Fished this off the coast of Darkmoon Faire isle (Darkmoon Boardwalk to be exact). Second cast and received this little rare companion. It is surrounded by a bubble called "Water Bubble." The animation looks like Watery Grave from the Morogrim Tidewalker encounter. It is in the bubble both underwater and on land.

This non combat pet is caught around the waters surrounding Darkmoon Island.

Access to the Darkmoon Island is proportionate with the Darkmoon Faire which means you can only access it once per month when the event is ongoing.

To get to the island, you can take the portal from either Elwynn Forest or Mulgore by speaking with the NPCs from the Darkmoon Faire during the event. Much of the island is a Contested territory with the exception of the Faire grounds, the Boardwalk which is a Sanctuary. There you can fish safely even if you're a low level.

As well in the next expansion with the introduction of non combat pet battles, this could put out Lil' Ragnaros easily I'm sure.

Anyone still going for One That Didn't Get Away, you can also be lucky and fish one up while going for this companion. Just had a guildie fish up Steelscale Crushfish on one of his first casts. 2 birds and 1 stone or something...

It has a different baby-like model of a sea horse mount rather than just being a directly shrunk down version of the existing model.

A lot of people on here are saying they got the Sea Pony under 100 casts. Not everyone is THAT lucky :/ Don't go start fishing for this thinking it will take you 10 minutes. Be prepared for a long night just incase :/

Took 500+ casts for me. Just because people said it took 4 casts and they got it, don't expect your experience to be similar. This thing has just been out for a week and the drop rate is still hazy.

This pet required no fishing level to get, someone with a fishing level of 1 could get it off his first cast but it just requires alot of hope and luck in order to get it.

Most of the coastline of Darkmoon Island is contested, however the Boardwalk is a sanctuary, where the factions are not at war.
There are no hostile high-level creatures on the island, so the Sea Pony can be safely fished at lower levels.

The faire starts on every first sunday of the month.

I can confirm that any fishing skill seem to be able to get this. Also I was level 60 when I fished mine up, skill level 358. I went up a lot of skill levels however in the process because this thing took me a while to get, at least four hours and a good 500 or so fish in my bags when I was done.

I can confirm as well that Steelscale Crushfish can be fished from Darkmoon Island. I got it in the process.

You can get this companion by fishing in the pool of shipwreck debris along the shores of the island. Just have to be careful if your on a pvp server. It was on my second cast that I got this companion and another sealed crate from one of these pools today.

My fishing skill was only at 40 too. So you don't need your fishing skill to be high at all. I wasn't expecting to get this little guy. It was awesome.

I used a normal fishing pole and I didn't use any lures.

I fished 5-8 shipwreck debris pretty quickly in one run along the shore, if nobody else is fishing them.

So I am out there farming for the pet, thinking I got the worst luck for drops so I will be out here for a bit, I was fishing from the pools and the sea turtle mount dropped! I about jumped out my seat, since I have farmed for this mount for a long time, but finally gave up on it..and tonight was just my lucky night without evening trying for it :D well off to farm for the pet some more...:D but thought I would share and let you know you can get the mount to drop from the pools!

Hi, all. I actually caught the Sea Pony today in a pool of Shipwreck Debris around Darkmoon Island rather than from open water. I had the quest for the Great Sea Herring, and I caught a Sealed Crate, a Great Sea Herring, and the Sea Pony all in one cast.

It can apparently be caught in Shipwreck Debris around Darkmoon Island as well as in open water.

Edit: I've added a screenshot showing the loot--Sealed Crate, Sea Pony, and Great Sea Herring--that I got from the Shipwreck Debris. I just got the Sea Pony from Shipwreck Debris on a second character, too. It does drop from there!

You can start fishing for this even if your fishing skill is at 0.
To get training and get fishing supplies you don't have to leave Darkmoon Island. There is a trainer and a vendor with fishing supplies on the dock.

After your fishing gets to skill level 75, the quest Spoilin' for Salty Sea Dogs will become available at the faire.
Also, if your fishing skill starts at zero and you have to fish for a good while, you can get the following achievements:
25 Fish, 50 Fish, 100 Fish, 250 Fish, 500 Fish, 1000 Fish, Journeyman Fisherman, Expert Fisherman, Artisian Fisherman, Master Fisherman, Grand Master Fisherman, and Illustrious Grand Master Fisherman.

Was grinding it on my main, as well as several higher level alts for hours upon hours.. and nothing.

Later wanted to do some DMF stuff on my lvl 24 mage and on a whim thought of taking up fishing. Got this cute little bastard as I hit 133 fishing skill ^__^''' Straight from normal waters at the sanctuary.

If there is no one around and you are high enough level I'd recommend going for the pools though... You can get quite a lot of goods/gold to go with this bubble fella :P

So, you can fish for the Sea Pony, get One That Didn't Get Away achievement (which I acquired early on in my fishing marathon by catching Steelscale Crushfish), low level Alchemists can also farm for Oily Blackmouth and Firefin Snapper and low level Engineers can find things like Bronze Tube and Heavy Blasting Powder in the crates that are fished up every so often, Rogues and Blacksmiths can also pick the locks of Small Locked Chest, which can get fished up. Tailors should look out for a Message in a Bottle, I fished one up and there was Pattern: Phoenix Gloves inside. The Sealed Crate from the Shipwreck Debris contains stuff like Embersilk Cloth, Obsidium Ore, Darkmoon Firewater, Twilight Jasmine, food and silver. Seems everyone's a winner!

