This user feedback helps us get more gaming oriented clients and makes the general ad experience more positive for our users.
This time marketing just wants to ask a simple question: do you use Steam or other digital distribution services? If so, which ones and why?

Patch 5.3 Will Introduce an In-Game Browser
2013/04/09 at 5:12 PM
We saw some LUA strings today that indicated an in-game browser was coming our way and sure enough it was just announced! So far the browser seems to be focused on World of Warcraft support tickets and will allow players to search for answers to their in-game problems without having to leave the comfort of Azeroth!
It's currently up on the latest PTR build--you can clear cache, delete cookies, go to home/next/previous page, and refresh. There is no address bar currently.
We’re adding a feature-limited web browser to World of Warcraft that will replace the in-game support system with a direct portal to the Battle.net Support site. Our aim is to give players in-game easy access to the site’s robust knowledge base and support contact system.
We’ve gone to great lengths to improve our website support systems and we want to offer access to all of its robust features in-game. The new browser will make it it easier to find information to help you resolve issues you’re experiencing or contact our representatives if you need a little extra help.
We will test this new feature in the 5.3 public test realm (PTR), and we’d like your assistance. Adding a web browser in-game is a new venture for us, and we need you to test it by searching through the support knowledge base and pages to make sure that it holds up in various hardware and network situations. It’s important to note that while we will be testing the functionality of this feature within the PTR, we are unable to process support ticket submissions.
To help test and provide feedback, copy your character and download the PTR client.
We’d appreciate your feedback and testing reports to be put into the below forum thread so we can collect and respond to any errors or issues you’re seeing.

5.3 PTR Preview: Earth Day, Doritos Locos Sponsorship, Auras, and More!
2013/04/01 at 11:49 AM
There are some major changes coming to World of Warcraft from the latest PTR patch. There's some really exciting stuff, including a new holiday and auras that will allow you to cosmetically alter your character to varying degrees. Both Perculia and I have been hard at work on the PTR getting screenshots of these changes and uncovering the latest details.
Oh, and one more thing:
If you're seeing broken item links, we've unfortunately had to remove these fake items for real datapushes. Click on the images below to view what the original article looked like:
If you've played
, you may remember how the collector's edition had special wings for your character. The
Heart of the Swarm collector's edition
also had a special aura as well.
Well, it seems like auras are coming to World of Warcraft. They will be tied to clearing old raids, most likely as incentive to clear the raids and experience older content for newer players. The item shows up in your mailbox if you unlock the achievement and remains in your inventory, allowing you to click on it to cosmetically alter your character! We started running some raids and uncovered the following auras tied to the following achievements:
The Black Temple
. Even if you have a
Path of Illidan
, you'll want this for the additional special effects like glowy eyes.
The Battle for Mount Hyjal
. Similar to
, but doesn't cost along with tons of dailies.
Based on data, it looks like every legacy raid will have one, with each aura thematic to the zone.
has a fiery aura,
Temple of Ahn'Qiraj
has a sandstorm aura, and so on. This is totally exciting!
It's been a while since a new holiday has come to Azeroth, but it looks like we'll finally be seeing one. Much like how
was revamped and thus delayed on live years ago, it looks like we have an in-game version of Earth Week that will be lagging behind the real world version which happens mid-April (unless 5.3 is magically that close to being done!).
The world has been polluted and it's up to you to save it. The Crown Chemical Co. was not environmentally friendly when they were discarding the
Boxes of Chocolates
Love is in the Air
--they threw them everywhere and left broken glass all over every zone! Meanwhile, the goblins have been up to their usual polluting antics and there's been an oil spill off the coast of Azshara!
Luckily Mistress Vi and her band of druids are here to clean up first and ask questions later. They leave you in charge of cleaning up the mess as randomized dailies, which give you a bag of supplies which contains gold and has a chance to contain a rare item such as the new battle pet
, an adorable treant! Vi and her companions are holed up in every major city hub and it's likely there will be tons of festivities having to do with cleaning up the area; they were classified as vendor NPCs but had no goods to buy yet. So far we have found dailies where you pick up
in various level-appropriate zones, compact them into
, and turn them into Vi.
