Database Zone Updates
We've been updating our
Zone entries
for Warlords of Draenor with the
Screenshots of the Day
, and the unique sounds, such as the ones found in
Frostfire Ridge
.
If you'd like to learn more about Warlords zones, there was some Frostfire Ridge video footage taken a few weeks ago from the PAX East alpha build.
This channel
has over 4 hours of footage.
This video covers gameplay towards the end of the zone, but there are 10 total in the series:

Bashiok Provides More Information On Flying in Warlords
Community Manager Bashiok has again been waxing lyrical on the topic of flying in Warlords of Draenor. The TL;DR is as follows, but you can expand the box below to read his full post:
Flight paths will be far quicker and more efficient than they currently are.
Draenor is having max-level content zones, not just to level through but to quest through. The devs feel it's important that this content is enjoyed as it's meant to be by players, and that means from the ground.
They not intending to slow anyone down, and we’re going to make sure that players can get where they want to go efficiently through more direct flight points, and potentially
alternate travel methods

This probably should have been kept to the original thread, but caution to thee, wind, I say! (I say that.)
So everyone has seen various posts and comments around the World Wide Web about flying not being allowed in Draenor, why, and what that means. It’d probably be helpful to try to

News Roundup: Proving Grounds Silver Required for WoD Heroics, Talk Azeroth Episode 27

Early this morning, it was announced that Heroic Dungeons in Warlords of Draenor would require the completion of Silver Proving Grounds for your role (tank, healer, or dps) to queue up with randoms. This was hinted before in our
Patch 5.4 interview with Tom Chilton
. Keep in mind this is just for matchmaking groups--you don't need any medals to queue up with friends.
Proving Grounds will be retuned for level 100s in Warlords, and more attention will be paid to make sure tuning is even across the board for each spec. If you want to check out Proving Grounds now, check out our
guide to Proving Grounds with maps and strategies
.
Olivia is also back with another episode of Talk Azeroth, hitting all this week's news, and there's a lot to get through! She starts off with a discussion of the price for the level 90 boost, then moves into looking at the new character models. Next up it's some PvP talk, but PvE fans can skip ahead to 23:45 to get past it to a brief chat and a question about the new questing style introduced with WoD!

Talk Azeroth
In the latest episode of Talk Azeroth, Olivia's giving away an Alterac Brew pup this week, as well as talking about the big news -- WoW only went and GAINED subscribers! We've also found out since the last show just when patch 5.4.7 is coming, and Olivia discusses the reasons for the sub bump as well as the impact of the upcoming patch and the buy-a-90.
She then gives out an Alterac Brew Pup and answer your questions, starting with our winner's question selected at random (11.24), then moving into a question about PvP seasons that really just relates to the release date (13.20). Next up, one about Battleground bots (16.10), and finally, we chat CRZ and the queue time issues that might arise in combination with server connections(19.47).

Is it Cata-style catch-up? Mists-mannered absence? Or something in between? Then she addresses a question a lot of viewers sent in from ep22 -- should level 90 boosts include professions? Talk Azeroth Episode 20: Gearing in Warlords of Draenor
Olivia dives deep into the gear changes coming in Warlords of Draenor and dissects the implications of all the new systems -- long tail gearing, shifting primary stats, spirit as a secondary stat, loot drama and much more as well as hitting your viewer questions from last week's Garrison episode. If you want to get in touch with Olivia, email her on olivia@zam.com
Flex Mode Scaling Changes
At BlizzCon, we'd discussed some improvements to our Flexible scaling system that would minimize the existence and impact of any real or perceived "breakpoints." Our design goal has always been for the system to be neutral with respect to group size. Specifically, you should never feel encouraged to turn away interested players whose skill/gear level matches the rest of the group's, basic role composition constraints notwithstanding. But at the same time, you shouldn't feel like you need to go out and grab warm bodies if you have a perfectly serviceable raid already assembled. Clearly we have not yet fully realized those goals.

Talk Azeroth Episode 19, New In-Game Store Additions on PTR

The
latest 5.4.2 PTR build
added
cobwebs and skeletons back to Karazhan
, but more importantly, it greatly improved the in-game Blizzard Store. This goes along with some new datamined
globalstrings
covering store transactions yesterday.
The PTR store now has categories for Mounts, Pets, and Consumables, as well as a Featured Item page. The
most recent Blizzard Store items
, the
Enchanted Fey Dragon
and
Alterac Brew-Pup
, aren't added to the store yet, but the other mounts and pets are. Another neat feature is that you can view the 3D model for all of the items.