As for the Sea Pony, took me around 2 1/2 hours of more or less constant fishing to catch it. I have max level fishing with lures attached to my pole. Obviously fishing lvl has nothing to do with it, just luck.

My initial attempts at getting this last month were around 340 casts with no pony, I just logged on to try my luck around 50 yards to the left of Teleportist Fozlebub and I got my Sea Pony! It took me 17 casts and one of those was the Steelscale Crushfish!

Finally some good luck came my way, good luck to everyone else out there trying to get it! Don't lose hope!

~Also, last month I fished around 50 crates and not one held the sea pony so I think you are better off just fishing in the open water rather than going for the crates unless you want the ores / Darkmoon Firewater :)

Managed to get this guy with level 68 fishing skill. (Picture) Seems there is no level requirement for fishing this guy up.
Easiest place to fish for him is south docks. It seems it's all up to your luck, so good luck getting your Sea Pony!

I fished around twenty casts off the pier before I swam out to the cave underneath the shipwreck on the eastern side of the island. I caught mine on the first cast there.

No idea if these two are actually related in any way, but it's at least worth trying.

So, I just logged onto my daughter's new lvl 9 F2P hunter to farm her a lil starter gold from the Darkmoon Island Shipwreck Debris pool Sealed Crates.

Trained her Fishing skill 1 and bought her a lvl 1 Fishing Pole on the South pier and headed East. Found a pool at the small pier just past the main one. I noob misloot the 1st cast because her autoloot wasn't on. :p 2nd cast this Sea Pony drops! I'm like "Oh, Hell No!"

Looks like it's just a .5% drop so not too rare, but a post worthy fishing skill 2 drop even though fishing in pools no longer requires skill.

FYI these drop in the fishing loot along side the crates, not inside them.

I left it in her bags as a surprise so she can use/learn it herself. She will love it!

Fish for hours, everyday of the fair. I think the drop rate was much higher at first but Blizz lowered it because it seemed to me like everyone was getting one. Same with the drops for the quest items for tickets.

I fished this up yesterday in maybe 1.5 hours. Today I was looking at my achievment for companions and it appears that I did not get credit toward the Littlest Pet Shop achievment. I had 130 companions before I took a one month break from wow and after catching this one I still have 130. I'm going to open a ticket. I'll post later.

after I started fishing in wrecks (wreckages, or how they are called), seeing that they drop very nice thingies( lots of leather and cloth) I somehow got this little bugger, and yes, from a Sealed Crate. So there goes the Myth that it "doesn't drop from crates". Good luck to u guys

Caught this in 7 casts. I fished off the dock launch in the Darkmoon Boardwalk area. First two casts were into a Shipwreck Debris pool that was right there, then fished it up in open water thereafter.

I hadn't been intentionally looking for this pet, but I was fishing in a lot of Shipwreck Debris for crates and never saw this. The Debris pools and open water don't have any greater chance over the other for this pet to drop so don't waste your time running around looking for Shipwreck Debris pools. Just fish off the dock.

Caught it on my first cast of the evening (early morning hours), 76 fishing ability (just got it high enough to get the +5 fishing quest). I was at the far end of the beach, having just checked for floating wreckage all the way down the coast. I was stunned, since pets aren't my thing but I know this one is prized.

No clue what determines how, when or why it drops.

can be fished up everywhere in the waters near darkmoon faire inclusing shipwreck debris as an illustrious grandmaster with full fishing gear took me 30 casts but i was unlucky i have seen 100 skill ppl without elite fishing gear taking it with 10 casts its all about luck but its easy to get so just keep at it its rly worth the while :D

I got this little guy completely by accident while fishing for the Darkmoon fishing quest. I had finished with the quest but I found I was getting neat fish so I kept casting for a bit - about 20 casts in, this guy popped up. I linked him in chat and (like a dullard) mentioned I got him in 20ish casts.

Needless to say I was not well liked, for a time.

Edit: I think people are just going through and downvoting everyone that got it in less than 100 casts. I acknowledged in another post that there are people in my guild that have gone hours and hours without seeing one. I just got lucky.

It is possible to get a Sea Pony, a Sealed crate and a herrring in one cast. Just did it. So fish the crate pools when they come up, it doesn't hurt your pony chances.

After 1,366 casts, 450 levels of fishing, and constantly moving all over Darkmoon Isle, I can proudly say I caught my own little Sea Pony.
It seems it doesn't matter where you fish or what level you fish at all, just comes down to good ole RNG.
The Sea Pony has a little bubble around it that enables it to fly with you on your flying mount, even at 310% speed.

It took me about 150 casts, 140 of them in open water till I decided to give the shipwreck pools a try. No one was there so the coasts were pretty empty and all the pools untouched. I finally found the sea pony in one of the pools, along with a crate containing four elementium ore.

I dont believe fishing lvl helps with this catch which makes it way harder to catch and the chances are against you theoretically you can get this in 1k cast but then again its 0.1% a cast so Good luck ive casted about 2k times over all my toons nothing but those albacore.

I can confirm that it can in fact be fished up from shipwreck debris, as I got one today. My goal wasn't even to try and catch one, as it seemed to have taken forever to get with my main, but rather, to focus on the crates. To my surprise, it came up with a crate in the loot window. After a while of fishing up nothing but crates, this caught me totally off guard, and made me happy. What made me even happier is when I somehow pulled up a sea turtle mount with another crate, not even a half hour later! So, I know now it's possible to get both from the shipwreck debris, and hopefully those pursuing either one get theirs as well, and in a timely manner. Remember though, it may take a bit of time, like it did with my my main. It can vary quite a bit. Good luck!

