You're welcome. And the changes look amazing.Kinda makes me want to get my death knight back.
That Necrotic Strike looks delicious
At pwnwear we were wondering about there being no mention of the anticipated rune strike change, whether Icy Slam will remain as-is and how AOE threat for Blood (which is currently the weakest, by far) will be handled. No answers on these, Blizzard silent so far.
Dark Simulacrum sounds AWESOME, it's gonna make things way more interesting.
So are they fixing the scourge strike?
Indeed there are a lot of tanking questions I want answered now. It's interesting how important AoE treat has become in WotLK, and blood is by far the worst spec for AoE threat. Hopefully Howling Blast (or something like it) will be included in the blood tree, or moved lower in the frost tree (so blood tanks can nab it).
Damn... I want a DK on my arena team now! =) However I expect more tweaking in the frost and blood trees to come after Cata hits. This is quite a few changes going on and I hope that Blizzard will keep this in mind if they make a new hero class.
So, save for Outbreak (almost...), these new skills have no purpose in PVE?GG Blizz.
Nothing much new for Tanking really... Most of the stuff we'd already guessed/knew from Blue Posts. Guess more comes with Beta.
I'ma little disappointed by the changes incoming for death knight. Well, I'm not as disappointed, I suppose, as I am confused.I have an unholy death knight and I love the feeling of wielding a 2 handed axe (mainly because of my orc racial) in unholy presence; I feel kinda like I'm a big crazy rogue, in a sense, because of the quick rune cooldowns and the short GCD provided by unholy presence. So Unholy presence provides shorter GCD and quicker rune regeneration, but frost death knights get haste. (I guess that makes sense in a way, since frost is the dual wield spec) but I just like the imagery of the current unholy spec, and I hope that doesn't change too much. I also like Bone Shield because of the increased damage and (albeit limited) survivability while it's active. I hope, at least, that some sort of bone shield replacement is added.I hope, at least, that unholy presence stays as it is, regardless of what happens with blood and frost presence.Increased melee damage is nice, as is the increased critical damage (especially since my spells and attacks are based on weapon damage, which is already fairly high, since I'm using a 2h weapon), but I certainly hope they don't take away or change the benefits provided by unholy presence and improved unholy presence, because I will be a sad panda if they do. I just love the current feel of an unholy DK and I don't want that to change. At least not too much, anyway.
Q u o t e: Outbreak (level 81): Outbreak infects the target with both Frost Fever and Blood Plague at no rune cost. This ability allows death knights to apply diseases quickly when they are switching targets or when their diseases have been dispelled.Very handy, but not realy anything new or exicting. Simply put boring as a complete new ability unless it does something more then just that. Like increses disease damage by10% for 30seconds or something. Also I'm a bit concerned about what will happen to Icy Touch and Plague Strike, in my current Unholy rotation I would never use those if this had no cooldown (More Scourge Strikes instead) and if it has a cooldown, it would not be viable for those situations where you quickly move from pack to pack. Q u o t e: Necrotic Strike (level 83): Necrotic Strike is a new attack that deals weapon damage and applies a debuff that absorbs an amount of healing based on the damage done. For context, imagine that the death knight can choose between doing 8,000 damage outright with a certain ability, or dealing 6,000 damage and absorbing 4,000 points in incoming heals with Necrotic Strike -- the burst is smaller, but a larger overall amount of healing would be required to bring the target back to full health.Nice ability, but seems to be more PvP focused. I would like for this to have a bit more PvE viability. Also, it would feel more at home with the Death Knight theme, if it was a disease, that could be spread around with pestilence. Blood is currently lacking any disease and I feel that with a bit more PvE tweaking, this cool turn out to be a great ability. Q u o t e: Dark Simulacrum (level 85): The death knight strikes a target, applying a debuff that allows the death knight to copy the opponent's next spell cast and unleash it. Unlike Spell Reflection, Dark Simulacrum does not cancel the incoming spell. In general, if you can't reflect an ability, you won't be able to copy it either. This ability has potential, if I could copy buffs and heals, this could turn out very usefull and fun. My fear with this ability is that it will be severly limited in end game PvE, and that I would not be allowed to use it on most abilities either because they are too powerfull or because they are not spells. I would like to see this beeing able to copy any ability (not only spells) and also beeing able to copy raid boss abilites with reduced effect to prevent "overpowered damage/healing".I'm afraid that if these abilities where to be implemented as stated, I'd have nothing new to do in 95% of all fights I would be in with my Death Knight (Me being all about the PvE) and I'd be terribly disappointed and bored if I had to push the exact same buttons in the next expansion.I understand the worry about not having free global cooldowns but this (and I can only speak for Unholy, and I'v never played frost DPS) is something easily mended by making Unholy Presence more attractive, and/or, allowing haste or some similar stat, to affect our global cooldown time.To sum up my views: Too little PvE usability for all 3 new abilities.
