News Roundup: Valor Points, Professions in MoP, Player Feedback
posted
2013/05/13 at 12:05 PM
by
perculia
In today's news roundup, Bashiok has been busy on the forums these past few days, covering professions, player feedback, and gearing up with
Valor Points
:
In Patch 5.3, item upgrades are returning at a reduced cost (0
Valor Points
instead of 0
Valor Points
) and several Shado-Pan Assault rewards are being moved down from Revered to a lower reputation requirement.
Justice Points
are sidelined for now, and making players rely so much on
Valor Points
at the start of the expansion was an oversight.
In response to players asking about in-game surveys to provide feedback, Bashiok explained that Blizzard already amasses an exhaustive amount of player data, from talents players pick to what dailies are the most popular. Of course, forum feedback is also useful as it provides insights into player choices.
There were also a few interesting content tidbits:
Black Temple was mean to be in the game at Burning Crusade's launch.
While most of Patch 5.3 was planned out a while ago, Battlefield: Barrens was only planned in 5.2.
Players gave lots of feedback on missing Heroic Dungeons at one point, so Heroic Scenarios are a nod to those players.

News Round Up: World of Warcraft Cups, MoP Talents, BlizzCon Cancellation, and Addon of the Week

We have a lot of blue posts for you to digest today--from reminicising about Ulduar (and a blue subsequently explaining why Ulduar wasn't that awesome for everyone) to talking about AMPM cups, there's a little bit of everything Blizzard related. Zarhym even took the time to explain what Blizzard's thoughts are on that +intellect plate that always drops and everyone disenchants after their paladin is decked out.
Oh, and of course, everyone's talking about that BlizzCon cancellation as well.
Our friends at WoW Interface also posted their addon of the week. It's an amazing one. Have you ever wanted the encounter journal to have more encounters? You know, those pesky vanilla WoW ones and more? Well, thanks to the power of addons, it can be that awesome!
Check out CompleteEJ over at WoWInterface today
and let us know what you think.
The D3DB crew also has been tirelessly datamining some big Diablo III changes--check them out and the Beta Patch 10 notes

No BlizzCon in 2012

Some shocking news early this morning--there will be no BlizzCon in 2012. Blizzard says that since they've been working hard on Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Heart of the Swarm, their schedule is already jam-packed. This announcement will probably come as a disappointment to some players (including myself! I had a blast attending last year) who viewed BlizzCon as a way to socialize with WoW friends in person. However, there probably wouldn't be much new news to cover with MoP coming soon--BlizzCons that haven't revealed new expansions have been less exciting.

It's been a busy week for Ashelia and myself in the wake of BlizzCon. Like our 4.3 coverage roundup a few weeks back, we wanted to organize everything related to BlizzCon in one post--because we know there's some awesome things that slipped through the cracks in your first read-through. We'll be launching a full Mists of Pandaria guide shortly (that will include even more information released outside of BlizzCon--like Thursday's Dev Q&A), but in the meantime, catch up on all the news coverage and relive the last weekend!

A lot of news following the aftermath of BlizzCon. We've also got a cool contest coming up that I just got into today--it should launch before the end of the week, so be on the lookout for it!
Guild Services: Relocation, Faction Changes & Name Changing
We are in the process of adding new guild services that will make relocating to a new realm, switching factions, or changing your guild name easier than ever before. Relocating your guild to a new realm or faction with this new service will keep your guild structure intact, including the guild leader, guild bank, ranks, and guild name (depending on availability). You won't even need to pack.
Guild members who decide to relocate with their guild may initiate their own paid character transfer. Upon a successful transfer they will automatically be part of the guild when they first log into the new realm. Their guild rank and guild reputation will be intact.
Guild leaders who do not want a change of scenery may also choose to pick a new guild name using another new service.
As a part of the process for adding these new services, we are launching on a single realm (Illidan-US) to perform additional t

BlizzCon 2011: Exclusive Interview with Dave Kosak, WoW Lead Quest Designer

Saturday afternoon, I was fortunate enough to get a one-on-one interview with Dave Kosak, WoW Lead Quest Designer, before his Lore and Story Q&A. Ashelia and I brainstormed some questions together before I sat down with Dave. During the interview, I made sure to ask him about some of our favorite--and least favorite--questing experiences, as well as how they were handling phasing and truly epic questlines in Mists of Pandaria. I hope you enjoy reading the summarizes of his responses--he shared details unreleased at BlizzCon such as a potential new MoP faction, the Lorewalkers!
We were also able to attend a group Q+A with J. Allen Brack and Jay Wilson about World of Warcraft and Diablo III. We've got the all the answers under the break--some of the information was already covered in other panels, so be sure to check our full coverage for details.
Exclusive Interview with Dave Kosak
Q: It's always been a struggle to make players feel like they truly impact the world. How are you showcasing this in MoP? Do the zones progress and change depending on questlines? What about phasing?
A:One thing we always struggle with--is we have this tool, phasing, but a large problem is that it separates players easily. Phasing, as I

Today was another huge day, so we have combined this post into a day two guide--nothing was quite big enough to stand out on its own.
However, we have some pretty big news here at Wowhead. All weekend, we had a huge focus on Mists of Pandaria, and our team manned up and worked overtime on a special project.
Even though the new talents are going to be changed and retooled, we have built an initial version of
