I am not that pleased with the changes. The point of removing "passive" talents and "mandatory" talents in Cataclysm is not looking great for shamans.I loved the following changes:
my best guess for resto would be 0/18/55 +3 with options to go for dual wield or reduced mana cost on shocksI agree fully with gondorath on the enh spec, but i'm guessing that the mana from Imp Stormstrike will be needed.I doubt that searing flame would be that useful, at lvl 80 with 3000sp it hits around 700, so at 5 stacks it would do 3500 damage over 15 seconds (~230dps) it may change in cata if they buff its damage but even with 6000sp it would only be just over 300dps. Its worth some speculation but we'll have to wait for more info.the prospect of having dual wield in both resto and ele talents will be interesting, but it will probably end up not being worth it.on a side note: YAY AN AOE!
But that's the point -- with Resto they got it right, you have extra points to play around with for fun that aren't 'mandatory' - unlike Enhance, where I can't see any talents that aren't mandatory.
I, personally, like the new EnhSham tree. The new talents should smooth out the priority a bit.
whit da Ancestral Swiftness thing, from cataclysm, trolls be REEEEELY FLIPPIN' OUT MON!
FINALY! Ele shams may finaly be able to compete with mages and locks with these new changes!and yes, an AoE!
I hope the enhancement mastery talent will make the six points spent in buffing orbs worth it. The orb talent points have always seemed like fluff from a damage per talent point perspective.
Elemental Oath (2 points) - Changed! Moved from Tier 8.Not only moved from T8, but also the description changed.NEW: ...In addition, party and raid members within 100 yards receive a 5% bonus to their critical strike chance.OLD: ...In addition, party and raid members within 100 yards receive a 5% bonus to their spell critical strike chance.
Focused InsightAfter casting any Shock spell, your next heal's mana cost is reduced by 75% of the cost of the Shock spell, and its healing effectiveness is increased by 25%.Shamanistic FocusReduces the mana cost of your Shock spells by 45%.I wonder if applies the mana reduction from when reducing mana cost of the next healing spell.
One of the things i noticed is the talent Foucesed insight in the resto tree seems kinda off at first, But Wind Shear is also counted as a shock and dosnt use the same global cooldown as with all the other shocks or spells making it an ideal shock to use for the talent. The other thing i noticed is that there is a remaning amout fo talents points from the resto tree or the elemental tree, are left are able to be put into the enhacment tree to get Dule Weild. This allows us to apply to Earth living or FlameTouge on both wepons while having the use of a full spec in ither resto or elemental.
thats exactly what i was thinkin. especially since elemental is more about lightning and fire. and enhance uses ele moves as most damage. loving the percentages of wep damage by LL and SS.
Just a different version of what Pezz said:Assume you use Flame Shock to activate Focused insight:No Shamanistic Focus: FS costs 17% base mana. With 5/5 Focused Insight, 75% of the 17% base mana will be refunded, making FS cost (0.25*0.17)=0.0425 or 4.25% base mana. With Shamanistic Focus assuming the 45% reduction is factored in before Focused Insight comes into play:FS costs 17% base mana reduced by 45% from Shamanistic Focus or (0.55*0.17)=0.0935.FS costs 9.35% base mana refunded 75% through Focused Insight or (0.0935*0.25)=0.023375 or 2.3% base mana.TL;DR versionWith 5/5 Focused Insight (and using flame shock to activate), you will gain +25% to your next healing spell at the cost of 1 GCD and either 4.25% or 2.3% base mana depending on whether you have Shamanistic Focus.EDIT: If wind shear is still considered a shock in cataclysm this will be the 'shock' of choice as it costs less mana and consumes no GCD. It will cost 1.1% base mana with Shamanistic focus and 2% base mana without following (0.55*0.08)*0.25=1.1% and (0.08*0.25)=2%. I think this opens up some interesting avenues for resto shamans, especially with tank healing. There is the possibility to create 2 different specs for tank and raid healing.Possible tank healing build: http://cata.wowhead.com/talent#hZVIcoZx0euIeoizRfuioPossible raid healing build: http://cata.wowhead.com/talent#hZVIfo0uZx0euIcoizRfuio:0mLDual wield being favoured for Raid healing due to the ability to have earthliving weapon on both your MH and OH. Throw reforging into the mix and your melee OH might not be so useless after all.
CHRIST! Riptide is a beast now!
I got bored, so I put together something looking at the average time saved with Lava Surge. http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AvjwZoWzKatOdG9mQVk3eUpfNDRtS1RoMkJBcHp6Ync&hl=enThe question will be (of course) whether the time "saved" waiting for LvB cooldowns is better than the additional damage from Searing Flames & DW FT enchants. I'm leaning towards ignoring DW for more Searing Flames points, probably in the 3-4 points range for optimal dot uptime (I can't remember the hit frequency, nor whether it's affected by haste).