We've also datamined
Headpiece of Seven Sacred Seals
--while we don't know the source yet, perhaps it's a vendor reward that costs a lot of
or is a guaranteed drop from
that one lucky player can win per kill.
Additionally, it seems the Crown Chemical Co.'s trash is getting a mind of its own. A sentient being,
, spawns in the areas most polluted every hour. He requires a group of 25 players to kill and has
Summon Vol'jin and Baine
so far as abilities--it also looks like it will
its prey. While right now he doesn't drop anything, it looks like he will drop five rings every time:
Recently on the PTR, we datamined
Griftah's Authentic Troll Shoes
which appears to be the first piece of Cosmetic Armor--a new armor category seen on the Auction House in 5.2. Looks like there's a lot more Cosmetic Armor coming besides those shoes on the PTR now.
Chests in each zone appear to have a very low chance to drop zone-specific cosmetic armor, that resembles models of popular transmog gear--some which were even removed from the game! Here's some examples of what we've opened over the weekend:
: Lookalike Defias armor and
Red Defias Mask
Large Battered Chest
, for example.
: Removed item sets from pre-MoP Scholomance, such as
and Tempest Keep instances: Recolored Tier 5.
We'll be updating our
and Same Model As tabs with these items very soon.
Hearthstone in WoW
Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft
was announced at PAX East, players have been speculating how Hearthstone could get an in-game reference in WoW.
What we found over the weekend is an exciting start--NPCs in Azeroth like Hearthstone so much, they've taken to playing it in their taverns and inns! Tables spotted in Dalaran's Cantrips & Crows, Shattrath's World End Tavern, and
's The Grim Guzzler are now covered with playing cards! Bar vendors now sell
in limited amounts as well. As other dice were very difficult to acquire, such as
Decahedral Dwarven Dice
, except these vendors to slowly restock their wares.
We also datamined several more themed items:
Tunic of the Shattered Vale
: This seems similar to
Unmarked Bag of Gems
, a monthly reward from the
in Nagrand. Maybe we'd get some inscription cards or materials in the mail every month?
: Hearthstone has nine playable class heroes, based after major figures in Warcraft's lore. It looks like you'll be able to summon a Paladin Hero at some point, but based on his flavor text, he may be the type to hearth away when the going gets tough.
Fish of the Day
events with many Angler NPCs milling about for flavor, so it's not too much to hope that in future PTR builds, we could see Hearthstone-faction NPCs sitting down to play some friendly card games, as well as quests to gain reputation with them so we can get our hands on that Paladin trinket.
Doritos Locos Feasts
Blizzard isn't exactly foreign to brand inserting into World of Warcraft--just look at the battle bots they did with Mountain Dew years ago. It looks like this time Doritos have hooked up with Blizzard to advertise their new Doritos Locos flavors.
Luckily they've chosen to do so in a way that really benefits raiders! When cooking
Great Pandaren Banquet
, you have a chance to create a stronger feast that grants +300 to a stat instead of +275! Chefs all around Azeroth are promoting this tasty new feast as well with new dialogue, so get cooking!

The Great Noblegarden TCG Egg Hunt 2013
2013/04/01 at 10:19 AM
Spring is in the air and
is in full swing! In celebration, we've teamed up with our friends at
WoW TCG Loot
to give us tons of fabulous prizes from the latest WoW TCG expansion
Betrayal of the Guardian
to hide around the site!
So how do you play? The Wowhead community team has hidden ten
Brightly Colored Eggs
in our database and it's up to you to find them before the holiday week is over. We'll provide you the clues, but you'll have to do the rest of the sleuthing on your own.
For every clue you answer by visiting its respective database entry, you'll get entered into the contest through unlocking a special holiday Wowhead achievement. The achievement can be earned up to ten times meaning you have ten chances to win.
Participating is as easy as reading the riddles and going on a hunt through Wowhead's database while logged in. Use your own resources and get creative while looking for the answers; try searching for various keywords found in the clues and remember that Google is always your friend.
And if you get stuck, don't despair--some of them are hard while some are easy, so everyone should be able to get at least one entry into this contest!