I have got to say that out of all the farmable companions, this one has got to be by far the easiest and, in my opinion, greatest. Managed to acquire mine in under 4 minutes just fishing quietly in a little nook all by my lonesome.

Skill doesn't come into play, apparently. I am at 525 with Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat (+5 fishing skill) and an Aquadynamic Fish Attractor (+100 fishing skill) and it took me 85 casts - about 25 minutes to catch it. Be on the lookout for wreckages as they can yield some nice loot. I got three while fishing. They contained Pyrite Ore, Embersilk Cloth (12 in one drop!), usually 7-10 silver, Darkmoon Special Reserve, Darkmoon Firewater, 2 Mythical Healing Potions, and Darkmoon Dogs. A wreckage respawned in the same location each time while I was fishing. I did not catch it in a wreckage. (See my screenshot for location).

Confirmed, underwater cave (74, 42) - you have to swim out a bit until the shelf dips down (head towards the ship wrecked/sunken boat) and there's an opening underwater.

Note: Although Darkmoon Faire area is a sanctuary, this cave does not count as a sanctuary - you will be PvP flagged & fair game if you come out of a battle ground & are in the cave.

Yesterday I caught this pet on my druid who was doing the fishing skill up quest in Darkmoon Faire (off the Pier near the portals) - 1st cast.

On my hunter, I had been trying for awhile to get it (over an hour of fishing w/ maxed fishing skill), so I took the coords & got it on the 15th cast in this specified cave. TY to whomever listed the coords & advised the cave would be a good place.

After note: my boyfriend standing next to me fishing in the same cave on the same session also fished the pet up about 10 minutes after me (he says approximately 50 casts - @ 474 fishing level).

Wowhead's data suggests that the drop rate is ~0.5%. So assuming this data is correct, your overall chance of getting at least one within the next:

- 5 casts (2min): 2% (Really Lucky)
- 20 casts (6min): 10% (Lucky)
- 50 casts (15min): 22% (Somewhat lucky)
- 100 casts (30min): 39% (Slightly lucky)
- 200 casts (1h): 63% (Typical)
- 400 casts (2h): 87% (Somewhat unlucky)
- 600 casts (3h): 95% (Unlucky)
- 1000 casts (5h): 99.3% (Really Unlucky)
- 2000 casts (10h): 99.996% (Extremely unlucky)
- 3000 casts (15h): 99.99997% (Extraordinarily unlucky: fewer than a dozen of all WoW players would fail to get the pet within this many casts.)

The time taken are estimates assuming you're fishing for the entire duration. Also, here's a little tip: if you've already cast 100 times your chance of getting the pet within the next 100 casts is still 39%.

The comments on this page are not an accurate representation of how many casts you'd expect to get it, though. There's also some post hoc ergo propter hoc going on in the comments.

Alright, I had a little trouble with this pet but I finally got it.
I was fishing generally in darkmoon for one of the quests there and I thought I'd give it a crack, 200+ casts and nothing really apart from some brass framework and some fish and then I read that there was a cave where people had better luck.
Had a gander and I really was expecting a long wait (I have such awful luck) but about 4th cast in whilst being inside the cave, there it was.

So there you go, I really do think being in the cave is actually helpful. Luckily I did it at stupid'O'Clock so nobody was there, but yes, I'd recommend going there just to give it a try. :)

Also, the cave is underneath some ship wreckage about halfway up the east coast. Took me a little while to find cause I'm an idiot and didn't bother actually checking for it's location!

Got it on my 3rd or 4th crate at Darkmoon - insanely lucky with this I know - Fishing skill was about 330, no lures, but had the Kaluak pole. Also, it was at the 73.9, 42.9 location.

The underwater cave at 74,42 was where I got my Sea Pony in less than 40 casts. I tried a few other places on the island then read about the cave here and swam out. My Rarity add-on shows me at 76 attempts, but I was at about 30-35 before heading to the cave. Thanks for the info about the cave!

Got it from a ship wreckage pool :)

I recommend fishing from those pools if you can. It's not as boring and you can make some gold while you grind the sea pony. A good time to do it is early morning when less people are on. You can find them all along the west shore of the island, south, and the lower east shore. It took me around 2 hours ~_~

It doesn't matter how high your fishing skill is; the drop all depends on luck.

Took 88 casts at fishing level 525, using Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole and Weatherbeaten Fishing Hat.

218 casts from the beach at the Darkmoon Boardwalk.

The "ramps" leading down to the water were crowded, so I moved down the beach to the left, toward the landing circle from the cannon shot. I had a fishing hat lure equipped at the time, don't know if it made any difference.

I farmed for this in the underwater cave located in the eastern shore of Darkmoon Island. There are reports that the drop rate there is a little higher (quoted from El's Extreme Anglin' website).
The cave is underwater, just like in Vashj'ir. To get there, go to that V-shaped part of the eastern coast of the island (73,32 for those with coordinates). Underwater, there is a sunk ship. Just under it is the entrance to this cave, exactly on the brink of the "Fatigue" area. I will try to post a Screenshot a little later.
While farming, I was completely alone the whole time.

