The thought process behind this:"Lets make a really boring raid easy." From this ToC was born."Lets drag our feet to release ICC so everyone and their mother can get geared in ToC""To make up for the easiness in ToC, lets make raids lock you out after so many attempts.""O wait, we need some filler bosses too so that way people can actually get gear"*release the LK, downed on the first day in the EU*"Clearly ICC is too easy, they should have downed the LK within the hour, we need to nerf the lockout period"-.-
I actually really appreciate this. A lot of people, even in the high-end guilds, think that the limited attempts was pretty dumb anyways.Prevented experimentation and so on with the encounters (you rushed through them rather than enjoyed them).
i hate it when your on one of those end bosses, last attempt then... wipe on 10k health and cant do it again, when you know you can!.
Blizzard have stated Repeatedly, over and over and over again that Normal modes will eventually be doable by (to quote Monty Python) "Every man and his auntie." or at least everyone who can get a moderately consistant group of so-so players. For all those who say "THIS IS OUTRAGIOUS, IM CANCELING MY SUBSCRIP, OMFG EZ MODE BLIZZ" I Say: Link me your heroic 25 man achivement before Cata. Heroic mode is somthing out of Friday the 13th. its a nightmare. No stacking litch king serverwide 5% buff on heroic (Where is that by the way) and bosses that will make your mother weep. People still arent getting it, the way it works now is that 50% of all level 80s will pretty much have oppitunitys to see every boss, but only 5% or less will see the withering hights of heroic mode. I embrace it.
Limited attempts in Normal Mode was borderline Fake Difficulty. Limited attempts certainly have their place, but I don't think it should have ever been a part of Normal Mode.
You have to also consider that it is somewhat hard to waste all 20 (possibly more soon) attempts. If you average something like 4 minutes per fight, 3 minutes per run/flight back, 2 minutes for buffing, that's and entire raid night spent purely on boss wiping. Assuming you don't do trash, don't kill any bosses (somehow), don't have to bother with trash respawns, people going AFK, raiders leaving, and all that annoying stuff. If you raid 3 nights a week, 3-4 hours a night, 20 attempts are going to be about as many as you can do per week (this week we spent total of 4 attempts on Putricide and Blood-Queen, and could use only 10 of the remaining on Sindragosa. Our raid time was over after the 10th attempt). Granted, as you get more experienced with the fights, you need to spend less time explaining them and working on strategies, but you will also wipe less frequently. So that gives you the time to wipe 20 times... but you no longer need that many attempts.Yes, I think the removal from Normal difficulty is a reasonable one. I am yet to see Heroic, so I can't comment there.
The limited-attempts mechanic has proven something of a misfire if comments on other sites are anything to go by. Apparently standard procedure for a guild aspiring to a Server First is to bring up a parallel set of alts (or two!), then burn all their attempts learning the fight before going in with the mains for the one-shot.
I don't like this.Any monkey can do a boss after 50 attempts or so. You don't even need to train him, just pull him straight out of the wild. To make a boss actually hard, you need to make it so guilds cant just grind him for 5 hours a night 4 nights a week. Maybe the amount of attempts should have been raised... but not removed.
