This looks like a fantastic tank trinket. You have to remember, in Cataclysm they are attempting to move away from the stam stacking mentality, and get tanks looking more at mitigation and avoidance.

This trinket provides a mighty chunk of mastery, which gives druids/death knights more damage absorbtion, and gives warriors/paladins higher block chance, so for any class should be some nice mitigation. Mastery looks to be a very nice stat for tanks in Cataclysm.

And then there is the on-use effect. And boy is it a nice one. FOUR HUNDRED resistance to all schools of magic (well except holy, but I doubt we'll face any of that) for 10 seconds. On only a 1 minute cooldown. This will make you able to virtually ignore any big nasty magic attack every minute. I'll be honest and admit I am not fully up on resistance mechanics, but I thinnk you will resist most of a magic attack with this, and also have a good chance to resist the application of any debuffs (DoTs / slows / damage increases etc) that are based upon one of the magic schools.

So ignore the lack of stam - this is an absolutely fantastic mitigation trinket.

Presumably also a good trinket for PvP, assuming your mastery is worthwhile in a PvP context, and specifically if you are weak against caster teams. 400-175 (the spell pen cap most will have) = 225 + buffs = enough spell resistance to make you fairly likely to resist CC spells, and also will give you ~20% damage reduction against spell damage.

So, for example, for a feral druid (weak versus double caster teams) this is like having a second Barkskin.

Could possibly be seen as a defensive trinket in pvp but it seems doubtful overall when looking at other pvp trinkets available (possible for classes/specs without decent defensive cds).

More realistically seems as though this will be an incredible tanking trinket. With a minute cd and 10 seconds of activation, this seems roughly equivalent to Anti Magic Shell, giving non dk tanks an easily usable cd for high magic damage boss fights.

The mastery will be an added bonus for tanking classes considering all tank masterys are geared towards survivability.

Since this is merely a rep trinket, it will probably be a requirement for any serious raider, there will likely be encounter(s) that it will be extremely useful to switch out another trinket temporarily.

I will love to see this trinket's actual effect in action. Many boss debuffs are non-mitigatable or non-avoidable. This trinket seems to lend itself more to magic-school-based AoE (fire, nature).

497 resist = an average of 45.83% less damage taken.
400 resist = an average of 40.51% less damage taken.

Has pretty lightning graphics on use!

Also worth noting that Sindragosa's Flawless Fang does NOT share a cooldown with this; perhaps there will be a fight where the two of them are worth using together.

not overly useful for ilvl 359 item. as a DK tank the mastery is great but the resistance? very situational IMHO - rather see stamina, dodge, parry, or health added to this.

sadly, yours isnt mine, but if u stopped stacking stamina and stat worrying about mitigation, it could be like mine

look down, back up, where are you? you are facing deathwing, and the healer is dead! look down, look again, i have it, is a trinket which allows me to resist magic...

THE ATTACK IS NOW RESISTED!

Excellent trinket for any class in PvE, and situationally in PvP. The mastery isn't necessarily a favored stat for every class/spec but the Use effect is just fantastic. GET. THIS. TRINKET. This provides a unique cooldown that will undoubtedly be useful for the entirety of this expansion and probably well into the next.

4.1 brought about a new spell effect for the on use effect of this item, it used to look like sparkly electricity and is now a sort of purple fire bubble surrounding you, I much prefer the new spell effect!
Screenshots seem to have already been submitted to show the difference.

since 4.2 i cannot see this trinket working in pvp. paladin so by stacking resi aura i get 595 resistence. still getting the full effect of the spell. i dont know the math behind spell penetration but the 200 something cap is still low compared to 595. anyone that can confirm this? or deny it?

Great for any tankin' class in soloin' Vortex Pinnacle, Stone Core, etc, for mount farming purpuses, whithout mentioning hardcore Volatile farming inside dungeons or even heroics such as the ones I just mentioned.

Just throwin' out ideas for people the get the most out of this trinket.

Just some exact protadin numbers in case anyone was interested:

1.This gives 1.79 mastery which is 4.03% block chance.
2.The on use effect is called Image of Immortality
3.Unbuffed, this provides 40.51% average damage reduction vs. all schools of magic (except holy, of course).
4.With kings, that's 45.83% magic DR.
5.With a resist aura, that's 50.32% fire, frost and shadow DR.

Awesome tankadin trinket - and so easy to get!

Here we are, multiple patches later, and this is still an incredible tank trinket. Having trouble finishing off those trinket slots for your tank offspec? Pick this up. It takes about a week of TB dailies, give or take, and it's significantly better than a lot of the stuff that drops even in the Dragon Soul raid.

Obviously, it will tank your ilvl, and I don't necessarily recommend using one on a progression MT, but for heroic 5-mans and LFR, it's absolutely awesome.

Best tank trinket of the expansion hands down. As a Blood DK, I'm still using it in heroic Dragon Soul. It's simply an absolute must have.

This trinket is AMAZING in mists now that players no longer get spell penetration, you will resist flatly their spells quite often now in addition to lower the damage, is it greater than a ton of pvp resilience and power on a trinket? that remains to be seen but so far yes.

A patch 5.1 hotfix pretty much ruined this item past Cata. "Now provides 15% less resistance per level beyond level 85."