My farming statistics over there:
132 Raw Rainbow Fin Albacore
53 Oily Blackmouth
24 Firefin Snapper
01 waterlogged crate, which gave me 01 Heavy Blasting Powder
02 Sealed Crate, that gave me assorted items

Total: 215 catches, besides some small-time farming I did before today.

I also confirm that the underwater cave is the best way to fish the sea pony. It seems to have a higher drop rate there. I've fished for several weeks of the faire events and never caught it. I just went there and got in in about 40 casts. I just submitted a screenshot of the location, and it is pending approval.

Location

In the meantime, the best way to describe how to find the cave (as it's not shown on the wow map), is to look under the Darkmoon Faire title of the map and just below it, there are 2 little islands on the top east. About 1/2 real life inches to the south east of the bottom-most island is the shipwreck under the water. The ocean shelf line looks like a < (sideways V) and don't get it confused with the actual boundaries of the land

Tips

Fastest way to get there with least amount of swimming is starting at the Darkmoon Faire entrance, take a left at the arrow sign on the tree that says "Ignore the Eyes That Blink and Stare." There's a little pathway down the mountain and straight to the sea.

Swim there and go down a little bit and you'll see the entrance to the Vashjir-like cave. Hug the ocean wall to avoid fatigue but you may only see fatigue for about 5 seconds anyway. Don't worry, you won't die since it's only a short distance. Once inside the cave, you can regain your breath and fish as usual. You can't use any repair mounts there and the dry land part of the cave seems to be mixed with the water. Though you can cast your line into the dry land, you won't be able to see your bauble to click it.

Seriously though. Spent half hour in said underwater cave, getting naff all.
I know people say it's a higher drop rate, but I dont believe it. RNG overrules all.
Dropped after less then 10 minutes ont he harbour. my fishing is only at about 200, too.

Max fishing + Kaluak fishing pole + Fishing hat. I went to the underwater cave and attempted to fish for four hours. Never got the pet. I have a feeling the reports of the location's drop rate may just be a myth.

I got my 10th sea pony today on my last alt using the underwater cave method in about 60 casts. I'm not sure what other people are doing wrong but it may have something to do with how populated the zone/realm is.

I have max fishing and an enhanced fishing pole for 525+30 fishing. I didn't use any lures or enhanced baubles at all.

I am starting to think that some people are just downvoting comments to keep people confused on what works. I guess the less people fishing in the cave the better your chances but don't downvote just to keep the method a secret. That's just childish. Just come back at another time when it's less populated.

Friend and I, on relatively brand new toons - L11 - went to the cave to fish. Starting from zero fishing skill.

I don't know his complete loot list, but I got

14 raw rainbow fin albacore
13 oily blackmouth
1 firefin snapper

14 tattered sail
11 tangled string
9 empty rum bottles
8 driftwood
4 empty clams
3 withered kelp

Which is slightly over 75. Because I stopped at 75, ahead of him and two casts later, his level 73 brought up the pony.

*facepalm*

I tried a few more, and then gave up. Fished off the pier for the monthly quest, all the way through till my skill was 100 (which was well past the 100 fish achievement). No pony.

ETA: I submitted 3-4 screenshots, of the inside of the cave and of the worldmap showing where you are when you're standing on it. As far as I can tell they've not been approved yet, but I don't know how long to wait.

I had an unusually lucky stroke of RNG luck and got this on my first cast.

I don't know if this made a difference or not, but I fished this beauty up near the fishing gnome that teleports you back to the cannon while doing the fishing profession quest.

You can still fish this when the event is over if you stay on the island after 11:59pm on Saturday.

Even though all NPCs will be gone and floating debris no longer spawn.

Indeed, you can fish up this little beauty around the edge of the Darkmoon Fair. The safest place is under the docks, as it seems that the opposite fraction has taken up the habit of ganking fishers.

You -dont- have to fish in wreckage pools, just drop your bobber anywhere and hope for the best.

It took me around 500 casts......

I caught the Sea Pony on my ~200 try.

Just so you know,

-You can pretty much try catching the Pony anywhere in the vicinity of Darkmoon Faire.
-You can have level 1 fishing and be level 1.
-Expect to try +200 times, even if some people say they caught it on their first few tries. These cases are rare, but they do happen.

The reported drop rate here on wowhead seems to be around 0.5% but according to El's Anglin it's around 0.1%. What is the correct drop rate on this?

I'm over 700 casts myself and with a 0.5% drop chance more than 97% of the people would have gotten it. Either the drop rate reported isn't correct or I'm just very unlucky.

My girlfriend started fishing on a rock a little way off the pier, she caught it within 5 mins so i headed over and got it in one cast! We didnt even know about it until she caught it and it was the first character i have levelled fishing on which i trained that same day :) guess we just got lucky.

In the Underwater Cave for over an hour. And while I was there, two people came in and left. I know one got the Sea Pony because he told me. Not sure about the other. That was about 160 casts in.

First time trying to fish this beastly bubble of adorable and found it to be more than a few casts.

I first tried the underwater cave that was being praised and after fishing there for 45 minutes or so, I decided to try fishing the shipping debris pools around the island. I fished in about 6 of them before resting on the floating dock to the southwest of the boardwalk, and cast my line out approximately 30 times in that area before finally picking it up. Note though, I probably cast out about 160 times and in 1.5 - 2hrs. total. Glad that is over with!

