Introducing Wowhead for Diablo: D3DB
2012/05/11 at 10:20 AM
Diablo III is in less than a week and we're getting
excited here at Wowhead. It's been a long time coming. Of course, as release date nears, we've been getting a lot of questions about Wowhead's plans for D3 since it's so closely linked to World of Warcraft.
We figured it's a good time to remind everyone that there is a Wowhead for Diablo III:
our very own D3DB
. A site built by Wowhead fans, it was acquired a few months ago by the Wowhead team and we've been thrilled to have these guys join our team. As launch day inches closer, their site keeps growing and there's loads of stuff to show everyone.
better known features are:
A really awesome character planner
A skill calculator
A database full of
, and everything else you've come to expect from a site in the Wowhead family!

Cross-Realm Zones Introduced
2012/05/10 at 7:14 PM
With the latest beta patch, we’ve introduced Cross-Realm Zones for testing.
During the initial phase of testing we will be sharing the following zones between the available beta realms: Northern Barrens, Ashenvale, Azshara, Darkshore, Westfall, and Silithus. We are also able to split over-populated zones and will be testing this new technology on the Pandaren starting area (turtle zone).
For beta testing purposes, we will be matching up all realm types whether they are PvP or PvE. This is different than what we plan to do for the live realms, however. For the live realms we will be matching realm types: PvP with PvP, PvE with PvE, RP-PvP with RP-PvP, and RP-PvE with RP-PvE.
As always, we plan to keep an eye on constructive feedback while in testing of this new technology.
For more information on Cross-Realm sharing, please read the FAQ below:
Q. Why cross-realm zones?
For many years now, the significant majority of the player population online at any given time has consisted mostly of characters at or near the level cap. This has resulted in an environment where characters that are leveling up experience a world

Mists of Pandaria Zone Preview: Kun-Lai Summit
2012/05/09 at 4:29 PM
is a vast area with Pandaria's highest mountains, autumnal plains, royal underground tombs, a lush coastal area, and the dungeon
. There's also the Temple of the White Tiger, and a monk-only area, Peak of Serenity. It's a zone intended for level 87+ players to quest in.
Kun-Lai is different from the other zones in that there's a ton of scenic variety between the quest hubs, from snowy mountains to forests. Lore-wise, there's something for everyone with the invasion of the Zandalari, Yaungol attacks, the return of the Mogu, Pandaren monasteries, and the threat of the Sha.
We also found the
Sha of Anger
, a new world boss, towering over a village.
We have a visual preview below as well as a Blizzard Q&A about the zone!
Zouchin Village, North Wind Tavern, Isle of Reckoning, Thunder's Call
The Zandalari have attacked the Zouchin, an unarmed village located in the most fertile part of Kun-Lai Summit. As they have weak reinforcements, they need your help. Nobody has ever seen trolls before, so the Zandalari attacks are even more shocking.
To get to Zouchin Province, you ride a hot-air balloon wit

New Ghostcrawler Blog: Achievements in Mists of Pandaria
2012/05/08 at 8:59 AM
Ghostcrawler decided to tackle achievements in Mists of Pandaria, with some new information on account-wide ones.
class="detail">
We recently added account-level changes to achievements in World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria, and there’s still a lot of work left before we’re done. The plan here is to illustrate the intent behind our design, which should in turn help you figure out the answers to many of your questions.

Overall, we never want you to play Character A instead of Character B because of achievement concerns. If Character A had the Violet Proto-Drake, then you might not play Character B. If Character A was only one holiday away from the Violet Proto-Drake, then you may not play Character B. If Character A had completed most of the raid achievements from Dragon Soul, you may not want to bring Character B for one fight and miss out on the achievement. Having alts is cool and working on achievements is cool, but we don’t want the two systems to work against each other.

This goal is paramount and drives everyth
News Round Up: Class Beta Feedback, PvP Gear, Leaders of Azeroth
2012/05/07 at 6:21 PM
Today's news round up has a ton of blue posts. First off, there's a lot of detailed beta feedback for
s, including discussions about Level 90 Druid talents and Rapture for priests. There's also discussion about PvP gear in Mists,
Mass Spell Reflection
nerfs, Dungeon bugs on beta, and the recent completion of the Leaders of Azeroth short story series. Click the cut to see all the posts!
PvP Gear in Mists
You will have less resilience on your gear coming into beta. However, you will also have some base resilience and that base should offset the PvP power that everyone is getting. The net result should be that you take about the same damage you do today in a PvP setting, but will take less damage from someone not wearing PvP gear.
Currently on your beta build, I believe the ratio of power to resilience is off. You should have more resilience and less power than you do.
It is entirely possible that some new talents or spell changes will result in too much burst damage in isolated cases, but when giving feedback, it's useful for us if you distinguish between those and survivabili

Mists of Pandaria Zone Preview: Krasarang Wilds and The Veiled Stair
2012/05/02 at 12:18 PM
is a coastal jungle with tranquil beaches and dense rainforests. It used to be the center of the sinister Mogu Empire, but now it houses the sacred Temple of the Red Crane, revered as a place of wisdom.
Originally intended to be part of
Valley of the Four Winds
, the decision was recently made to turn this area into a full-fledged zone. While some of the quests do take players back into Valley, Krasarang has a distinctive look and unique quest sequences involving the spirituality of the Red Crane and destructive presence of the Sha. There are plans to develop the coastal area further in 5.1 with Alliance and Horde fortresses, and it is also currently home to

There are also

quirky quest rewards!