Here are the ten clues for the ten eggs
The weather's getting warmer, let's hit the
! If you're not prepared, this newer vanity item from the latest expansion should provide you with appropriate new digs--and a bucket to boot!
One of the more popular vanity trinkets for those who like to make an impact, everyone will get starstruck when you use it even if its effect hasn't been powerful since 2006. Hopefully you didn't
With everyone swooning over
Teebu's Blazing Longsword
, some warriors might be keen to know they can get their jedi on with a two hander for the low price of free with this item. Why Blizzard decided a 2her version should only exist for Alliance warriors, well, we'll never know. Faction change anyone?
This rare hunter pet added in 5.1 is wearing a fez. No, we're not monkeying around--he actually wears a fez.
Have your travels throughout Azeroth got your feet a little tired? Maybe these will make you more
. Perhaps someone can craft you up a pair.
Looking for some good grilled calamari? You just missed this catch then, it's only available in the colder months! Better luck next time!
If the original slipped off your finger, it will cost you a pretty penny to find its stylish replacement--such is the
lifestyle. You might regret spending all that gold, but at least you'll immediately be at the center of attention.
We really wanted to punch someone when this achievement was removed. So who needs a beat down? Probably Cataclysm, as the skill it was based off was removed in that expansion!
When doing the Argent Tournament dailies, you might not remember to pick up a hidden daily by looting this item. It doesn't give seals as a reward, but you get to kill a legendary sea monster. Worth it.
No, we're not trolling. We think you're awesome for participating in this contest--
! Not convinced? Maybe you should do some WotLK dailies to get proof of how awesome you are!
Solve these ten clues to receive ten entries and ten chances to win the contest!
If you get stuck on a number you can always ask your friends, Google, or even your guildmates. It's also important to know that a clue will always refer to a specific item or NPC--meaning if it's a mount, we want the item you learn the mount from, not the spell for it. You can also read the comments here at Wowhead and see if anyone has added another tip! Just make sure you don't post the exact answers here on Wowhead or you'll be disqualified and temporarily banned until the hunt is over.
We have prizes from the twentieth WoW TCG expansion,
Betrayal of the Guardian
! Be sure to check out other WoW TCG products as well, including the upcoming
Caverns of Time raid deck
Ghastly Charger's Skull
one month of WoW game time
Rules and Qualifications
This contest is open to anywhere that residents are allowed to participate in contests.
No one may win more than one prize. While you might enter multiple times, you can't walk away with multiple TCG items.
If you win, the contest page will be edited to include your Wowhead username and you will be contacted via the email address associated with that account. Make sure your Wowhead information is updated; we don't want a certain
to have to skip your house because you didn't answer!
We reserve the right to disqualify any fraudulent entry.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft Announced, Official Press Release, FAQ, and Artwork
2013/03/22 at 9:00 AM
Today at PAX East, Blizzard announced that they have had a fifth team working on another game. Comprised of fifteen developers, the idea was to make a great game that got back to Blizzard's roots by having something fun and less serious.
The game is called Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft and it is an online strategy card game.
The official website is now live
so are the beta sign-ups
. You can also follow them on Twitter at
Hearthstone is "a charming collective strategy card game set in the Warcraft universe." You can play as nine different mighty heroes with different focuses. There will be commons, rares, epics, and even legendary cards. It will be free-to-play with optional purchases for cards; there's also something called a crafting system, where you will be able to change your cards by disenchanting them into arcane dust which will let you build other cards.
Additionally, as they explained in today's presentation, its ruleset will be less complex as they feel that is a barrier to entry for most gamers into card games. It will be available on Windows, Mac, and iPad, with an estimated launch later this year.
Hearthstone will be available to play at Booth 1036 at PAX, along with the console version of Diablo.
What do you think? Will you be trying out Hearthstone or are card games not your cup of tea?
Hearthstone Press Kit
Perc is at PAX East and picked up a press kit which covers the basics of the game as well some gorgeous artwork. Check out the official Press Release, FAQ, and videos, as well as concept art, card images, screenshots of the game, and Stormwind and Orgrimmar gameboards.
