As of Build 15913 you have a chance to get some of these Shards when you prospect ore from Pandaria.

I was getting 1-2 of these per 5 of Ghost Iron ore i prospected.

I was getting 1-3 of these per 5 of ghost iron ore I prospected last night. Though I could have sworn I read they were only supposed to come from prospecting the two Trillium ores.

The funny thing about these is that you can, at least on my server, sell them for more than the Serpent's Eye you can can create with (stack of 10 for 20g when the Serpent's Eye sell for 2~5g). I'm still wondering why: am I stupid and didn't see a hidden use ?

You always get at least 1 of these from both Trillium ores and Kyparite. Ghost Iron ore has approximately 80% chance to drop. Great way to make Serpents Eyes, which if you don't know are Pandarias high level gems that only Jewelcrafters can use. You can also buy serpents eyes from the vendor in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. Apart from Serpents Eyes, these are useless. So when your gear is all gemmed up, these are useless too.
