I'm yet to see anyone actually come out with a solid reason why this is a bad idea.1. "It'll ruin server population ratios" - Blizzard have said they'll control this. If you didn't see that coming, you're an idiot.2. "It's the game being dumbed down again 4 DA CASULS!1" - Sorry, how? If my Naxx10 geared Paladin goes from human to blood elf, he's still Naxx10 geared and still at the exact same stage in the game.3. "You're supposed to make a choice when you create your character!" - Ah, I suppose you "left" when you could change your name, appearence, gender etc. as well then. Why are you here? You left!4. "Lorelol!" - Not really. If Varian was welcoming orcs into Stormwind with open arms then yes, big lorelol. This is essentially exchanging your alliance character for a similarly advanced hordie - nothing more. Can those who insist on crying about this please explain their problems with the idea? It's depressing how many people are just saying it's terrible and then nothing else. It really seems like people resisting change for the hell of it.

It really seems like people resisting change for the hell of it.They cant explain, because there are no good explanations. My favourite argument to hate is the realm imbalance one.Various realms have had problems with faction imbalance since the get go, and works both ways.. too much Alliance, or too much Horde.Battlegroups were introduced to introduce more players of both factions to BGs, to help prevent some of this imbalancing.Free realm transfers were also introduce to allow realms heavy with one faction to move to another realm that was a bit light on with its representation. This also helped with population problems. At one point, Blizzard threatened to split certain realms up to solve the population and imbalance problem. Malygos was on this list (being quite Alliance heavy), however, Blizzard never went ahead with it.Given that the service is there to allow people to switch factions so they can play with their friends, *tongue in cheek* I'm struggling to see how a few casuals transferring to the other side is going to hurt things. (yep, my next favourite argument to hate is the casuals vs hardcore). Usually if the hardcores are going to transfer, they just jump realms, and in much the same way as Blizzard control transfers to ensure faction balance and population remains status quo, they will probably put similar controls in place to prevent an imbalanced realm from getting worse.Have a little faith.
I'm kind of against faction changes as I feel it will might cause some realms to be severely imbalanced. Although I would like to see some race changes which might be a possibility now. Nothing against blood elves but I would really like to see my mage be a troll. :)
How boring... The implementation of this could have been much more interesting. It's just a shame that when Blizzard has the opportunity to improve the game options that are already in place, be it for character customization or switching one's realm/faction, they would rather sell the function at an extra cost rather than make the game better.Oh well. Looks like another patch I won't be reactivating my account for.
I started out with a warrior that I leveled to 60, then 70 in TBC. Got into the TBC raids with Kara, then Mag, then Gruul, and my guild basically fell apart after that. The whole experience soured me on the game, so I quit until something like November or December of last year. I'm on a new server, Horde side, with some RL friends of mine, now, and having a great time. I'd love to dust off the old warrior, but it's really not much fun since I don't know anyone on the old server anymore. In my specific case, I really don't see how taking an Alliance character that I wasn't playing anyway is going to hurt that realm. Even bringing him over to the new server as a Horde player where I have two 80's now, I don't see that as a balance issue. I can only play one character at a time. From what I've heard, there are quite a few people with old characters like that. Lore-wise, I've been through both sides and seen it all. It's not that huge of a deal.I get the feeling that a lot of people are thinking that just because it's there, it means they somehow have to use it. In my eyes, it's going to be the same as a realm transfer. You can make the same arguments about balance, population, etc. I think the thing to remember is that since it's going to be a pay service, that it will weed out a lot of the people that would just do it on a whim, and make people give it some thought before making the switch.Sorry for the lengthy post.
My server will become pure crap. We are like 20% hordes, and i foresee 80% of those hordes switching sides. (EU Bronzebeard FYI)edit: typo
I think my bloodelf warlock is going to be a human warlock soon. I just hope that they allow server transfers with the faction changes.
I'd have to agree with the poster above, asking for explanations for the outpouring of hatred. I personally won't use it, but why deny people who will just because it's new and scarey? They've already stated they will be careful about pop. balance, and even if they aren't there's already tools in place for that situation. It's also silly to assume so many people will switch, when the option to pay and leave for a server with a tilt in the direction you want already exsists. I'd be highly surprised if they gave out free server transfers though, when they can just charge you twice.

