Wowhead Site Features in 2011
2012/01/10 at 2:58 PM
2011 was a busy year for us at Wowhead and we're looking at 2012 now as we pick and choose the projects we want to put out. The problem is there's a lot of things we want to do and time is always our most valuable resource, so we could use a little help.
That's where you come in--we really want to examine 2011's project load and see what our community thought of it, in particular which one they felt was the most successful and most desired feature. Maybe you really liked
the transmogrification sets
and would like more of those such database enhancements in the future; perhaps you were drawn to
; or it's possible that you really like being able to pen a solid guide in
our guide section
. Either way, it's time to tell us!
So cast your vote on the poll and sound off in the comments on what features you liked the most on Wowhead this past year! If it's a tie, feel free to vote for more than one option! Also, if you want to read about these features further, they're covered on
our what's new page
as well. (You'll have to be logged i
Patch 4.3.2 - PTR Build 15176 - Spell Changes
2012/01/10 at 2:19 PM
We have our spell changes from the latest PTR build up. We've merged them with the past ones from last week, so you can see all the spell changes that are on the PTR so far. Besides the TCG items, there are no new items so far, but these are significant spell changes. The biggest are actually under NPC changes, where you can see Dragon Soul is in for some huge nerfs come 4.3.2.

A Guide to Collecting TCG Vanity Items
2012/01/07 at 10:10 AM
TCG items have long been the highlight of many Wowhead contests, thanks to our friends at
, and I personally love collecting TCG mounts and giving pet codes to friends! Not all players know about them though, besides going 'cool mount' when they see someone in a major city, so here's everything you need to know about them.
Before I list all the TCG items, their details, and equivalent items, here's some basic facts:
As part of the Trading Card Game, there are three cards in every new set that have special codes which can be redeemed for loot! These loot cards vary in rarity--generally there will be a commonly-acquired pet card, a somewhat-rare novelty item, and an extremely-rare mount.
To get your item, first you will need to go to WoW's
and enter in the 25-digit code. This will then give you an in-game code that can be redeemed by Landro Longshot in Booty Bay.
If you're uninterested in testing your luck with random packs of cards, there are alternate ways to get loot cards--for a price. Any TCG card or the exact code written on the card may be sold for real life money and not in-g
Cross Realm Raids in 4.3.2
2012/01/06 at 8:49 PM
We previously introduced the ability to form cross-realm parties with Real ID friends, and now with Patch 4.3.2, we're adding the ability for players to use that same functionality to form raids to run older normal or heroic raids, or participate in Battlegrounds!
This will allow you to join up with your Real ID friends from other realms and:
Form a cross-realm raid and use Raid Finder
Jump in to any classic dungeon or raid and be automatically placed in the same instance
Join forces and dominate the Battlegrounds
Please note, you will not yet be able to run normal or Heroic Dragon Soul with cross-realm Real ID raids.
As we look forward to the BattleTag system, it’s a very exciting time for World of Warcraft. No matter what realm you and your friends are on you’ll be able to team up and take on group content throughout the game.
2012 WoW TCG and Scott Pilgrim Giveaway
2012/01/05 at 2:18 PM
Giveaway is now closed: thanks for all of the creative entries! We will be announcing winners soon after we read through everything.
2012 is here and while the first week of the year comes to a close, there's one thing everyone wants to know about: New Year's resolutions. From in-game to the real world, every year millions of people make them--and then either stick to them with admirable resolve or crumble under pressure once the holidays are over.
Thanks to the generous folks at
, I've even got some gifts to hand out to those who answer
well. Ten commenters will receive one
Wooly White Rhino
each while another ten commenters will receive one
ball each. It gets even better, too; as an added bonus, the first five winners of the rhino code will also receive a box set of
Scott Pilgrim novels
which includes a poster as their grand prize!
Reply to this post and tell me what your New Year's resolutions are--either in-game or out--to be entered to win.

