Wowhead Exclusive: Level 80 (85?) Elite Tauren Chieftain NEW SONG, "Warriors of Azeroth"
posted

Malgayne
So since there were a ton of other media outlets present at the Cataclysm Launch Event, I was convinced that someone else would have a fancy professional video of this up long before I had the opportunity to do it myself, but It's 5:30 and I still don't see any other videos. So, here it is!
The Artist Formerly Known As Level 80 Elite Tauren Chieftain has written a new song!
This one is dedicated to all the
Warrior
s out there—it's entitled
Warriors of Azeroth!
This is a
Wowhead Exclusive
—this song is not available
anywhere else on the Internet!
Remember, the iPhone takes 720p video, so be sure to watch it in High Quality!

Guild Achievements No Longer Reward Guild XP
posted
2010/12/07 at 4:42 PM
by
Malgayne
Nethaera posted on the official forums a little while ago to let us know that
guild achievements no longer reward guild experience.
This is a pretty significant nerf, since guild experience is capped on a daily basis—and up until recently, guild achievements were able to reward experience bonuses
above and beyond
the daily cap.
It looks like the result of this was that guilds were leveling a lot faster than Blizzard intended. See the the full post after the break.

Cataclysm Launch Event Gallery

So I'm home from the Cataclysm Launch Event!
it was a great time last night, lots of people there. One person said there were over 9000—but I realized later that may have been a joke. I even saw a lot of people who I had seen two years ago at the Wrath release event—I even ran into John Finch, the guy who was first in line last year. He said he'd arrived 48 hours before, and was still only 20th in line.
Once again, I want to thank Blizzard for NOT being the kind of company who tries to create buzz by not having enough copies of the game at launch. I wasn't there until about 7pm, and I still got a Collector's Edition. :)
This whole process has been kind of nostalgic for me, because for those of you who've been with us for a while, you may know that our discussion and picture gallery of the original Wrath launch event two years ago was actually our very
first
set
of blog posts. So with that in mind, I leave you now as I left you then, with the most important part of the whole process:

by
Malgayne
Cataclysm is tomorrow (or today really), and one of the (many) things that will become available when the clock strikes midnight is the new professions.
Not only will everyone have access to the new profession,
Archaeology
, they'll also be able to level the existing professions up to 525 skill—for a rank of
Illustrious Grand Master!
We have (of course) written up a preview of all the professions, archaeology included, below. Like many of these posts, this content has been posted in our
Cataclysm Guide
for a while now, but this seemed like a good time to make sure you guys had quick and easy access to all the info. So check it after the break!

Malgayne
Blizzard has officially launched the new Battle.net website, with a special bonus feature that we haven't been able to talk about until now:
Wowhead links!
You can now find links to Wowhead all over the Armory database! Item pages, character pages, search listings, even the talent calculator—all have convenient links to your favorite WoW database.
We're really honored to be chosen to be part of this new Blizzard venture—and we're looking forward to continued cooperation with Blizzard in the future. :)
Of course, that's not the
only
awesome thing in the new
Battle.net
(just the most important)—there's a ton of other awesome stuff, including
raid progression and recommendations
on the Armory,
beginners guides
,
tooltips in the forums
, and lots more!
The full announcement is after the break, with all the details!

New Feature Preview: Forum Signatures

Wowhead is beta-testing a new feature:
Character-based forum signatures!
Right now,
anyone with a premium account can try them out
, and you can use them here on Wowhead or on any other forum that accepts image embeds. Here's how you get set up:
Creating a signature
Claim a character. To do this, look up your character on the
Profiler
. Hit the button, and select
Claim Character
.
Once the character is claimed, click the button and select
Signature
.
Once you're there, this will take you to the
signature page!
Here you can edit all sorts of things—what statistics your signature shows, background colors, text colors, and so forth. You can adjust the color of the background from a simple gradient to any of a number of "Wowhead backgrounds" (which we borrowed from the in-game cloak textures). You can even upload your own!
Once you have your signature finished, click
Submit
and your signature will be saved to your user page, under the
Signatures
tab. You can see

Request for Feedback: Possible New CAPTCHA System
posted

by
Malgayne
Wowhead uses a CAPTCHA system to prevent spam comments or forum posts from bots. We switched a little while ago to a system called
reCAPTCHA
, which were excited about since it lets you help with a book digitizing project while you fill out CAPTCHAs. Unfortunately, reCAPTCHA has caused a few issues as many of you know—providing words to type that weren't legible, or which used non ASCII symbols. For example, we got this feedback less than an hour ago:
http://i53.tinypic.com/24qu5ip.jpg
my Captcha, which I interpreted as "frentlea cf" Surprisingly it actually accepted "frentlea cf" as a correct response and posted my message.
But seriously, what is that? cftvth? cfwth? cfwtb? cnvtb? Well, cf it is then.
So we've been looking at alternatives!

I was writing up individual posts for these, but I figured it'd be best to combine them so I didn't spam your RSS Feeds. So!
More news—a post from Ghostcrawler about tanking changes, a major change to the way Battlegrounds are divided, and a cool interview with J. Allen Brack.

More Hotfixes, or "Why Gamon Will Wreck You"
posted
2010/11/30 at 10:38 PM
by
Malgayne
There's a new round of hotfixes going up on live servers, and this batch includes yet another round of buffs to Gamon!
November 30
Gamon is now immune to all forms of crowd control, uses the abilities Charge and Battle Shout, and wrecks adversaries with his new two-handed axe.
Players should no longer be prevented from entering a Battleground for no reason.
Many loot tables for NPCs have been adjusted to provide the correct items and scaling.
The Alchemy bonus from Flask of Stoneskin now grants 120 stamina, up from 80 stamina, to keep it in-line with similar bonuses from other professions.
Many creatures in Uldaman were not awarding reputation upon death. This has been corrected.
Wrathbone Reavers, Wrathbone Sorcerers, and Fallen Warriors no longer grant reputation in Pit of Saron.
Players can again start the Thrall escape event in Caverns of Time: Old Hillsbrad regardless of quest status.
The temporary guardian Basalt Rockling no longer drops from Balboa in Azshara.
Magma-Lord Kolob in Burning Steppes no longer awards dungeon tabard reputation.
