Transmogrification, Part 5: Grey and Starter Look-Alike Gear
2011/12/18 at 10:05 AM
If you've ever wanted to transmog your Shaman's gear into the Twill Set, you're in luck! Today's guide rounds up transmogrifiable armor that resembles BoE greys and starter gear--armor that looks neat but can't be transmogged.
Players are not allowed to transmog their gear into uncommon/common-quality items--this means items like vendor trash, starter gear, and holiday rewards are out. However, there's numerous greens that share the same models--some are pretty stylish! Remember, you can mouseover the transmog sets to see what they look like. (Note: some cloth sets may display a robe instead of the relevant shirt.)
Check out the other guides to Transmogrification:
Transmogrification: Tier Armor
covers all class-specific tier sets--both PvE and PvP.
Transmogrification: Matching Greens
covers all green-quality BoE sets.
Transmogrification: Unique Armor
covers unique armor, distinctive weapons, and item sets

Battle.Net BattleTags and Blizzard Support Site Redesign
2011/12/15 at 3:47 PM
It's been a slow news day, but two items cropped on my list.
First of all, it looks like Real ID is getting some real company--Battle.net BattleTags! These will function just like Real ID has, only with a nickname instead of your real life monicker. This will allow players have cross game (and server!) communication without having to shout from the hilltops their real life name. It's coming first to Diablo III, but it will also be coming to StarCraft II and World of Warcraft.
The second news item was that the customer service support website got some new digs to provide players with a better experience and more satisfaction.
Battle.net BattleTag FAQ
What is a Battle.net BattleTag?
A BattleTag is a unified, player-chosen nickname that will identify you across all of Battle.net – in Blizzard Entertainment games, on our websites, and in our community forums. Similar to Real ID, BattleTags will give players on Battle.net a new way to find and chat with friends they've met in-game, form friendships, form groups, and stay connected across multiple Blizzard Entertainment games. BattleTags will also

--wait, what? Is that a new type of present we've found in the database? That's right, like many holidays as of late, Blizzard's changed the classic Winter's Veil into their new format featuring a daily queue and some new prizes. There's also a new holiday gift waiting for you under this year's tree, so this is one holiday you don't want to miss!
World of Warcraft's version of Christmas has been more or less the same for several years now minus the unique gift every year is known for. This year it has been changed fairly significantly so before we get started with the guide, we'd like to get these out of the way.
If you've done the holiday in the past, you've likely saved

a few times from a band of intrepid Iron Dwarves who kidnapped him or a group of marauding pirates in Tanaris depending on your faction. This year, however, he's become kidnapped by
The Abominable Greench
who decided to upgrade from past year's petty larceny to kidnapping everyone's favorite Bl

Star Wars: The Old Republic Early Launch
2011/12/13 at 2:24 AM
For many MMORPG fans, the excitement is boiling over as the last few hours until early access to Star Wars: The Old Republic opens up. Wowhead will be quiet about it--after a quick reminder you should check out
for all your database needs. It's literally the same team with the same level of commitment to both the game and the website.
We wrote up a more in-depth post about our mission statement a couple of weeks ago
In addition, volunteer Siha put together a great guide from a World of Warcraft guru's perspective. So if you're looking for a guide that tells you what this game is like on WoW's terms,
this is an excellent guide for you
With that out of the way, this was the last SWTOR update.
Well, maybe until we do a joint contest with our sister site or other shenanigans!
Hotfixes (December 6th - 12th)
2011/12/12 at 9:22 PM
This is major--huge heroic nerfs are coming for tomorrow's clear (we earlier said right now, but Blizzard updated me on this). As someone who has just put 150+ wipes into heroic Yor'sahj 25-man and had a 900,000 wipe a few seconds ago, I can say this is actually a good thing. He's a really frustrating fight as well as much easier in 10-man comparatively, so hotfixes will help tune it better.

Pounce should now apply its Bleed to targets beyond its normal range when used with the Glyph of Pounce.

The Mass Regeneration effect from the druid tier 13 bonus now heals 25% of the healing received by the druid from Frenzied Regeneration, down from 50%. The tooltip will be updated in a later patch.

Holy Radiance should now stack properly with other paladins' Holy Radiance, with all valid targets nearby being properly healed.

