April Fool's and News Round Up
2012/04/02 at 7:40 PM
April Fool's is one of our favorite holidays at Wowhead--we love coming up with our own pranks and seeing what other sites get up to! This year, the Wowhead staff plotted and created
a newspost about moggable legendaries and new world events on the Mists of Pandaria beta
--two things that I really wish were real! We hope you all had fun with it--we certainly did with all the disguises, fake database items, and Photoshop magic.
Here's some other April Fool's posts we really liked from around the web:
So how did you like all our grandios announcements yesterday? All nonsense you think? Okay, okay, we admit it: Yes, they were April Fool's pranks. But don't you wish they were real? To let you in on the fun we had yesterday and make sure you didn't miss any of our carefully crafted jokes, we list all of them again in this thread for you to check out. Which of them did you like best?
Happy beginning of April! :)

A Noxy Comic: Mists of Pandaria Speculation
2012/03/16 at 3:06 PM
We're sitting on a lot of Mists of Pandaria information and I really am having a hard time keeping it in. Since I can't hit publish yet, though, have a cute Noxy comic hot off the presses instead.
Noxy also asked me to request that anyone who wants to help write future comics should reach out here in this thread. She'd love to produce more of these so she needs
a comic writer
. And I think we all agree more Noxy art is always a good thing, so help her out!

Community and World of Warcraft
This isn't the first nor the last time we will see a discussion about community and the sense of community, I'm sure, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's important though that we keep these discussions constructive however.I'm going to channel some Ghostcrawler for you this morning and see if we can open up the discussion a bit.
/puts on her hat and robe
Keeping a sense of community while still meeting the needs of the community as a whole is a huge challenge for us. We fundamentally believe that having a sense of community is an important thing for the long-term health of the game. However, we don’t think the way to foster that community is to force players to s

Blizzard Lays Off 600 Employees
2012/02/29 at 12:05 PM
Blizzard is letting go approximately six hundred employees globally with over 90% of them from non-development teams (
). According to Blizzard, the development cycle will not be impacted.
As a personal aside, to everyone let go, the Wowhead staff is thinking of you and we hope you land on your feet. Layoffs are horrible things to experience.
We announced today that we’re in the process of cutting a number of active positions, mostly non-development, throughout the company. I'm sure this announcement has sparked some questions from all of you, so I want take this opportunity to address those as best I can. Over the past several years, the company has grown rapidly and evolved to better serve you and the rest of our global community. Thanks to all of your support, we continue to serve by far the biggest subscription-based MMO community, as well as the most passionate eSports and online gaming communities, in the world.
In order to keep making epic game content while serving players effectively, we have to be sm

News Round Up: Dragon Soul Nerfs Continue and so do MoP Talent Explanations
2012/02/22 at 2:29 PM
Dragon Soul is receiving what will be the second of its zone wide nerfs, decreasing the damage dealt and health of its enemies by 10% from 5%.
There has been some retaliation from players, but it's always good to remember that the last thing Blizzard wants is another situation like the original Naxxaramas--it is their company goal now to have the majority of its playerbase experience the encounters and this is their method of doing it. Besides, it's not like it's a surprise now, is it?
In other news, we have our recent giveaway winners to announce. We have a bunch because I went on a giveaway spree last week. I'm sorry, I won't do it again!

As promised, we have the winners from
last week's Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning giveaway
! We also have the news accrued from the past several days, including my personal favorite: StarCraft 2 RISK and World of Warcraft Monopoly. Those are my two favorite board games, so having them paired up with two of my favorite digital games seems a bit surreal.

News Round Up: Mists of Pandaria News Coming Soon, Bug Fixes, And More
2012/02/03 at 1:43 PM
We have a bunch of blue posts from throughout the week for you to read. It's been a busier week than normal, with Blizzard seemingly finally waking up and getting ready to show us the goods! With this week's earlier announcement that a press event scheduled for March, we can only hope February passes as quickly as possible, because I think we're all dying to hear more about those pandas.
And possibly their brews.
With all the recent posts turning focus back to Mists, what do you guys think--
when will Mists of Pandaria be released?
Do you think we could be leveling this Fall in the new continent...or do you think it will be further off than that? Or hey, maybe sooner?
Mists of Pandaria
I like your thread, Vorps! It's great to see some positive discussion and speculation about where this game is headed. :)
We're definitely very focused on opening the doors a little wider to new ideas to really grasp onto what will make this game as fun as possible. It's 7 years old after all. We're not going to reinvent the wheel in Mists of Pandaria, but we want to introduce new types of compelling content with meaningful rew
News Round Up: World of Warcraft Cups, MoP Talents, BlizzCon Cancellation, and Addon of the Week
2012/01/26 at 2:11 PM
We have a lot of blue posts for you to digest today--from reminicising about Ulduar (and a blue subsequently explaining why Ulduar wasn't that awesome for everyone) to talking about AMPM cups, there's a little bit of everything Blizzard related. Zarhym even took the time to explain what Blizzard's thoughts are on that +intellect plate that always drops and everyone disenchants after their paladin is decked out.
Oh, and of course, everyone's talking about that BlizzCon cancellation as well.
Our friends at WoW Interface also posted their addon of the week. It's an amazing one. Have you ever wanted the encounter journal to have more encounters? You know, those pesky vanilla WoW ones and more? Well, thanks to the power of addons, it can be that awesome!