The change with the greatest potential is where they say they are going to "energy-ize" (energize? lol.) the rune cooldowns and about how that may shift around rotations and general playstyle. That said, I do agree that those abilities don't seem that great for PVE. Hopefully, these get built upon over time. Dark Simulacrum has the potential to be very, very sexy; I don't see how this talent would be nerfed for PVE given that you actually have to take the hit to dish it back out, unlike AMS.
I play a Blood DPS and I love those massive crits, but why switch it into tanking? Tanking is boring in my opinion. Why play a Death Knight if I'm going to have to DW or keep doing dumb weak attacks that don't surprise me at all. I could just make my rogue my main. And is Blizz trying to make things harder for DKs or something? Moves are doing weaker damage and all that non-sense. I'm not liking the changes and if these changes are going to stay the way they are then this class will be the most enjoyable in PvP. If they're gonna be "Death" Knights then they better be deadly rather than some little girl skipping in the street with a basket of candies in her hands. I think frost should be the tanking spec and get all those tanking talents, because no one ever plays them as dps, or at least doesn't enjoy it. Instead of Outbreak why don't you make some extra disease for Blood and Unholy. One for each spec. That would be cool. I'm not sure if its that good but all i know is blood should never be tanking. There are no PVE moves that will benefit in our dps. Instead you do the opposite and make spells weaker. Outbreak is seriously a joke. Just like Raise Ally. It doesn't really do anything. Whatever you do replace this move with a much better PVE move. DKs are lacking that. Necrotic Strike is good for pvp. But will it be like a Blood's Death Strike or Heart Strike. Or will it be stronger? If weaker then DKs might as well hold flowers in their hands and sing as they soothingly whack their enemies to death. "Oh know! That DK has a rose!<The New Legendary for Cataclysm> The thorns might hurt my skin!I think I might bleed!" says the enemy. You can keep this one, though. I was exaggerating too much. Dark Simulacrum is a really interesting move. But I'm not sure how to use it. I really like this one. I think everyone does. You must keep this one, too.
hmmmm looks like blood and frost are getting a boost but unholy losses its bone shield? sigh* unholy was the reason i got a dk but sense it got majorly nerfed i have not been on em very much at all and it looks like he gets a lil more canned in CAT i hope they buff up unholy spells again like making unholy blight an attack you can use instead of making it a chance debuff because i loved how it was almost impossible for my toon to die cuz of all the healing from death strike and fun spells and buffs like anti magic zone and on a pale horse hoping this wont be the only changes to the class. but the new spells like out break and dark simulacrum look like they will make unholy worth rolling again UNHOLY forever!
Too little PVE utility from these things? I'm just not seeing that. Outbreak (level 81): will allow us to ramp up much faster than before.Necrotic Strike (level 83): albeit situational, still good. For instance, Saurfang heals himself. Negating that self healing would have a greater net effect than the outright damage.Dark Simulacrum (level 85): Enought said! The tooltip they gave does not mention that the spell has to hit you. Thanks to addons like DBM, you will be able to predict when some BIG hard hitting spells will go out, and then turn those back on raid bosses. I mean, lets face it. Raid bosses tend to hit harder than the players going up against them. Wouldnt it be nice to throw those spells back at em?
Dark Simulacrum (level 85): Enought said! Unlike Spell Reflection, Dark Simulacrum does not cancel the incoming spell. The effect doesn't proc until the spell has been cast and doesn't negate the spell either, so unless you mitigate the damage somehow then you're going to be smacked in the face. Whether you will be able to pop AMS without it in turn nerfing the DS-reflect is an unanswered question for the time being. My guess is that Blizzard will reflect the damage potential on only what you are hit for so as to preserve game balance (and obviously to further seperate the homogenization between Warriors, which with the current rung of changes is getting worse).

Unlike Spell Reflection, Dark Simulacrum does not cancel the incoming spell. In general, if you can't reflect an ability, you won't be able to copy it either.from what i get from this you don't need to take the hit to be able to use the ability. the last line as i interpret it is that if a warrior can't spell reflect the ability. something that blizzard mandated a non-reflectable ability then this ability won't work either. if you can't reflect an ability, you won't be able to copy it either.but no where in the tool tip does it say you have to absorb or take the dmg from the spell. it just copies the next spell cast by your target and uses it against them.I like outbreak of all the new abilities. nice way to get your diseases on there and start spamming real dmg skills or threat skills.
In the context of DPSing w/o aggro on the mob in question, then you wouldn't necessarily be taking the hit, no.However, the tooltip clearly states that DS procs on the next applicable spell after it's cast.Everyone's pretending like the spell doesn't exist anymore.

However, pve wise this sounds interesting. some mobs cast some interesting spells and i know that in naxx a alot of casted spells from bosses were reflectable. as a dps or a tank i think this ability has alot of potential. Also any thoughts on necrotic strike like what the resource used may be and whether or not the amount absorbed will be affected by talents or str? i'm thinking it'll be in the unholy tree but because of it's purpose it seems like an ability that's supposed to be used by all trees so i dunno. guess we'll have to wait and see.
I may have missed this somewhere along the way, but has any one mentioned if there is a mandatory respec in the works or a free respec for the DKs under these new changes?