I just fished mine up by the little gnome that ports you back to the cannon. Had a total of 27 rainbowfin albacore, 10 oily blackmouth and one firefin snapper. Started fishing on the dock then for some random reason jumped down and went to the gnome guy and only did about 10 casts there and then POOF there he was! Couldn't believe my luck. Course the friend I had sitting beside me fishing for it too wanted to kill me, but he's all mine :-). Such a cute little pet.

-I fished this companion up in open water (NOT a fishing hole) next to the NPC "Teleportologist Fuzlebub" who is standing on the beach east of the boardwalk in the Darkmoon Faire zone.
-I had to dedicate about 4 hours in 3 sittings to obtain this catch, although for a rare catch like this I would expect to spend about that much time if not more.
-I had 525+110/525 fishing skill with and . Level 85. 8390 Achievement Points.
-Even though everything I've said in this post has been posted in one from or another in multiple other posts, I wanted to try to state as simply as possible, where and how long it took, and what to expect realistically.

Trying to get my one Sea Pony.

I started out with 25 skills in fishing and ended up with 275 skills in fishing .
I used 3 shiny bobles, 2 aquadynamic fishing attractors, 6 bright baubles.

Fished off the docks at darkmoon faire, got my sea pony after about 350 casts. it was a nice break from farming sprite darters for 2 weeks. Good luck! P.s. you don't need to fish in the debris to get it, the water works just fine. you also don't need to use any baubles or anything like that, it'd be a waste of money as i bought a bunch and got the companion after it had faded.

After catching some low level fish (oily blackmouth, etc.), I got it on about the 10th cast! I was soooo excited. Made pet number 124 for my main. :)

If you like opening containers and receiving a ton of random items, then I suggest you try to fish this little guy out of junk pools (which are located all around the entire island).

Having problems reaching some? If you are not a Death Knight with Path of Frost, a Priest with Levitate, or a Shaman with Water Walking (or can't bum a friend for these) use a water walking potion or any other method to walk on water in order to fish the junk that is slightly unreachable from land. I noticed that only a few people were going after these, since they were out of the way.

If you are on a populated server (like I am) I highly recommend skipping the junk and just fishing on the boardwalk. After spending the night fighting over junk piles (and having a few stolen from me) I gave up and fished at the boardwalk instead. About 15 or so casts later, I had the little guy. It saves you plenty of time too, since there are hardly any junk piles, and they tend to be fairly spread out. Good luck! (:

FYI, didn't cast in the nodes that pop up or fish in any odd locations. Just stood on the ramp to the right of the portals, didn't use lures/fishing clothing. The little guy was caught along with another fish, and was not in a box...

Heehee finally got it! been trying for ever it seems. The best way to fish for this little cutie is to stay in one spot.
I was on the little dock.It did not come from the junk. I found that when I ran from fishing pool to pool that it was a wasted effort.(2 days on and off doing this). I decided to bring a good book and a a few drinks from the faire.then after about 40 or so casts there it was....tears -sniff-sob...soo happy now. =))

Got my Sea Pony on my 52nd cast. Such a cute little companion, feel very lucky!

Would recommend using Elixir of Water Walking when doing this.
Use a mount to run around on the water around the sides of the main beach, as there are pool spawns there too that most people never pick up on.
Make sure you have Find Fish turned on.

Some simple, fairly obvious things that will surely help you get this companion. Make sure you're doing it early in the morning or late at night, as people tend to farm these pools constantly during the day.

Got this today! Very pleased! I had tried both from wreckage along the island and from the dock in open water. Dropped for me in open water. My advice would be to hold out and keep fishing off the docks - but then I found running around looking for wreckage very annoying! Good luck all!

I got mine today at 43,90 after 304 total casts (I got the pony with an albacore). I chased some Shipwrecked Debris pools around the west coast at first and eventually settled for this spot by the Boardwalk where a pool would sometimes respawn under my bobber as I was fishing there. Just got mine! Was fishing off the coast for an hour, moved up to the fisherman and got some bright baubles and moved to the dock at 52.18, 89.86. I fished for 1 minute, 4 casts later, and I got my sea pony. (along with an oily blackmout) Yay!

I had about 3 people start a good five minutes after me and fish it up well before me. I suppose since it's only open for a week every month, the drop rate isn't that bad.

I fished from the left-side ramp of the boardwalk, with max fishing.

It took me a couple hours to get. Finally got it slightly to the right of the boardwalk. Persistance is key for this one. Some people seem to have gotten lucky, but don't assume you will be one of them. If it takes a while it isn't because you are in the wrong spot, it just takes a while to get it.

This companion has really been annoying me. Almost every time when I start fishing, (and sometimes when I begin to do other things, like making a cooking fire, doing alchemy, etc) the Sea Pony will just automatically be summoned next to me. I've tried to delete it, but it won't work. Has anyone else had this problem? And is it even possible to delete a companion?

Recommend fishing the Pony on the rocks on the north end of the islands. If you fish on the West of the two rocks you have at least 3, possibly 4 debris spawn points within range of your fish finder. So fish the debris when they appear and fish open water when nothing is around. Also since you are away from the easily ran western beach of the island, most of the lazy farmers stay away leaving most of the debris spawns just for you.

I got my Sea Pony after roughly 248 casts. (Rarity was off a bit since I don't have it on the desktop.) I was just fishing in open water, but would occasionally run around and fish when I found crates. I finally just stood at (78,65) and just fished there for roughly 15 minutes before I finally got it. I didn't even realize I had until Rarity went off letting me know I had got it. LOL I am happy though. SO CUTE!

