Obtained via trading in an Ancestral Phoenix Egg (which is obtained via challenge mode dungeon achievement: Challenge Conqueror: Silver).

Other colors you can also choose from are Ashen , Emerald and Crimson.

At the moment it looks like it's only possible to pick one color, so choose wisely!

The Pandaren Phoenixes are designed after the Chinese phoenix, also known as the Fenghuang (wikipedia). The most striking features of the bird are its peacock tail, crane legs, and feathers of multiple colours (black, white, red, blue, yellow).

It's a shame they didn't go with the three-legged version though; now that would be a unique mount.

While WoWhead says these are "account wide mounts" they are actually NOT account wide. You can get one color on each character that completes the achievement, but you will not be able to have all colors on any character.

This mount seemed very beautiful at a fist sight, the model and the colors just remembered me a wonderful peacock.
Sadly I don't really like those kind of biologic spherical things behind their heads :(

The mount you purchase with the egg will be returnable for 2 hours so as long as you don't learn the mount you will be able to pick a different color.

Considering that Challenge Modes are becoming a Feat of Strength and being removed (atleast the MoP ones), does anyone know if this will mean that the mounts will become Account Wide? Or will they stay bound to the Character that completed the CMs?

Blizzard notification on the Phoenix mounts come WoD:

"The Pandaren Phoenix mounts awarded for a full set of Silver medals will become account-wide. If any character on an account has earned a full set of Silver medals, all four variants of the Pandaren Phoenix (Crimson, Ashen, Violet, and Emerald) will become available to all characters account-wide."

If you're a shadowpriest in shadow form, the colors on this mount become so much more rich. I have the glpyh to make shadow form less dark, and even with that the purple on this mount becomes so striking. Truly beautiful :)

Come WoD, you can purchase all Phoenixes that you do NOT have for 1k each, providing that you can purchase them.
