A Look at League of Legends
2010/01/15 at 6:53 PM
Some of you may remember Malgayne's
a while back about the upcoming game
League of Legends
. Well, LoL has been out for a while now, and I have had a chance to test out the game, so I thought I would share my experience with you!
Those of you who aren't interested in anything but WoW have my permission to stop reading now. :)

recently posted a piece concerning a new type of scam going around. It is a rather sophisticated attack, according to forum posters on the SomethingAwful forums.
The way it went down was a paid ad went up shortly on Google after the new features on the Armory went live. If you searched for Armory on Google it was listed in the sponsored section up at the top, as seen in the screenshot on the right. The entire site was a cleverly masked phishing site; it actively mirrored by proxy everything the real armory did. So it in reality looked like it should including all of the log in only content.
As of my recent check at 1:30pm EST on January 15, 2010 the ad seems to have been pulled by Google, but definitely keep your eyes out for scams like this!

TankSpot Making...a Feature-Length Film?

Apparently one of our friends at
are planning a WoW-themed documentary project called
This is a really interesting concept to me—obviously one that strikes very close to home, but beyond that I've always been really interested in the places that gaming and culture connect. They've set up a page on
in the hopes of gathering some funding in the form of donations.
If you're interested in hearing more about the project, you can check out their page here:
Or you can read the blurb after the break. I really encourage you to check this out—gamers are never going to be understood by the mainstream media unless we take the first step. They also have a fan page on Facebook which you can find
Star Trek Online Beta Keys for Premium Members
2010/01/14 at 12:18 AM
Just thought I'd take a moment to point out: the open beta for
Star Trek Online
has begun recently, but beta keys are hard to come by—unless, of course, you're a
here at Wowhead!
Here's How You Do It
Start by becoming a Premium user: click
and then follow the process.
Your Premium status is stored at
. When you
for Premium, Wowhead checks to see if you already have an account at ZAM, or at
, by cross-checking the email addresses. If you have a ZAM account already, it signs that account up for Premium and links it to your Wowhead account. If you don't, it silently creates a ZAM account (something like Malgayne|WH) and links THAT to your Wowhead account. Obviously we'll be streamlining this in the future. :P
In order to claim your Star Trek Online beta key, you need to log in to your ZAM account at
. But if you created your account silently, you won't have a password—so you need to go [url=

Twitter BlizzChat on Friday, Jan 15
2010/01/13 at 6:47 PM
The fine folks over at Blizzard are social networking with the best of them. So with the success of the previous developer chat on
, which you can read about
, they are going to be holding another one on
January 15, 2010
To get your question answered you will need to tweet a question with the #BlizzChat hashtag between 5:00pm and 6:00pm PST on Friday, January 15 2010. Due to the limited space available in a tweet, all answers will be posted on the official forums for everyone to read.
You can read more information on this event and the original post after the break. If you're looking to ask a question but you're not sure it will get answered, you can always post it here, and we'll be asking the best ones from our own Twitter account, which you can follow at
9th Battlecry Mosaic Tile Unlocked!
2010/01/13 at 12:33 AM
Warcraft Battlecry Mosaic
, which we last mentioned a week ago
, has had another tile unlocked. With
out of 20,000 pictures gathered we reached a new milestone and the new tile was unlocked. Along with this new tile we also had a piece of artwork made available on the site.
This piece of art is a crashed zeppelin sketch shown at World of Warcraft’s E3 reveal some years back which can be seen
We are 45% of the way complete and Blizzard still needs your help in collecting the remaining
pictures to complete the mosaic. So why don't you head over to the official
site and submit a picture?
Shout-Out From Pawn
2010/01/11 at 7:54 PM
Those of you who use the addon
will know that it's a loot-ranking addon, which determines an item's score based on point values you attach to their particular stats—in a similar manner as our own
feature, only directly in the game.
Well, Pawn users may have also noticed a subtle change in the addon, just like
did this morning. See the image to the right. :)
Hi Pawn guys!
Cataclysm Alpha NOT Starting Tuesday
2010/01/09 at 6:06 PM
Several websites have reported today that the F&F alpha test for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm
begin this upcoming Tuesday, January 12, 2010. Along with these rumours is a DVD (as seen on the right) that is
a copy of the alpha that will be distributed to testers instead of being a digital download to deter people from getting the data easily.
According to sources close to us here at Wowhead, we can confirm that all of these rumours are false and the alpha
be starting Tuesday. Also, the supposed alpha DVD has been confirmed to be fake.
As always, be careful with what you read on the interwebs!
Blizzard Giving Thought to Mandatory Authenticator?
2010/01/08 at 1:00 PM
recent article over at WoW.com, Blizzard is giving serious consideration to making authenticators mandatory for all accounts.
While I personally think this would be a great idea and could almost eliminate hacking attempts, I still see some problems with it. First there is the entire logistical operation involved with this, even if they provided an authenticator with every copy of the game from now on how would they get it to current customers. They also have a lot of trouble even keeping them in stock currently in the Blizzard Store. One way to combat that would be to make this go into effect during Cataclysm and bundle it with the new expansion and give some kind of grace period before they lock it down. Another issue I foresee happening is a lot of people really just plain dislike having to enter a second "password" that is random every time you login, this is especially bad if you have two accounts that you keep switching between.
Overall I personally welcome our new authenticator overlords when they
Looking Back on 2009... for Wowhead
2010/01/07 at 6:46 PM
In keeping with the tradition of the beginning of a new year, there have been a number of posts looking back on 2009, and all the interesting developments both in the world at large, and in our game of choice.
I thought, then, that I would take a moment to look at all the interesting developments here at Wowhead itself! There have been
a ton of changes
to the site here in the last year, and what better time to take stock than a new year?