I just got mine in the hidden cave at 74,43 after roughly 40 casts, 7:30 Hydraxis. I had been farming Shipwreck Debris on and off all day and it hadn't dropped. So I decided to give the hidden cave a try. It is not on the map, hence the name "Hidden".

I just got mine today within 20 casts.
Yes, it's at the Darkmoon Faire; however, I got mine thru a Shipwreck Debris or something of the sort. (For those that don't have the Fish Book, look for randomly floating bits of debris). Not sure if you HAVE to go thru the Debris, but it could have a better chance. Not to mention free crates of stuff is nice.

Caught this little cutie on my hunter not too long ago. Took about half an hour and around 200 casts (didn't count exactly how many but I had over 150 Raw Rainbow Fin Albacore by the time I got it).

Currently fishing for it on my priest, it's been almost 50 minutes and no luck yet!

I guestimate I did about 450 casts to get my Sea Pony, and most assuredly did miss a few bobbers.

I spent the vast majority of the time on the south bank fishing in open water, and got him on the way to trying the underwater cavern while fishing a debris pool (which of course felt much less coincidental that it was)

I have fished from lvl 415 through 525 and still have not caught the pony. I have focused on the southern end of the island and at the mouth of the cave on the SE side of the island. What am I missing? Did I have to be lvl 525 to start with?

Just as an FYI, it can also be caught while you are on the quest Spoilin' for Salty Sea Dogs, as I caught it on my first cast of doing that quest along with one of the quest fish. So if you don't want to farm until your eyes bleed (like myself), you can just simply leave your farming time as the quest time.

I'm having the same problem with this companion as the below poster. Every time I equip my fishing rod and sometimes when I do other actions it automatically summons. Serious annoyance, is this a bug? Can I delete a companion?

edit: Turns out its a feature added with the addon Fishing Buddy, to summon a companion while you're fishing, you can turn this off in the addon options. I figured I'd add the solution here if anyone else was having this issue

Just got one on my death knight. I was fishing up my skill so I could do the monthly fishing quest, and when I hit 106 fishing skill, I got one just fishing off the dock the entire time. So I did it in 105 casts, more or less; I missed a few because I wasn't paying attention.

I got this while fishing from Shipwreck Debris. I fished it up together with a Sealed crate which you usually find.

Took me a while to get it and I got a bit confused by some people telling me you had to fish in the pools but I can confirm that you can just fish in the open water and get it.

The Sea Pony is a blue item and doesn't come in a box or anything like that. you just fish it up out of the water as you would any random fish. The boardwalk is probably the best place to fish as you don't get any sand up in your underpants!

After trying for days on my main, I hopped on an alt who had never touched fishing before. At level 1 fishing, I got it in a debris pool, along with a sealed crate.

I don't know if fishing in the pool helps or not, but its probably worth a shot.

Color has changed for the bubble around the Sea Pony; Pre-MoP it has a blue color bubble around it. After 5.0.4 hit, the bubble was updated to a clear bubble animation.

As of 5.0.4 the Purple Puffer pet and the Sea Pony pet from DMF have a much cleaner, 'slicker', water bubble that surrounds them. This makes these pets much easier to see inside of their bubbles, though it does seem to give them a completely new look as opposed to their old model.

Spent the better part of the day trying to fish up this bad boy. Leveled up my fishing skill 300+ points doing it too. After what I'm guessing was about six hours (non-consecutively) of fishing, I finally got my little pony :) If anyone is interested, I also got about 500 rainbow fin albacore, ~300 oily blackmouth, ~100 firefin snapper, 5 or 6 waterlogged crates, 3 sealed crates (filled wth all kinds of goodies), 2 messages in a bottle, and a partridge in a pear tree. I used the rainbow fin albacore to level up my lowbie cooking about 50 points too, so that didn't go to waste. Everything else was vendored and I'll probably never fish again unless its on a new alt for next month's DMF. Happy fishing everybody!

I promised myself I'd stay sane by only doing collecting and achievements on my main.

So, naturally, I've spent hours on my main fishing away to get this. Still haven't gotten it on my main.

My two alts that I fish on (they're on different servers and I use the fish to level cooking and do fishing to relax while watching TV) both have sea ponies.

I trained one at the Faire and caught the sea pony after I got level 75. I trained another one at the Faire, equipped a pole, put a shiny bauble on it, and caught driftwood on my first ever cast and the sea pony on my second ever cast.

Random Drop is Random.

2 Birds (Fish?) with one Stone (Rod?).

While fishing for this pet, another rare vanity item to look out for is Sea Turtle as they both can be fished up from any Darkmoon Island fishing pool, and can even be fished at up at the same time! Keep in mind, the Sea Turtle is about 3x rarer, so expect to be fishing for awhile.

Steelscale Crushfish criteria of One That Didn't Get Away is a rare fish that has been reported to have a higher drop rate in Darkmoon waters than elsewhere.

Sealed Crate can be fished in floating debris, and can contain several different kinds of cataclysm materials.

Keep in mind, no matter what you're fishing in, the Sea Pony can be fished up! Hell, you could even get a Sealed Crate, a Sea Turtle, a Steelscale Crushfish, and a Sea Pony on your first cast! (results may vary)

Correct me if I'm wrong , but in total just seven , right ? Plus , only two of them via pure fishing .

I wonder if this can still drop for a character who hasn't caught it before, but now has access to the Sea Pony due to another character on their account learning it in the past. In other words, if you have access to a Sea Pony in your Pet Journal can you catch more?

