I'm sure someone has said this, but the best way for this to go down would be a betrayal mechanism like in Everquest. In EQ(2), there were separate "mirror" classes for good and evil. Betrayal is a long and annoying task, which it should be for such a massive change. In WoW, there are hidden reputation meters titled "Horde" and "Alliance," perhaps suggesting that Blizzard has been planning on something along the lines of betrayal. Also, it's obviously lore-friendly because you see races of all kinds on each side.In short, yes, it will work, but race changes are NOT what is going to happen.
I'm not sure if any has asked this yet but I wonder if u get to keep your old race mount? Like BE changed into NE but u still have your chicken.
And speaking of this being lore friendly, a change like this could lead to some cool and radical changes. That whiny Alliance king can use this as an excuse to assault the Horde because they are full of traitors and could give away secrets. Thrall probably wouldn't mind Alliance people joining because it could better the Horde but people leaving would weaken it.I think we could see this lead to a new war between the Horde and Alliance. Maybe the betrayals could even be explained by an undermining caused by an Old God to wreak havoc on the two factions.
On the one hand, I'm not crazy about these changes. At all. On the other, this whole ability to switch factions leads me to wonder if someday we might see races that start out neutral (similar to, though not necessarily, goblins) that choose which faction to pledge their loyalty to when created./conspiracy theory

They do pretty much all of our technology for just about everything. They just have too many nuetral goblin towns for them to make them Horde. Which is a shame. I want a goblin rogue thats an engineer >.<To the thread, I'm not too excited about this change. Its game-breaking, yeah, but will it really be worth it? I mean c'mon. Hopefully I don't lose any friends to this. Although I can see it being really fun to load up a level 1 horde guy with all heirloom items and mula, then switch to Alliance. Probably only way I'll ever level an Alliance past 20 >.<
This should help balance server PVP.
I think Malgayne forgot to change his desk calendar. It's not April 1st anymore Mal, it's June 30th. I know the Dilbert cartoon is funny, but it's time to tear him off.
I have alliance and horde toons. xD. I would love to be able to play some of my earliest oons on opposite faction. xD (Original horde here)
I would have preferred a quest based faction change that didn't change race ... Dump all old faction groups to Hated, and make all of the new faction groups either neutral or hostile ( hostile -> orcs in SW ... heh. ).Once you switch, you are stuck, of course. This race change bit doesn't bother me ... it's just an improvement over the name/face change thing. Blizz just wants a cut of toon selling, I guess. As long as PvP status is maintained, and Alliance/Horde ratios aren't seriously messed with, I can live with it.
hmmm... double amount of quests? or are some finished?
Sweet! Maybe I can finally get a real character on Alliance... I hated all Ally 10-20 zones, so now I can avoid that entirely!I don't see why people are QQ'ing so much about this. How does it ruin the game? It's going to be a paid thing... People aren't going to do it lightly. This will be interesting for hardcore raiders/ RP'ers, though. Switch faction to get into a really good guild, or have your human actually turn into an undead!
I seems, the Lore just @#$%ed up. Sorry for the word, but this is over. But it meens Alliance-sided Blood elf? Or Horde Draenei?
Ok, let's think this through. Im' pretty sure they won't implement a functionality to "betray" your faction and join the opposing one. So it's got to be a "behind-the-scenes" conversion, much like any payed service they offer. What will stay:
sounds liek a good idea tbh, lets say you discover a friend plays wow, but is alliance? switch over and play with them!very intereseted to see how this turns out, btu tbh i think you will ba changing rcaer, i think alliance UD would be way too confusing...
ninja looters and scammers rejoice! another way to disguise your character... for a fee.
Seems like a fine idea to me. I don't really mind it. I won't do it, but people really shouldn't freak out about it x) Also, it's definitely not gonna be a betrayal system. Alliance Tauren? I don't think so.We'll just have to see, I suppose.

Since all change features offered are built by Blizzard to not interfere with game play, and game balance, I would bet that faction changing will come with a prize in-game, too. While you can convert one race to another race with the same class, converting quests, achievements, items, factions, etc. does seem rather impossible.