(EU Bronzebeard FYI)edit: typoI swear to god, people are purposefully not reading the last question from the Q&A.Q. How will this affect the balance of Horde and Alliance on the realms?A.. We are taking great care in how we implement this new service in order to maintain balance between the factions on the realms but do not have any further details to share.Next post: "OH HAI THIS WIL RUIN MAI SERVER POP SCREW U BLIZZ"
Why dont they just throw in class changes to while there at it? I mean come on....I see some up side to this. But idk il have to see
If this is implemented ill burn my eyes with acid and pop them out with forks.
Im not too big of a fan on this change but If they are going to allow faction changes why not race changes ? IE . Im alliance i switch to horde and choose my race, but if I switch back to alliance i can't choose my race againI don't know if someone already said this but they are having it like that I think because they don't want say a BE Mage going to Alliance and then going back to Horde to have a Troll Mage or something like that.
if one is allowed to switch to another faction where he gets to pick his char from scratch again but with all the gear and xp he's gained on the other factionwhy aren't the ppl that stay in a faction given the same choice?
Thought I'd change the faction of my rogue that is on a pvp realm. The rub is, what will happen to my DK and my alt, who are alliance, when one char on the realm becomes horde?Since you can't have both horde and alliance on the same pvp realm, will there be a free char transfer perhaps?if one is allowed to switch to another faction where he gets to pick his char from scratch again but with all the gear and xp he's gained on the other factionwhy aren't the ppl that stay in a faction given the same choice? They are, you can change sex, face, hair, skin etc. Just check wow website.

A lot of people are saying this is stupid, is it really a bad idea or is it just the usual wow community resistance to any positive change? This could also be used to help the realms where one faction outnumbers the other immensely, and help people who want to play with friends of the opposite faction. I really don't see how me getting to play with some real life friends i didn't have access to play with before is hurting your game playJust because a small sect of people want this game to be stupidly time consuming as it was in vanilla doesn't mean they should take this game back to the stone ages. It's not really stupid and players must want it if they are implementing it.My thought is that it is a way of killing the horde vs alliance rivalry. Not that the factions lines won't exist, but in thinking of our toons as malleable like this, faction is exceeding less of an issue to the player. While I don't think of it as a hallmark of the end of the WoW, I DO think it shows that WoW is in a mature phase of game development and has a matured player base.
IMO, Great idea! Should have been here since BC.I don't plan to use the feature yet but it would have saved me a world of hurt 6 months ago when I switched sides.Server faction population balance? Is there really such a thing? I'm on Alleria and our Battlegroup (Alliance-side) stinks big time. Too many Allies for the Horde so every BGs is crammed with clueless players that don't know how to PvP.If it happened before the new feature was even on the horizon, I don't see what the feature itself will break. This move, to me, is all about avoiding the 0-60/70/80 grind to veteran players. If they plan to get another expansion or two, at least people won't have to level up 80+ levels to try the other side. That increase the game longevity somewhat.I think that's what Blizz is after.Barns
This will be great. I have a long lost friend I ran into. Turns out he plays but is a ally. Now we can run together. I don't see the problem. Ninjas happen anyway.Populations change constantlyTime of day has more to do with winning WG than anything I'd love to see the other half of the content without rerolling.
Haha, I was gonna say...they really didn't answer much. I guess I was curious about how they were gonna handle changing races and whether you could change to a different race in your faction.
Does this mean a player can have For the Alliance AND For the Horde? Also, if a player is a Alliance Palidan and only has classic. Can he transfer it over to horde?
