Battle Stations is so much better than FarmVille
Leet.Still not gonna make a Facebook. Also Mal, on a completely different topic, can I make a Q+A thread?
Hahahah. This was great, i'm so glad i'm not the only one that things Zynga is terrible.
I used to post on the Escapist forums before I came here, and I remember them doing this last year, except with video game companies. Which is exactly what they did this year. @Me: a-durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ustupid bro?I actually use to play FarmVille as well. After about 1 week, I grew bored. As for the video, the sarcastic commentary filled me right up. I couldn't eat another bite xD
To answer BFF question. I would not mind if Blizzard would become micro-transation (they already do with pet and mount, yet they still charge a subscription too!).
That's frightening how Zynga was only 5% off from Valve in the vote. Anyways, good video.
Hahaha, "So I guess I'm gonna plant some @#$%... or something?"
Famville sucks balls... its slow, crashes all the time & is well.. stupid... Playfish has much better games on FB, & Fish Wrangler is a close second. I enjoy 2 of Playfish's games RC & HC.. HC is still quite new to the point it quite buggy, but its still helps to pass the time.
Mafia Wars+Ninja Warz>All Facebook games.
BlueXephos already did it, though.
Hilarious video, but you know, for all of his remarks, there's a bit of truth to some of them. It's not that difficult to see that World of Warcraft is a virtual world with its own brand of micro-transactions.Also, I'll say that progress in Farmville and World of Warcraft (as in many real-world scenarios) is usually better measured by the amount of money and time you spend on them. I think the major criticism here, however, was the fact that Farmville's somewhat less than grand graphics and simplicity strikes many as a "cheap" way of making money. While that may be true, there's something to be said for the simplicity of games like Pac-Man and Tetris. So, for better or worse, it shouldn't be surprising that Farmville reached so high in the March Mayhem competition, because it not only tapped into the power of its Facebook's users, it was also addicting, even as a simple game.
Farmville is a whole new game genre - games designed for the non-gamer. I think Malgayne put up something in the general forums about farmville/including farmville, but the jist of it is that Zynga is enticing people who have never played a video game before to start off with a watered down, very slow, very simple game with a somewhat enjoyable reward system. Farmville doesn't pander to the hardcore, moderate, or even light gamer, it's designed to be an easy to understand, pick up and play game that you could play on a 10 year old computer, and it meets these goals well. I will never consider farmville as it is now to be a real game though.
video wouldnt play for me : /
just one simple sentence... Zinga and other companies like it are $%^&!
The reason Zynga came so close was because you could vote twice. Once on facebook and once on the escapist. Therefore if you play Farmville, you have facebook so you have 2 votes. So you divide the actual amount of votes for Zynga by 2 and then you have how many votes it actually got.
No ... they are not a game dev in the natural sense. It pays to consider, however, with the massive user base facebook has, how much money they can and likely do make on just '1' of these games. Said games could make a staggering amount of money considering. Would I want a blizzard one? no... WoW's enough for my time there, thanks. Facebook has enough flashtrash as it is, complete with the superspam(c) engine to lure everyone you know on facebook into the trap.
World of Warcraft is becoming a microtransaction game. With the pet store and now mounts you can purchase. That isn't including the various services like race, faction, name, or server change. Blizzard is getting everything they can out of this game by using the microtransaction model. The odd thing is that generally microtransaction games are free to play. I find it silly when someone is already paying $15 a month and they choose to spend $25-50 or even $75 on the pets and mount. I know a guy on my server who bought the mount and every single pet. That's like $125 or so.Crazy. For digital/nonexistent items.
