5.1 PTR: New Reputation Rewards, User of the Month
2012/11/09 at 3:11 PM
This latest PTR patch added rewards to
quartermasters! Rewards include ilvl 496 boots, rings, belts, and trinkets, as well as ilvl 458 trinkets, and commendation tokens (
Grand Commendation of Operation: Shieldwall
Grand Commendation of the Dominance Offensive
). The most interesting reward by far is
Grand Armored Wyvern
Grand Armored Gryphon
at Exalted. (Note: when these items were first datamined a few weeks ago, they had different stats and names, often appearing as duplicate copies of existing reputation rewards. If you are still seeing the old tooltips, try clearing your cache.)

Blizzard Dev Notes, Patch 5.0.5 Hotfixes
2012/11/08 at 11:35 AM
Earlier this week, the Blizzard Community Team shared notes from weekly developer meetings to fansites! While this is a partial transcript as not all questions and answers can be shared with the public, there's a ton of useful information covering a wide breadth of topics and it's a neat to see what's discussed at dev meetings. We've summarized the highlights below, and be sure to check out (removed) the complete Q&A over at Wowjuju, as well as their extremely-useful (removed).
Several class issues and abilities were brought up:

The instance creation cap can be dodged by resetting while inside the instance.
Challenge Mode mounts are intended to be account-wide.
Leaderboards are planned to not be reset this expansion.
Blizzard is happy with PvP vendors on the wall: map icons and in-game mail clarify their locations. The rewards from random Battlegrounds and dungeon bonuses were changed to fit the new reward structure in MoP. Discip

Class Balance Concerns -> BM Hunters
Update: We have just discovered a bug in which the debuff that makes Stampede pets weaker than normal pets was not being applied in Arenas. This helps explain why hunters could cause so much damage in Arenas but not in (say) the outdoor world or a dungeon environment.

Now that Mists of Pandaria has been out a few weeks, we wanted to let you all know what we consider working well in PvP, what we want to improve, and what’s coming down the pike. I’m going to split this up into three parts: a discussion of Matchmaking Rating (MMR), class balance concerns, and a sneak peek at some of our PvP plans.

As I’m sure you’re aware, the intent behind MMR is to match players by skill. This is accomplished by comparing an assigned number (MMR) that adjusts based on the relative MMR of t
5.1 PTR: New PvP Faction Rewards and Quests
2012/10/19 at 12:04 PM
The conflict between the Alliance and Horde is really heating up in 5.1. In the recent PTR patch, vendors were added in Krasarang Wilds that sell zone-specific PvP items, and we datamined a few more quest chains charting the story developments in this area.
(Edit: This article was updated 11/28 with finalized Commendation items and prices.)
To recap: there are new PvP hubs in Krasarang Wilds in 5.1 that have daily quests, charting the growing conflict between the Alliance and the Horde. Along with this, there are two new factions:

5.1 PTR: Brawler's Guild and New Krasarang Wilds PvP Hubs
2012/10/14 at 10:36 AM
Level 90 characters are working once again on the PTR, so we took a look at the new developments in Stormwind, Orgrimmar, and Krasarang Wilds. There's two major features that we found:
Krasarang Wilds PvP Hubs
. From what we've seen, it looks like the Alliance is getting a lot of love when it comes to these new areas that show off combat and PvP skills--their areas show that they've rebounded from Theramore.
Krasarang Wilds: New PvP Hubs
A large part of 5.1 is about the Alliance and Horde conflict escalating to the point where they've set up military bases on the shores of Krasarang Wilds.
Two new reputations have been added as a result:
for the Alliance and
for the Horde.
The Alliance hub is located at
in the east, and the Horde hub is located at
to the far west.
Each base has objectives for the enemy team to capture like graveyards and towers, commissions to earn that can recruit guards to protect your new territory, and daily quests.

Battlegrounds Preview: Temple of Kotmogu and Silvershard Mines
2012/10/08 at 11:27 AM
With the new PvP season underway this week, we thought it would be a good time to highlight the two new battlegrounds:
Temple of Kotmogu
. They're both level 90 battlegrounds for 10 players, with interesting twists on familiar battlegrounds like Arathi Basin and Warsong Gulch.
Check out our list of PvP gear you can purchase
Temple of Kotmogu
During the lost days of ancient Pandaria, the ruling mogu built temples not unlike themselves – immense in size, vast in scope, and steeped in forces as old as the ground beneath their feet. Stony statues of the mogu still glare down from their long-vacant temples, and echoes of their supremacy persist to the present day. Inside the autumnal Temple of Kotmogu, a vicious melee has erupted over artifacts the mogu left behind: treasures older than the bloodlines of human kings and the clans of orcs, orbs of power that have bathed in the energies of Pandaria for ages. Will they bring the might of the mogu to the Horde or Alliance?
A team wins when 1600 points are reached. Points are gained when players co
Season 12 PvP Preview
2012/10/02 at 12:14 PM
Season 12, the latest PvP season, starts on
. There are new Honor and Conquest quartermasters selling ilvl 464-483 gear. This gear is pretty good for increasing your ilvl and starting dungeons--unlike past expansions, the PvP stats do not cut into the PvE itemization.
There are two new PvP stats in Mists: PvP Power and PvP Resilience. PvP Power increases the damage you do to other players as well as the healing you do to other players in PvP situations. PvP Resilience continues to be a defense stat. These two stats will only work in PvP situations, helping to ensure that PvE gear will remain weaker. Yon can filter by these stats now in our database.

Patch 5.0.4 on August 28th, PvP Season 11 Ending
2012/08/14 at 11:17 AM
Community manager Kaivax just confirmed that Patch 5.0.4 will hit on August 28th for US servers. This patch brings about many class changes as well as the pre-expansion Theramore event.
Blizzard also announced today that Season 11 is ending the week of Tuesday, August 28th, with end-of-season rewards following one week later. In the interim period until Mists of Pandaria, there will be no

Mists of Pandaria: PvP Gear Preview
2012/07/30 at 10:38 AM
Friday's patch had huge additions for Season 12 PvP gear. Not only were many set bonuses changed, but models were added to all the Season 12 items, from weapons to capes. Plus, a few PvP sets had their models changed since we first previewed them--hunter, paladin, and priest!
We've listed all the PvP weapons, armor sets, and accessories with their corresponding 3D models and set bonuses below. Click the images to view them with the Flash modelviewer.
Some basic info:
There are three tiers of PvP armor: Dreadful (Honor Points), Malevolent (Conquest Points), and Malevolent Elite (Conquest Points + 2200 rating). Each of these armor sets has a distinctive tint.
All 2 piece set bonuses increase PvP Power by 300 and PvP Resilience by 600.
All 4 piece set bonuses increase PvP Power by 400 and PvP Resilience by 800.
PvP Power and PvP Resilience are new stats in Mists. PvP Power increases the damage you do to other players as well as the healing you do to other players in PvP situations. PvP Resilience continues to be a defense stat. These two stats will only work in PvP situations, helping to ensure that PvE gear will remain weaker.
Each set has class-specific 2 piece and 4 piece bonu
