I think these mounts are glitched, when i see people with them they arn't sitting on the drake, but the drake is carrying them.

Got this today after a couple days of running 5mans with a steady group. The only ones that gave us much trouble were Vigorous VanCleef Vindicator and Headed South. Most of the other ones were simple enough if you just focus on them.

All in all if you can do good dps (think 12k+ on most bosses) you should be able to complete this with a competent group in heroic gear and minimal 359 epics.

I finally received this mount today after putting in a lot of effort for the last few days. We casually did the first few achievements, then burned through the others.

I'll be writing a guide to help benefit those attempting to get their own drake soon enough.

The most difficult achievements are generally the timed ones, or the ones that are so complicated that you may kill the boss and not receive the achievement depending on how close you are (such as "Sun of a..."). I'd recommend a lot of ranged DPS, who are really geared, with a solid tank if you want to blow through this. Don't purposely not bring melee though, just make sure they give your group a solid buff if you're going to bring them since Blizzard made the mechanics much harder on melee. It's always better to avoid extra stress.

None the less, I had a great time obtaining my drake, and it's a lot of fun to do with your friends. Just enjoy it while it lasts!...

Also had the great pleasure in obtaining this drake, and by far the hardest achievement was the Vancleef timed event, even though there are various tricks you can pull to make it easier it still proved a challenge. Also, the headed south achievement requires one heck of a healer, or double healers, to steadily pull off.

However, i didn't come here to rant about those things. Im confirming that the mount is bugged since i obtained it, 18th december 2010. The thing which i find odd is that BEFORE i obtained the mount the visuals were not bugged, latest occassion i saw a player sit on one of the mount ought to have been the 15th december.

It's pretty neat though, whenever you fly long-distance you may entertain yourself by looking at your character hoovering slightly below the drake, looking like he doesn't have a concern in the world. Or if you stand on the ground your character will be almost completely hidden beneath the ground, making it look like you're simply a dragon.

Im looking forward to having the bug corrected though, since the drake itself looks spectacular, and having this visual bug really takes the edge off of it.

hmm if you watch the drake in the model viewer on Java, it shows blackish wings :) where as my drake ingame has way way more lighter texturework applied to its wings.

Just got this last night and have to say it looks pretty awesome in shadow form, the black/reds go really well together.

Will defiantly be using it for a while until the achievements are all face roll and everyone ends up having one, just like the red proto :(

in patch 4.1 they made the color darker and uglier . i made a copy of my toon and test it in ptr 4.1 the color is darker and uglier :( should leave the design color alone.

As of PTR Patch 4.1, the model for this drake has been improved.

There is no longer a hole in it's left foot.
It's wings have been reshaded. They are significantly darker now.
It's eyes have a more luminescent glow rather than a painted-on look.
The red crystals on it's wing joints aswell as it's tail glow now.
The under-side of the drake has been given more detail around the edges. Epsecially the tail spine.

I haven't had the chance to check the rest of the Stone Drakes because the Volcanic one is the only one I own, you can assume likewise adjustments have been made to the other drakes aswell. I will update this as I find out.

Edit: After taking a close look at mounts on the PTR, the same changes have been applied to the Sandstone, Vitreous and Phosphorescent drakes aswell.

Now, if they'll just fix the Dark Phoenix so it isn't like a purple cloud....

Am I the only one bothered by the fact that the colors in the item's icon are switched (drake is red and crystals are blue).

Glitch still apparent, for humans atleast, but, when you mount this drake, half of your lower body clips through the seat. Shame Blizzard hasn't fixed this yet. Been a bug since they were released.

Currently on Live (5.0.4) the achievement is bugged, and it requires a achievement from one of the Pandaria instances, I can't confirm if you actually need it to complete the achievement or not.

An easy mount to get at lvl 90, my friend and I took out most of the achieves in about 6 hours with just us 2. Needed a 3rd person for some achieves.
