They are keeping both sites open because if they shut down Thotbot all the users would migrate over to Wowhead and we don't really need all those people over here, we already have a rogues forum. The fact of the matter is that when I started playing I used thotbot, sure, most of the comments were trolls, but it had alot of useful information on quests (mostly) that helped me level my first toon through Azeroth.
Personally I HATE WoWHead...I mean there is a reason why it's named after a toilet. That's always been bugging me.But still, Wowhead offers almost everything Thottbot does, and more! Now if there's a way to preserve the comments from Thott, I'd be happy. They aren't merely "huntar wepon" as was suggested above; some offer insight about the state of the game in its early days.Plus many Wowhead search filters broke recently (e.g. http://www.wowhead.com/items?filter=cr=118;crs=44990;crv=0), so I'm currently using both sites.

Please stop the Thottbot bashing. Wowhead owes everything it is to Thottbot, and the Thottbot community.Bashing Thottbot because you like Wowhead is like bashing Chuck Berry because you like Jimi Hendrix. It's just...no.Respect.Yeah, but you gotta admit that Thottbot's fetish of putting hidden cameras in the woman's washroom is a little weird, right?
I can't believe this kind of discussion could even exist.
I can believe it because it all got started when a fan of Thottbot entered the thread and started majorly trolling with his nasty comments about Wowhead. Like one of the commenters on this thread already said, it's a reflection of the general behaviour of the Thottbot community. Which is probably one of the reasons the site went downhill over the years while Wowhead's star kept rising.
I can't believe this kind of discussion could even exist.rule #269: If it is on the internet, it is possible. Also, I must say that Wowhead's comment section for almost any topic is far superior to Thottbot's. I guess that this is a good move though, so that the folks that are still using that wretched website will come over to our side.
Can't you just take all the good things that Thottbot does that Wowhead doesn't and then just do them on here?Maybe add an extra tab to items and NPC's called 'Thott Comments' so we can maintain the history, but build anew.I certainly used to use Thott back in the day but found it quite unintuitive and the whole white thing? Not cool. So came here and never went back. And I'm loathe to say that people are tribal about a couple of database websites for an online game. Meh.
Maybe add an extra tab to items and NPC's called 'Thott Comments' so we can maintain the history, but build anew. That would be a bad idea seeing as a majority of thottbot's comments are from 3+ years ago... with Cataclysm 6 days away and the world already shattered 95+% of the comments are gonna be useless.
People still use Thottbot? When I first started playing like five years ago I used Thottbot. I always thought it was horrible and ugly and cumbersome. Then started using Wowhead and haven't ever been back. What exactly does Thottbot have that Wowhead doesn't? You know what, it doesn't matter. Wowhead isn't changing. Thottbot isn't really changing, other than just querying Wowhead's DB. So, not really news worthy at all.
So... Two different sites for the exact same info? Seems pointless. P=QFT
We are Wowhead. Lower your shields and surrender your database. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile.Lol.
Back in the day, I started using Thottbot as my go-to site. It was da bomb. Then, it started getting questionable ads, and the community over there just... let me be kind and say it just turned into something that wasn't for me. The signal to noise ratio in my opinion was abysmal. So, I moved to here. Been here for years. And Wowhead just keeps getting better. I was a little worried when it was bought by Zam, but I've had nothing but good experiences here so far. It really helps my gameplay when I'm looking for quests, or quest givers, or where a recipe drops, etc. And I love the Wowhead looter addon.
All I see as a result of this is Wowhead's DB servers coming under more stress from more queries originating from thottbot.
That's always been bugging me.Heh, from what I remember it was named after a warhead. Considering that the icon is a rocket as well...
Sweet! Now I can see the latest comments on items and quests in only six clicks, instead of one like thottbot. I love searching for the item, then clicking on the item (even if there is only one search result), then clicking on the comments, then clicking "next" through all the ancient comments from vanilla wow. It's so interesting to know that things were worth 10 gold three years ago! Also I like typing captcha, it keeps my mind limber. This is great, great job guys!Comments like that are usually downrated immediately. As for the rest, it's not too hard. Type in what you want. It will constantly give you search results even before you press enter. Click the item. Click comments page. Two clicks for me. And generally you can find whatever info you need without looking at the comments.
I am a poster and user of thottbot.com. Thottbot was a great site, with an original idea behind it; why make systematic information the reason people look up items, quests, etc. in a database? They put the systematic information in there as well, but the real info was from the comments. Even in its early years, thottbot was a different site than others. For instance, thottbot had no security measures on accounts; type a username and password that isn't taken, and you're in. Wowhead, to me, just feels like another boring site, and I to this day cannot use it as a helpful database. I don't know what it is about the way it is set up, but that thing makes it unusable for me.I am grateful to the moderators of this site, for trying to welcome the thottbot community, and for understanding that it's a pretty big deal for us who stayed, but for me, and I am sure I speak for many of my fellow thottboters, wowhead just isn't as useful, no matter how outdated thottbot was.Team thottbot will live on, not only in our minds and our memories, but in a site dedicated to the thottbot veterans, and a guild for the same thing.
Two clicks for me. And generally you can find whatever info you need without looking at the comments.I'm glad it only takes you two clicks because you don't use the comments section, it will help me to know that. Thanks!Drop the snide tone. You can get any and all info you need with two clicks. Bring up the item. /gasp! OMG there's a map right there! And it has all quest mob spawn points marked clearly! And on the side is a box with all the quest info like exp/money gain and items!Seriously, learn to use the site before QQ'ing about how stupid it is, especially if you are using it wrong.
while retaining the Thottbot styling, navigation and communityThottbot's blogs and forum have been closed. Wiping a forum. That's not the way to keep a community.
Wowhead users: Stop being cranky with the Thottbot users.Thottbot users: I know you guys got the rug pulled out from under you, and coming over to a thread full of "Wowhead wins!" comments can't be helping. But don't be jerks about it.Let's take a sample item on Wowhead, or on the new Thottbot if you prefer. In both cases, you:
