing quite well. They did keep some of their stores but are converting them into 'Rental Box Hubs.' I'm sure they're not doing as well as they once did, but they didn't die at least.
Also, blizzard allowing the game to be downloaded without having to go to a physical retailer wasn't a good idea overall IMO. While very convenient for players who can't get to the store right away, it hurt the retailers who are really one of the vertebrae in the backbone of the gaming industry. I feel like a lot of retailers lost pre-orders because it doesn't make sense to stand out in the freezing cold weather for hours and eat crappy pizza when you can just download it from the comfort of your own home. So now places like Gamestop are forced to offer coupons and other craziness to entice people to come into their store. I may be looking into this a bit too much, but I feel like it was a little short-sighted on blizzards part; especially in this time of economic hurt.Frankly, I don't see why anyone would be concerned about the retailers. This is just one game in thousands. I see no reason, especially with World of Warcraft, to ever have to wait in a line to get a CD/DVD-rom, box, pamphlets etc that I won't even use (all I'd need is the game license code). Not to mention the plus on the environment by saving on some of the material waste from the product.
Not to mention the plus on the environment by saving on some of the material waste from the product. If I cared about the environment as much as to have to say goodbye to all my game cases which make my shelf look awesome, then I wouldn't be in a house I'd be in a mud hut in the forest using dung as isolation. Some people need to take "going green" down a step or two and not think everything we do is bad. It's a box, if you care about the world go stop the people pouring radioactive "stuff" into lakes. :)
I live in Australia, I'm not allowed to pick up my copy until 7pm on the 7th, because that co-insides with the midnight release over there apparantly!Wow dude, that's really gay! I mean, it's not like you're going to be able to play it at midnight if you get it early since cataclysm content isn't available till it's midnight for blizzard's California office.

I'll just get my copy and go home. Why would I want to hang around with a bunch of kids with a low gearscore?lmao, short and to the point.
I swear, people are going to kill themselves "saving the planet," and in the long run, their actions will have made little to no change. And seeing as how the universe WILL in some way or another kill off humanity and our planet, the term "saving" should be changed to "maintenance untill hell breaks loose"
I won't be. I'll be sitting comfortably at home with my digital upgrade and start leveling @ 12:01 AM PST :)No, you'll be sitting at the "Connecting" screen because the login servers will be overloaded at 12:01 AM. Then, in the off chance you do get logged in and connected to your realm, you'll be in that queue because the realm is full. Then, the servers will crash, disconnecting you, making you start the whole process all over again.
I'd be in a mud hut in the forest using dung as isolation.Yes, using dung could be very effective at keeping you isolated.
Am I the only one who will be asleep on Dec 6, and will pick up the game the next day around noon? I dont really see the reason of staying outside my local store until midnight, so I can get the game, and have it sitting on my desk because the servers are down for "X reason"; then finally having the game playable on Dec 7 at 5pm...

The PEOPLE are f*$#%!"
Am I the only one who will be asleep on Dec 6, and will pick up the game the next day around noon?Nah.I got a bell ringer job with the salvation army again so I'll just go to work early on tuesday and pick up my pre-ordered copy from Hastings. And to make sure the cold doesn't kill the CD I'll wrap it in an old scarf and stuff.
I am not really excited about Cataclysm release.Of course, I am sure I'll enjoy rated BGs, the new huge quest lines, real heroics and more. But I have no intention to buy it on release or even a week after.I bough Wotlk 4-5 days after release and my exploration of the new zones was spoiled by "waiting lines" on mobs and army of gankers ( Since releases always have been massive gank fests ).I'll enjoy ( and survive ) the Christmas period and Cataclysm will come after.Oh "real" heroics. *rolls eyes8 Until no one can do them and the same people that #$%^&ed about it being too easy #$%^& about it being too hard.Try doing heroics in blue 187 ilevel stuff before complaining it's too easy in 264 gear. It'll be rough for the people who came in at the end of TBC and the start of WotLK because the latter was an AoE-fest... which requires no thought and no skill. I applaud the developers for the change to dungeons this expansion, and I look forward to the challenge. They'll be "real" in the sense that people will actually have to think, like they had to in previous dungeons. Plus, you'll lose all but maybe 2 pieces of your ilvl-264 gear once you're done in Twilight Highlands, so it won't be much easier with ilvl-264 gear.I as talking about people in 264 gear in wrath dungeons.
In NZ, I pick up my Collectors Edition from the store at 9pm on the 7th.
For those of us in Australia who are wondering about times - it's a simultanoues release so 6:30pm Eastern States, 7pm SA and WA, well, whatever they're doing this year (who knows.... stupid Daylight Savings).I'm getting my CE from JB's and after speaking with Head Office, they suggested it's a Blizzard embargo - makes sense. Not sure about EB but unless they want to get into Blizz's naughty books, I'd say they're the same.
I'll be picking up my game from gamestop. gonna get there an hour early just so i can be closer to the head of the line and pick up my game and leave.i agree with whomever said that about all the immature kids that are going to be running around saying, "dude, my dk will pwn your huntard. im leet deeps. UMADBRO?" i can see it now and dont want to deal with that !@#$.
