Kayin will release I Wanna Be The Guy MMORPG.
I will almost certainly buy both Cataclysm and SW:TOR. Can't say which one(s) will earn my monthly subscription until I've played them.IM(not so)HO, the KOTOR games had a better story than even the Star Wars prequel movies (which is pretty sad if you think about it). Revan and Malak are just as compelling as Thrall and Arthas to me. WoW has become less and less immersive since vanilla, and I think that SW:TOR could grab some of those who like to get right into their characters. However, many of those people have already quit playing WoW, so I don't know if it will make any sort of dent in the player base. Also, all of the new stuff coming with SW:TOR will draw MMO players who are bored with the now-cliche fantasy tank/heal/DPS thing. From Bioware's choose-your-own-adventure style RPG design, to fully voiced quests, to ranged tanks, to companion characters, cover system, player ships and space combat... there will be tons of new stuff to try out.My predictions: SW:TOR will do very well, but it won't kill WoW. If anything, it'll draw more people into the MMO community.Blizzard will kill WoW eventually. Either on purpose to move everyone to a new MMO, or by accident with a decision as ill-advised as RealID was.
Couple of points.1.Any serious mmo put out will be labeled a wow killer. Wether its successful or not is a different story but any semi-serious attempt at an mmo will be labeled a wow killer by someone.2.Wow will not die because too many fans are 100% devoted to wow. A complete wow killer could be made and it still wouldn't sway the loyal players. The only thing that will kill wow is time. Too many people have put in too much time to just let go. A similar thing happened with Everquest 1. There were many devoted players who took a long time to stop and there are those who are still playing. At the most, wow will die slowly over a period of time.3. I think people are underestimating Star Wars:The Old Republic. .. Because of one reason - Bioware. This is not another Galaxies. The people at Bioware have put out nothing but top notch titles for many years now (similar to Blizzard). You can't say that about any other company that has put out an mmo. They have excelled at gameplay and graphics and are one of the best at storytelling. Will it kill wow? no, for reasons I mentioned above. But it will make the biggest mmo mark since wow launched.
Hmm...Bioware has always done a fantastic job with games (So I see), so I see SWTOR as taking a few people. And the WH40K mmo will probably take a few people, just for being different (as it seems to be based around First person shooter style, but as an mmorpg.) And because I like WH40K, so I'm biased.
Would like too see you review games like FlyFF, SW,ToR and Tibia. <3
I think the only thing that can kill WoW would be the ending of the earth itself.GOGOGOGOGO 2012
People seem focused on a game being a "WoW killer", but they forget the first prerequisite any game needs: before being a "WoW killer", a game must be able to be successful on it's own merits. The reason that Warhammer online wasn't a WoW killer had little to do with its ability to draw players off of WoW, and the fact that, especially as it was released, it was simply a bad game.At release, WAR had had its promised content reduced dramatically; it had something like 4 of the planned classes unavailable, 4 of the 6 racial capitols that were supposed to be available were not in-game, and there was a generally buggy quality to everything.Added to that was that there was massive population imbalance in WAR, which might not have been such a problem had they not tried to deal with this by balancing the factions' classes asymmetrically. It was a PvP based game where the PvP wasn't particularly good, and the PvE was unfinished. This is an important element to consider: when a game pushes to be a "WoW killer", it frequently forgets the first element of the equation, that it has to be a good game first. Thus, when we talk about The Old Republic, we have to first ask what they are trying to do? The answer would appear to be, they are trying to make a good game. No evaluation is possible until TOR is released: a huge number of people will try it out, both MMO players and people who loved KOTOR. If they manage to keep these players, they will be a success.
Halo Reach.70 million players online at one time near the time of release? WTF OMG HOLY @#$!
One of the biggest thing WOW has is the ease of use you can hit the ground running and the learning curve is very gradual especially now with the level cap at 80/5. Even the DK has a good bit of time for learning before you have to know what you are doing. I played WAR when it first came out and it had some nice features but it still didn't feel as easy to play as WOW did and I ended up buying a new WOW account because of this.
I'd say Guild Wars 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35BPhT-KI1E) or maybe SW: ToR (Although I don't know too much about that)GW2 is free to play, and their way of getting revenue is expansions and purely aesthetic / account based micro-transactions. (I.e., gender changes). Basically, that means no ''Uber Sword of Awesome, +9999 every stat'' for $15 or anything. Just things which don't affect gameplay. It also looks amazing graphically, has a fantastic art style, is incredibly innovative in terms of MMOs, the combat looks really good, and there's a whole personalised story specifically for YOU. There's plenty of other reasons that makes me think it will be awesome, but those are some of the main ones :DOh yeah, and this...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35BPhT-KI1EThat's a boss you fight at mid-level (40-50). How many times bigger is he than Deathwing? And if that's just a mid-level boss, imagine what the final one will be like...What were you doing at level 40 in WoW? Fighting a couple of Rock Elementals in the Badlands? Killing crocodiles in STV? (P.S. - I'm not a GW fanboy or anything. I haven't even played the original GW. But if GW2 is as good as I think it will be, then I'll definitely be moving from WoW to GW2)
SW:TOR has no fee? Woot!
Ah, I see. The first paragraph was slightly confusing about which game it was referring to.
