On the beta server this mount can be purchased for for 200 Emblems of Heroism. There is no faction requirement.

Might be worth noting that this is the same "model" as the Reins of the Ice Mammoth available from the <The Sons of Hodir> Faction. The only difference in appearance is that the Ice Mammoth has off-white fur, and the Wooly Mammoth has light brown fur (Blizzard spell it "Wooly" rather than the apparently correct "Woolly").

Of course the other difference is that the Ice Mammoth costs 8,500 Gold when you have reached the required exalted reputation with <The Sons of Hodir> to purchase it. Whereas the Wooly Mammoth costs 200 Emblems of Heroism.

Speaking as a raider who will continue to do a few daily heroics each week for the foreseeable future, I cannot imagine spending 200 Emblems of Heroism on a mount any time soo, another problem being that I will mainly be getting Emblems of Valor which you cannot purchase any mounts with. :(

Whichever Mammoth mount you get though, they all look great fun to ride about on :D

EDIT: Now that they have made it possible to exchange emblems of valor for emblems of heroism... Well I currently only have one emblem of valor and I clear all raid content each week... Spending spree on heirloom items etc.. So now I can well imagine myself buying this mount in a few weeks when I really have nothing left to spend badges on.

Some are more easy to obtain than others.

According to the 3.0.8 PTR release notes, you will be able to purchase one Emblem of Heroism for one Emblem of Valor. That means that you will be able to purchase this item even if you only do 25 man raids.

in 3.2, these emblems are useless now, and to get that ammount you would be sacrificing some really great gear and sellable stuff oportunities, so i think you may want to hold off on getting this unless your really crazy about mamoths

Seems if you perform a faction change after you've bought the mammoth, you keep that side's mount. And you can then, if you wish, purchase a second one for the current faction. I've got the Horde (red accents) mount on my alliance character. Rather neat if you ask me.

Wonder if the 16k mount is the same...Be kinda funny running around with 3 NPCs that hate you on the back.

If you learn the opposite faction's Mammoth, will you lose access to your original Mammoth? I'd like to up the mount count, but it's neat to have a unique mount for my new faction. :P

This mammoth does not get converted when changing factions, I have both ( Blue and red) as an undead. Both counted towards 100 mounts.

edit: It does now .... stupid 4.01 patch. wasted 200 badges

No reason to remove it, and to the person saying it'll be "trivial" to acquire once Cataclysm comes out, well...

Thekal and Mandokir still drop the tiger and raptor, respectively
Kael still drops both Al'ar and the Hawkstrider
Rivendare still drops the Deathcharger (though this one IS being removed once Cata hits, it's because the instance is being re-made)
Attumen still drops the Fiery Warhorse
Anzu still drops the Raven Lord

All of these are definitely possible to solo (with the exception of Kael in Tempest Keep), yet they're all still available. Low drop rate, so even level 80s spend hours/days/weeks or more farming for each of these. 200 emblems are gonna take a fair chunk of time to get solo as well, considering a freshly dinged 85 probably won't be able to solo many, if any of the 80 heroics.

How about with the new justice points stystem? How are the values changed to buy these mounts? Is it it better get it now with badges, or later with the points?