Bladestorm will now properly apply its immunities to spell effects that are in flight when Bladestorm is activated.
Nimble Fingers: A Guide to Acquiring Fangs of the Father
2011/12/11 at 1:19 PM
Rogues get a new legendary set in 4.3--perhaps to deal with all the melee balance problems in Firelands! Like the means of acquiring
Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest
, rogues will obtain this legendary through a series of quests interspersed with looting items from raid encounters. While completing the entire quest series does require a raid, there's a ton of great solo content at the start, such as exciting high-stakes stealth missions.
For background: check out the quest series in Badlands covering Rheastrasza, the ambitious red dragon who acquired a black dragon egg and magically purified it, cleansing it of the Black Dragonflight’s corruption. This questline covers the fate of the purified egg and introduces the enigmatic Black Prince, Wrathion--in a storyline taking the enterprising rogue to Dragon Soul, Karazhan, Ravenholdt Manor, and much more in the process.
In this guide, I've provided a list of all the quests--their objectives, dialogue descriptions, and relevant notes and tips to help you get through each step faster! Maybe you've got a fresh 85 rogue alt and are wondering how far you can get with solo questing, or raid only a semi-regular basis and want to know how long each raiding step will take.

News Round Up: Loot Finder Issues and Blizz Blues
2011/12/08 at 8:22 PM
Loot Finder Rules
So, just to be clear, we're certainly aware that the loot system in Raid Finder needs to be smarter, as there's currently not a way for the system to determine loot eligibility based on talent specialization or class. To use the OP's example, if a Strength weapon drops and a hunter rolls on it, the system says "Yep, a DPS player is rolling on it. Okie dokie. Here's your +100." (We should really find ways for the game to say "okie dokie" in your chat log.)
This obviously needs to change and we're in the middle of discussing potential short-term solutions, as a more long-term solution will require programming new tech into the system which will account for class/spec.
We only ask that you keep in mind patch 4.3 is our first implementation of Raid Finder and the "Need Plus" system. The design is quite complicated and requires further iteration to make loot distribution more intelligent.
One thing I'd love to see addressed is for exampl
Dev Watercooler: Seeing the Forest for the Talent Trees
2011/12/08 at 11:19 AM
Following the release of the updated Mists of Pandaria talent calculator yesterday, Ghostcrawler explains some of the changes in today's Dev Watercooler. Without sugarcoating things, he talks about why the old talent system was fundamentally flawed and addresses player concerns like how it seems the new system presents fewer choices or emphasizes PvP abilities.
class="detail">
We’ve gotten a lot of feedback on our crazy, exciting, and scary talent overhaul, for which we are enormously appreciative. For real and for true. We *want* your feedback on the new talents. That is why we are presenting so much detail so early. While we will continue to iterate on talent specifics, your feedback is an important part of that process. Don’t abstain because you’re convinced that things will change without you. Your input is one of our most important tools for improving the game.

We have seen a few consistent responses from players concerned or dismissive about the model, so we thought we’d take the opportunity to explain the philosophy behind some of our decisions, to provide a
Mists of Pandaria Talent Calculator Updated
2011/12/07 at 5:28 PM
A new version of the Mists of Pandaria Talent Calculator went live today. While some talents and specializations simply moved places or changed names, there are some fun new abilities--priests can turn invisible now and mages finally got some new level 90 talents! Also, keep in mind that not all classes are complete or have been updated, like hunters and rogues.
We'll have our calculator here at Wowhead updated shortly, but in the meantime, take a look at some of the highlights!
We trust you’ve all had ample time to plug away on the Mists of Pandaria Talent Calculator. You may have even found a few mind-bottling class changes in the works (you know, when things are so crazy it gets your thoughts all trapped, like in a bottle?).

To that end, we’re pleased to announce we’ve just released an update to the calculator! In addition to bug fixes, we've made s
News Roundup and Hotfixes: December 6th
2011/12/06 at 11:00 PM
Today's hotfixes cover Dragon Soul nerfs, some item changes (Heart of the Unliving trinkets receiving a passive intellect bonus, 4-piece Holy Paladin Tier 13 nerfed, etc), and transmogrification fixes for mailed items--level 1 alts can no longer run around in heirlooms transmogged to look like fun raiding gear, for example. Also in the roundup: PvP Season 11 began today and Bashiok made an awesome post explaining how many Darkmoon Faire tickets can be farmed up each month via each method of acquisition.
In addition to the documented Dragon Soul changes, many raiding guids began Dragon Soul hardmodes today and are reporting undocumented hotfixes as well between pulls.
Hotfixes: December 6

Transmogrified items should always lose their transmogrification when mailed.

The Darkmoon Firework no longer has a duration, is now holiday-bound, and requires Darkmoon Faire to be active.

Darkmoon Faire revelers who enter an off-limits area in ghost form should now be properly ported out.

Entangling Roots, Freeze, and Frost Nova should now properly break when the affected player takes damag