I'm just curious because they seemed to drop fairly often before the account-wide pets feature became available. I wound up with a total of 4 or 5 without ever "farming" for it across my 10+ characters that had fished around Darkmoon Isle. Anecdotal evidence is of course anecdotal, but even though I've continued to do as many of the DMF profession quests as possible on all my characters (as well as spend a bit of time doing some extra pool fishing for those nice crate contents) I haven't gotten another Pony drop, even though I now have only 1 in my Pet Journal.

I spent 3 hours fishing in various spots on the coast, no luck, not even the rare fish.
Went to the underwater cave (under the sunken ship on the eastern side of the island) and I go the pony on my first cast.

I have the worst luck farming rares of ne sort so when my Sea Pony popped up in my bag, it was quite the surprise. I spent abt 2hrs in total fishing the day I caught him & abt 5 days on n off fishing @ Darkmoon 4 the Turtle mount. I went to the hidden cave in the eastern part of Darkmoon Island just underneath the shipwreck. I saw on YouTube sum1 said that there was a higher chance of getting the lil guy from the cave opposed 2 from the docks so I went there & got him within abt 30mins! I used this video titled "The Secret Cave in the Darkmoon Faire (Sea Pony)." Not saying it isn't attainable from the docks but I, myself, got it from the hidden cave. Happy farming guys!

A little bit of clarification about drop chance. The drop rate on this item is given as 0.6%, or 6/10 of 1% (based on Wowhead tracking only). That's a statistical average of 6 successful casts per 1000 tries based on a sample size of about 886000. Translated another way, those numbers average out to 1 win per 166 tries. By default most people will interpret this as flipping a coin 166 times and somewhere in there at least one of them is bound to land right side up. That way of thinking takes the interpretation of statistical average a step too far, creating the false illusion that each time you cast unsuccessfully, you're at least getting closer to that 1 win that comes in each 166 tries.

But RNG works with a completely different kind of coin - in this case, a 166-sided coin with one side marked heads and 165 sides marked tails, and heads wins. Think of it this way: each and every time you cast, it's as if you've never cast before. On every single cast - whether it's your first, your 166th or your 166,000th - the chance that coin will come up heads is exactly the same: there's 1 way to win and 165 ways to lose. You could stand there casting 24/7 through the entire week of Darkmoon Faire and not see that coin come up heads. That's not likely, statistically speaking, but it is certainly possible.

Bottom line is, you still need to stand there and keep casting until the right number turns up, but it's misleading to expect it to happen within the remainder of those 166 tries. Realistically, it'll turn up when it turns up - could be now, an hour from now, a day from now, or never. That's precisely as true on your last cast as your first, and every cast in between. The reality is, on each and every cast there's 165 ways to lose and only 1 way to win.

When you catch the Sea Pony, it is a bind on pickup item, but as it can be used as a battle pet, you can go to your battlepet tab and find the sea pony, rightclick on one of them (You can collect up to 3) and chose the ''put in cage'' option.
This caged sea pony is not soulbound and can be sold on the AH. Pricing varies a lot. I have seen them for 2000 to 5000 gold. This is helpful for a person with more than 3 sea ponies, if you catch one after collecting 3, just cage one up and then learn the new soulbound one.

A very easy catch although it's always chance. The Darkmoon waters also seem to be a great place to gather fishing skill ups. I was getting a skill up about every third cast vs. every tenth cast in other game waters.

It's important to note that this pet will be of uncommon quality once learned. You are able to place this pet in a cage.

I wanted to share this info, I took my new main out to the fair with zero fishing.
Learned fishing and cast my line, 27 cast later I pulled out the sea pony.

So there is no required fishing level for this pet.

Got it on my 41st cast in the secret cave. Going by the other posts, it has a significantly higher drop rate here than in the general waters around the island.

Cave is underneath a ship wreck in the top right section of the map (other posts list it as '74, 42'). Drop rate still great as of patch 5.2

This little guy has an awesome ability set - Water Jet for a standard full damage attack, Tidal Wave for AoE (AND it destroys objects like those damn Clockwork Gnome turrets), Cleansing Rain for a damage buff, Surge for an ability that always goes first, Whirlpool for a delayed damage spike, Pump for a big damage attack that's hard to predict... that's basically all the best offensive Aquatic abilities. And it looks sexy. What more could you want in a battle pet?

Shipwreck Debris, when fished in, got me my Pony with 1 cast. This was after about 80 casts of regular fishing at the dock.

So look for Shipwreck Debris, which quite rarely shows up!

I did, in fact, fish up the Sea Pony in the "Secret Cave," though statistically speaking, it's debatable whether it's a more fortuitous fishing spot for this companion pet than the docks or any other part of the island. The only clear advantage is being able to fish in solitude, which, for me at least, is preferable. :) All total, in addition to the Pony, and a profession skill-up of 32, after roughly 75 minutes of fishing and 181 casts, I fished up:
-1 Sea Pony
-70 Golden Carp
-59 Reef Octopus
-45 Giant Mantis Shrimp
-6 Sealed Crates (cloth, potions, trillium ore, darkmoon food/drink)

Given the challenge / time spent acquiring assorted pet drops from raids, or the amount of energy that goes into earning champion's seals/darkmoon tickets etc. to purchase vendor-sold pets, this companion was well worth the time and effort. Adorable little guy as well. Happy casting.

