Yeah all valid complains in that article. But the only thing I'm likely to care about is not being able to play other regions and if I'm honest thats only going to bother me half a dozen times at max.
There doesn't really seem to be any point in zone restrictions (especially when you consider Steam, Xbox Live, PSN etc are all global services) until you consider the mentions of "buying another game to access that zone's playerbase) and it all begins to make sense.Yes it's massively conspiracy-theorist, but why else would they do the polar opposite to what Steam has been successfully doing for many years?Why re-invent the wheel - only to make it square?

Um, unless they plan on pulling the RealID thing there will be in-game chat. At least thats how Blizzard presented it. As far as the steam and X-Box live, I work for an ISP and you would not believe the number of calls I get about latency primarily from X-Box users. Blizzard has been doing the regions thing for a lot longer then these other services have been around, even in the early days of Battle.net. Just keep in mind it was a beta, so not everything was implemented yet. This last round was mostly for balancing issues and stress testing the servers.
Well I understand the whole thing their doing with cross region locking to some extent where some people form another region would stay in a another gateway and it would cause a nice chunk of lag so I understand why thats being done to some extent. As far major tournaments and LAN going I sadly can't find the link but I read that there will be a professional version distributed to major tournament organizers and people who compete in a multitudes of tournaments (I.E people like whiteRA Idra Husky HD day9 etc.) which will have LAN support.LAN will happen of that I have no doubt blizzard says their not putting in LAN to stop piracy now lets say it gets cracked and people play single player then another crack comes up that gives pirates LAN. If the pirates have LAN whats the point of stopping LAN anymore they could then easily patch in some LAN. it won't be there at release but it'll be thereI want chat channels probably all of us do. Umm you won't?LAN is supported, it's just that it's not a 'LAN mode' anymore. By that I mean that you cannot play Starcraft 2 without an active internet connection. The game client will still use intelligent packet routing, which means that two addresses on the same internal network won't be pushing all the way out to the internet in order to talk to each other. In short, NAT address translation should reroute all of the packets from computer1 on your network to computer2 on your network without having to go all the way out to an external address first.The internet connection is just required to log in, gather map resources, and set up the game (matchmaking). At least, this was the last I heard on the topic.
