That Darn Furbolg
2009/02/20 at 2:04 PM
Some 10,000 years ago
, revered mage of the
and a member of The Six who oversee
, negotiated an alliance between earthen, tauren, night elves, and a mysterious bear-man race who supposedly originated in
. The alliance proved successful against the Burning Legion for the time being. Over the years these bear-men, given the term furbolg, befriended the night elves and tauren. The night elves found nurturing allies in the furbolg as they were invaluable for their knowledge of the moonlit forests. However, the Burning Legion would not let this truce go unhindered for long.
Our blog entry today deals with the furbolg. I bet a lot of you have seen them in-game, whether you recognized them or not. Through time, I have learned to appreciate some of the finer points of lore and I think these creatures are simply fascinating. Some of you may be curious about what a furbolg is and why exactly I am obsessed with them. Well, who cares!

The Sungrass is Always Greener on the Other Side of the Zone

My faction choice has historically been
a little biased
. My first character was a Dwarven Hunter that reached the ripe old level of 42 in the original game before I got tired of getting ganked in
by bored Horde (which would make a good name for a guild, in my opinion). I also rolled a Dwarven Rogue as part of
a Three Stooges joke
. He was 'Cheatem'. I thought the name to be an apt one.
Regardless, most of my experience has been on the Horde side of the fence. I know that to be the case with Malgayne as well, so when I saw him exclaim
For The Horde...?
, the unsureness of his statement made me wonder if he was thinking of becoming a turncoat. So, I read his post. What did I learn? Malgayne suffers from the same syndrome that a lot of my friends do from time to time: Faction Envy.
For the Horde...?

If you can't tell from the artwork at the top – that Blood Elf on the left is me – I'm a Horde player. I was an Alliance player for all of seven levels before I made the switch, and made the switch for good. Now I have my Blood Elf paladin main, a Troll mage and an Undead warlock alt, and scattered other random characters (I know I still have a shaman somewhere). I picked a server, I picked a faction, and I stuck with it. I rolled Horde side on Draenor and I never looked back.
Or did I?
Sometimes...I...I'm not sure I feel comfortable saying this. Sometimes...
I wish I had rolled Alliance
A Tale of Two Tribes

Greetings fellow travelers of Northrend! Today I invite you to join me in my adventure into
and experience a war between two rival factions. The
, who were forced to travel to Sholazar Basin because of the Scourge invading their homelands, have taken up arms against the native Gorlocs. The Gorlocs who occupy the basin are known as
, and consider themselves the guardians of the mysterious titan artifacts that litter their home. Though they know almost nothing about these artifacts, they worship and protect them from any harm.
Upon reaching level 76, you might find yourself trudging through the marshes and jungles of Sholazar Basin, surrounded by the warm atmosphere and rich, lavishing landscapes. I'm sure you have come across our little friends roaming the basin, shouting at each other and calling each other names like "Big-tongues" and "Puppy-men", and you may have thought to yourself, "How can I get involved in this growing conflict between these adorable little creatures?" This, my friends, is your answer.