I got my sea pony yesterday in the underwater cave. I leveled a toon from 330 to 430 fishing and no luck. Then I read on el's angling that lower level--around 100 give or take a few--fishers (word?) were reporting luck in just a few casts.

I then tried my second toon with level capped 75 fishing. I went to the same spot in the underground cave and caught it in less than 10 casts.

Coincidence maybe but I'm happy I tried it!

I fished about 10-15 times on the docks and then tried my luck in the underwater cave. I got it in less than 5 casts. I'm not sure if the rate is different but it sure seems like it.

OMFG- it must be a dream. I swimmed into hidden cave located in the far east of darkmoon festiwal. I have 218 fishing skill +5 fishing pool +5 fishing cap and brighting bauble. I just went fishing in this cave because i thougnt it will be a good place to farm a sea pony. Maybe an hour maybe 2 or 3. I started to fishing and after 5 minutes i dropped my beatiful sea pony companion. I'm very lucky !

Easymode farming:
Make a toon on a busy server such as Kel'Thuzad where the Sea Pony is already flooded on the AH, sell one of your redundant/duplicate/easy to replace Battle Pets, and buy the Sea Pony.
(Currently only 250g on Alliance AH).

Spent an afternoon fishing on that creepy island for my little pony. Managed to level up my fishing to zen master and sold stack after stack of fish to the guy with the creepy food stand.

Didn't manage to fish up a pony, but after all those stacks of giant mantis shrimp I now have a craving for shrimp scampi! :)

I just wanted to post to say I got mine about two hours ago but it wasn't your run of the mill just over a hundred casts story or first ever cast into a shipwreck debris tale.

This is my story about how I levelled fishing from 1-545 through my levelling of 1-86, through doing fishing dailies and going for the mr pinchy as soon As I was able to! ( around level 65ish, which only took about 50 casts btw)

But this isn't time to boast, I'm here to make your life A damn site easier whilst going for this beautiful little pet!

First things first, I decided to try for as many minipets as possible and as on June 1st Darkmoon faire had just started, and the last time it was here I was only about level 50ish and hadn't even heard of the sea pony I decided to give it a try!

I checked on here for a couple of hours yesterday to see if anyone had any tips, and tbh random is random so I just thought id read the latest comments of people getting there's and where they got them!

I felt that these comments lacked a guide to make things abit easier for some people, hence what I'm doing!

• go download the following addons:
( if your no good with installing stuff just google the curse client and download it, makes life so much quicker lol)

• Bagnon
• Rarity
• fishing buddy I think it's called, youl know you have the right addon because the description just ses " simple right click casting"

These addons will help you NO END!
Bagnon brings up all bags at once in one area so if you need to open up and delete to make room for more stuff you can quickly And easily , ( I got to the point where in about 80 bag spaces I only had 3-4 spaces left and would have to delete lower value items etc to save eating time by hearthing and selling bits etc

fishing ace or fishing buddy whatever it's called let's you cast your line with a double click of the right mouse button then just one right click when you got a bite and double click again, voila!
I was averaging about 4 casts a minute with this addon it's so easy to use you must mAke sure you have a fishing pole equipped though or it won't work !

And rarity , great addon that keeps a tally of all your attempts at rare pets/ items or mounts, so after every catch a pop up came up briefly saying how many attempts I'd had and what for "Sea Pony - 3 Attempts"
Which can be helpful if your levelling and kill a monster that can also drop a pet or mount etc, in case you didn't know

i hope this information works for you! It did for me! Now go fish! As I said earlier, I caught mine a few hours ago,

I swam to the secret under water cave ( at te Far East of the island underwater is a ship wreck and underneath it is a cave, I swam up, was alone, and just started fishing into the water

I had my jewelled fishing rod, my weather beaten hat, a glow worm lure ( +100 for an hour ) and max fishing skill when I started properly. So a total skill of about 735?

Anyway after an hour, an alliance player shows up and waves at me with a pet in a water bubble I thought it was a sea pony but it was a goldfish, so he starts fishing next to me, I'm horde so we don't speak, then a few hours pass, I get to about. 630 casts and he suddenly jumps up and down and I'm heartbroken to see him with a sea pony doing ./.clap etc, so as I'm a good sport I /clap and /praise and then /jealous lol

And I thought ally hard work had gone to waste then about 40 casts later I fish mine up :)

He was afk so I /slap and run off to show him off haha,

I love him now he's amazing! Now I can move on!

I put in a total of about 4 hours non stop fishing, but it was worth it :)

Remember to always have at least 4-5 bag spaces as I looted mine with another fish! Just to be safe leave 4-5 I had about 70 bag slots filled with stack after stack of pandarian fish by the end!

Never give up guys :)

So I don't have any epic tale. Just a poor, humble mage trying to level my fishing up enough to get the Darkmoon monthly fishing quest. I was working on leveling it to about 80 just so I could get the achievement for doing 6 different quests there and wouldn't you know it, I must have gotten it somewhere in the mid 70's. I didn't even notice it at first as I was just casting one after the other. I only had a basic rod I bought from the guy at the dock and no lures at all. I was using Fishingbuddy as it's just so much easier to cast and catch and a shipwreck debris field popped up right where I was casting. I'd never heard of it till now. Cool little guy...:)

Just fished him up at DMF in a shipwrek debris pool. He was green (uncommon), I thought for SURE he'd be blue (rare). Everything I see on this little guy is that he's rare, and not just rare, but super rare.
