Patch 4.2: Ragnaros 10-man Preview and Strategy
2011/05/28 at 8:38 AM
We got a chance to check out Ragnaros yesterday on 10-man normal mode. Seeing a final boss for an instance on the PTR is a rare treat; Blizzard usually doesn't give away the end of the instance so easily and it was surprisingly polished except for a minor glitch with visuals on the platform.
As you might remember from
the dungeon journal entry
, Ragnaros is a three phase fight in normal mode. There's an additional fourth phase in heroic. We were able to get him down into phase three and close to a kill. He seemed a little undertuned, even if it was 10-man normal mode and it is PTR. It was just too easy to get down quickly. This was largely because few abilities were punishing--it was only in phase three and during intermissions which served as phase transition that you could wipe from a single mistake.
We made a quick video to show you the footage of our progress (special thanks to my guild
Out of Line
for being awesome and helping). This video is a rough guide and hopefully will give you a better overview of the fight's general progression. Of course, if you prefer text, there's a
Patch 4.2 - PTR Build 14179 - Spell Changes, New Items and More!
2011/05/25 at 6:11 PM
Blizzard has just released a new PTR patch, as a follow-up to yesterday's
major official patch notes update
. Just a few class changes and clarifications today, mostly already documented in the previous patch notes update - including spell details for the nerfed raid boss abilities. We're still digging in the patch data, so if we find any more interesting additions we'll be updating this post!
As for new items, Blizzard has added yet another
batch of epic quality loots (over 250 new/updated items!), and finally started adding the actual item sets for the Tier 12 items, so you guys will be able to easily find and check out set bonuses and all that good stuff!

Check it out!
It appears that the pet collection achievements will now offer awesome new rewards!
Patch 4.2 - PTR Build 14133 - New Models for Nozdormu, Fire Raven God and More!
2011/05/19 at 4:51 PM
Last night's patch included a few interesting new 3D models after all! Most notably the fiery version of Anzu makes an appearance--
he was mentioned here
a while ago as one of the coveted vanity rewards, but there's still no word on where he drops.
In addition to this bad boy, the patch also included an amazing humanoid model for the bronze dragon Nozdormu (he shows up at some part of the
legendary staff quest chain
and the Thrall questline) and an amazing set of fiery shoulders upon one of Majordomo Staghelm's Druids of the Flame. These guys appear in the Alysrazor encounter and throughout Firelands as trash mobs. Not only that, but we've got an updated model for the new , a scorching Overfiend, and a poor guy having a very rough day. Be sure to click the screenshots and check 'em out in our awesome 3D model viewer!

Patch 4.2 - PTR Build 14133 - New Items, Spell Changes and Icons!
2011/05/18 at 10:26 PM
Blizzard has snuck another late night patch onto the 4.2 PTRs! This latest update doesn't seem to feature very many interesting spell changes, as most seem to be simply tooltip clarifications and rewordings, but there's probably something I'm not noticing so you guys should definitely check 'em out! Pretty ho-hum new icons, as well, though the one labeled "fireravengodmount" definitely raises my eyebrow. Speaking of mounts, looks like PVP aficionados are going to get some love with the new ! Snazzy!
In addition, we've also got quite a handful of interesting new

New Site Feature: 4.2 Encounter Journal Integration
2011/05/18 at 8:26 PM
As many of you guys may remember, way back at BlizzCon, Blizzard announced that they were working on a new
(then called "Dungeon Journal") game feature. This new feature would provide tons of valuable information in-game to players, including detailed dungeon information such as boss lists, drop tables, and ability details. Well, not only is the tool finally being added to World of Warcraft in the upcoming Patch 4.2, but we're happy to announce that we have been able to make all of the Encounter Journal details available on the site, as well!
Now dungeon pages on Wowhead (including zone pages and boss pages) will feature content directly from Blizzard's in-game Encounter Journal! Blizzard has been slowly implementing this content on the PTR, so not all dungeons feature Encounter Journal information at this time, but as soon new entries are available they'll start showing up on their respective dungeon pages.
Patch 4.2 - PTR Build 14107 - Achievements, Spell Changes, Items, and More
2011/05/13 at 5:22 PM
Another patch on the PTR just in time for Friday. There's tons of stuff, but the most important thing we have is that we think we've figured out the proc of from our spells in our database.
This is purely speculation and is subject to change, so take it with a grain of salt, but I wouldn't be surprised if we're right.
It looks like you gain an aura () and it duplicates your harmful spells sometimes: . Their damage appears as which is arcane damage.
Other notable finds
WoW's 7th anniversary might have a little more than just a vanity pet or a feat of strength: ! You will most likely be able to change the appearance of your tabard so you aren't stuck wearing the same old one for its benefits.
Pet collectors are going to be very happy with 4.2 it looks like. will introduce the return of from the TCG. There will also be which will reward a new pet: .
Achievement hunters should be happy, too: from achievements for Zul'Aman that should have existed ([achi
News Roundup: Dragonwrath Legendary Staff Clarifications, 4.2 Firelands Preview Updated
2011/05/10 at 7:05 PM
Just a small handful of Blizzard posts today, as it's the start of the week and we haven't been completely flooded with new info from the Blues (though there have been many welcome additions in the latest PTR patches, as I'm sure you guys have noticed)! As expected, most of the forum discussion has focused around since it has finally been datamined (with its datamined stats). I'd like to take this moment to remind you guys that (as always)
that has been datamined from the PTR files is subject to change. All of it. Even the things Blizzard says themselves in their patch notes is subject to change. Remember that the Public Test Realms are just that -
realms - and that you may not be seeing the final version of some of these awesome items which are planned to go live. :)

We have a preview of Druid Tier 12 armor up as well as some more 3D models to share with you from the PTR. Remember to view it in our model viewer through the java option rather than flash if you want to see particle effects and details--this feature recently received an overhaul so they're looking even better than before.

Patch 4.2 - PTR Build 14040 - New Items, Spell Changes, Icons, and Maps
2011/05/10 at 1:15 PM
After an agonizingly slow Monday, Tuesday picks up the pace with another patch for the PTR. The legendary's stats are finally datamined, over fifty new items are in our database (including more tier previews), and we've got a lot of spell changes to show you as well.
has appeared, sadly with hit rating and no proc yet (this is intended so we can't spoil ourselves too badly). It also looks like the legendary's other phases-- and --are very nice items so the staff grows with you as you get into heroic progression like how was useful.
is confirmed as a faction and has some rewards listed! Keep in mind it's likely that each class gets its own rewards and ones haven't been tied in for other roles than tanks.
Engineers get a new gun to make with some awesome flavor text: !
If you needed another reason to love Blizzard, might work.

Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest Legendary Staff Quest Guide

of the 4.2 PTR has revealed quite a few new quests, including Hyjal daily quests and (most importantly) new quests related to the
Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest
questline! We've put together a guide to the quest chain (as it currently exists) detailing the challenge players will have to undertake in order to complete this truly legendary adventure! There aren't very many details on the sources for the various quest items that will drop in , though Blizzard has stated that the quests will be challenging for the entire guild involved (which is why they'll all get that cute )! It may be similar to creation of the

Not very many details have been revealed about the staff item itself, though Blizzard has confirmed that the stats and bonuses will favor offensive casters (DPS). They have also confirmed that the staff will feature the incredible effect of changing your character into a dragon. No details yet on how exactly