News Round Up: 4.3.2, Darkmoon Faire, and D3DB
2012/01/04 at 1:41 PM
Due to yesterday's downtime, we were a little slow on announcing our contest winners and getting the new PTR information out. However, we should make that up with some exciting news today that has to do with Sanctuary!
I have some awesome news that I've been holding in for a few weeks:
D3DB has joined the ZAM Network
! These guys were heavily inspired by Wowhead when they launched their database years ago and have become the best Diablo III resource around, so it's great to see it come full circle and get to team up with them in an official capacity. We'll be working closely with them as they are a fellow Blizzard fansite. (And it's Diablo III, I mean, do you know how awesome that is?)
On the WoW front, there were some difficulties this month with the Darkmoon Faire; dailies were not resetting, some monthly quests didn't either. Blizzard has patched it up, though, last night.
Make sure to check out our guide to how to get the most tickets

Darkmoon Despoiler: A Guide to Farming Darkmoon Artifacts
2012/01/02 at 2:40 PM
The Darkmoon Faire is back in town and it's time to start collecting tickets again for all those new vanity items. While there are mini-games and profession quests to help you along, the bulk of your monthly tickets will come from turning in special Darkmoon artifacts, so it's time to get farming! As it appears players are unable to farm low-level instances for artifacts now, we've listed all the possible bosses that drop them.
You will need
Darkmoon Adventurer's Guide
in your inventory to be eligible to loot these artifacts. It can be obtained by talking to
at the Faire or
Darkmoon Faire Greeter
Darkmoon Faire Greeter
outside the portal.
As a maximum of 145 tickets can be acquired per month, and 80 of these tickets come from item turn-ins, this is definitely something you want to farm if you're after mounts, pets, or look-alike heirloom gear.
You can continue to loot duplicate artifacts if you already have one in your inventory. However, you cannot turn in duplicate artifacts in the same month.
Artifacts drop from specific areas--certain types of bosses (humanoids, reptiles, casters, etc), raids, or from enemies in PvP.
Several PvP artifacts appear to be bugged and cannot be redeemed at the Faire this month. T
Happy New Year's Eve
2011/12/31 at 7:57 AM
Just a quick reminder that New Year's Eve is today and World of Warcraft has its usual celebration going down in Booty Bay! Make sure to check it out if you like fireworks and want to ring in 2012 in-game.
Merry New Year! The celebration begins at 6:00 a.m. Realm-Time December 31 with fireworks in the skies above the cities, and repeats every hour on the hour. Feel free to sample some of the exotic brews and libations carted in from around the world, and dance in celebration as a new year dawns. If you're on a PvP realm you're cautioned to steer clear of Booty Bay (or potentially visit with haste) as the guards there appear to have had too much fun already and aren't likely to be enforcing the town rules until morning.
Happy Holidays From Wowhead
2011/12/24 at 9:13 AM
It's that time of year again. Since we've already got
a great giveaway going on
a huge Winter Veil guide up
, we've decided to add to the merriment with a Noxy wallpaper! Every year we release one for Wowhead and 2011 is no different!
Furthermore, as we here at Wowhead enjoy our vacation, please join us in wishing everyone a happy holidays. 2011 was a great year for the website and none of it would happen without you guys; your constant support, patronage, and use of the database means a lot to us. Thanks everyone for visiting and being part of the Wowhead tradition.
And hey, enjoy the wallpaper!
Portuguese (Brazilian) Wowhead Now Live
2011/12/21 at 3:23 PM
Ever since Blizzard introduced a
Portuguese version of WoW for 4.3
, our users have been clamoring for a Portuguese version of Wowhead.
We're listened to your feedback over the past few weeks--and are pleased to announce the release of
Portuguese (Brazilian) Wowhead
, just in time for the holidays. Currently, the basic framework of the main site is translated and functional, with brackets indicating what data still requires translation. Simply access this version of Wowhead by going to the top-right corner of the page and selecting the option from the language drop-down menu.
We plan to be adding more translated material to the website in the upcoming few weeks--and if we require additional volunteers for localization work, we'll update our needs at our
