Caught him about a week or so ago on lightbringer. Rerolled from scratch oon horde and fished him out at about level 15. Seems rarer than i could ever had imagined. they must've just added him because no one seems to have caught him on my server......BTW caught in in northern valley

On a lazy weekend in Orgrimmar I found myself putting a few brews back and tossin' a line. It approached that time of day when the sun hit the tree line and every fisherman knows that it's magic hour - the time when legends are made. The mosquitoes were thick and I was weary from the sun's power that day but I decided to cast just one more time before Retiring. The cast was long - a country mile - and I was taking my time reelin it in as I looked back on the day's catch and how good a fish fry sounded for dinner when I noticed something...

there was a swirl of water around my bobber and although it was getting darker by the minute I distinctively knew something was interested and I stopped reeling. Left station less the bobber looked like a beacon of light in a black glassy void and sensing I had perplexed the taker I picked up the reeling - this time fast... very fast. I used figure eights and small jerks to simulate injury and as the lure approached the drop off point near the waterfall - the all too familiar heart-snap and adrenaline rush HIT me as I now had - FISH ON

I struggled to control the getaway - releasing just a bit of slack and giving the beast some time to show me it's mettle. I was surprised at the intensity of this one... it clearly was not the typical snapper or catfish... even the 17 pounder I had caught earlier was a breeze to land compared to this... Yes this was something far more sinister.

the line was taught and my pole looked dangerously angled towards water and I knew I had to act quickly. I stood up and pointed the pole at the waterline and drew my arms up and back using raw force to pull the behemoth up and then compensated on the re-draw with a reeling hand so fast - I think I wore out the bearings of my old Penn. On the repeat motion I finally saw something right beneath the surface... something dark and brutal.. something that seemed like it was aching to get a look at ME! Our eyes met and I felt a chill run down my back as I finally beheld the slick engineered looked of this fish. the dorsal was sharp and the fish was long and lean. I grabbed for my net - a net that was now making me nervous with its now miniscule stature in comparison. I went down into the abyss with it, dying to see this fish out of its element and in mine when, as if God himself had cursed this fish, it looked at me and in a blink of an eye - BIT through my spider-line like it was 2lb test!! With a splash in my face I saw a flicker as this missle accelerated into the deep along with my lure.

I sat there on the now dark water's edge in awe - looking at my frayed line. I picked up my stringer and box and started on the journey home. I knew, however, that this would not be my last encounter with the Crafty God of the Orgrimmar Ponds.

In my quest to land this fish I present to you the stats:

- started with skill of 55, +5 pole, and lure // Ended at skill of 225, +20 pole and lure
- not once did a fish "get away" so these statistics reflect my experience and although may not be yours, aren't skewed
- I fished every inch of both ponds in Org using multiple casts in same area
- this took around 4 hours although it may be a bit more as I had downed a few during this adventure

- 132 catfish
- 82 sunfish

- 1 17 pound catfish (0.02 %)
- 1 healing potion (0.005 %)
- 1 bloated mudsnapper (0.003 %) (looted 1 shadowgem from it)
- Old Crafty (0.001 %)

Although you could say the odds are the same for all the rare items above - I actually caught the 17 pounder at fish #45, the healing potion at fish #174, the bloated mudsnapper at fish #312, and The legend at fish #531.

As an footnote (showing that this is only my observed probability - it will most likely not be yours) during the time I spent doing this another person announced they had caught him after only a half a dozen casts... it was a hunter looking to simply feed his pet...

I will divulge that I caught him WITHOUT lure and skill at the time was 225 + 20 for pole but as any true angler, I am not giving away the spot!

Good luck and always remember for true fish masters... trolling is never a bad thing...

I was leveling my alt's fishing beside the fishing trainer in Valley of Honor. Started at 11/75 and caught Old Crafty at 43/75 - Deathwing server.

Using a Shiny Bauble (+25) and a Strong Fishing Pole (+5).

I recently started some new alts and had not gotten fishing started on them, even though they were pushing 30. I decided to get my warrior started on fishing, and this guy showed up on the cast that got my fishing to level 15. I so rarely get unusual drops; it's a shame it's on a warrior where it won't do me much good. I mostly post this so players will know that it has very little to do with fishing skill.

Had the brilliant idea to pimp my alliance bank alt with this little bugger.

Got him to level5 and learned fishing (easy), went on a long journey to Orgrimmar, Valley of Spirits (painful). Then tried to actually catch him. Failed and stopped after about 2000catches. My Auction House business had been on halt for too long already.

Be warned, catching this fish can take weeks if you are unlucky.

This fish can be caught in Org it seems entirely at random. I threw my line into the water at the Valley of Spirits (no bauble, regular fishing pole, and lvl 125 fishing). He was the very first thing I caught.

Don't go rushing over to this pool with pole in tow hoping to snag this little guy immediately. You just have to be patient or get very lucky. haha

Just caught today.

I got stack of smallfish, catfish and 1½ stack of mudfish.

I fished a healing potion and said something about it being strange getting a potion from fishing then my next catch I got Old Crafty.
I was just levelling fishing in valley of honor, but now I have a permanent souvenir.

I think fish love me. Fishing strictly on the fisherman's dock in Org I got this fish by the time I hit 71 skill. I was also a lucky prick and caught Mr. Pinchy on the 3rd Highland Mixed pool and the Crawdad was the very first wish reward. :D

Tips for ALLIANCE fishing Old Crafty

Fish while /sleeping to look slightly less conspicuous.
Be prepared to click "OK" on a "Looting this item will bind it to you" dialog box. This dialog box appears regardless of whether you're in a group, and if you cast again before clicking OK, you will not loot the fish.
Turn off the display of your title to make your bright red name smaller.
The easiest, most out of the way place to fish from is inside the waterfall in pond in the Valley of Honor. The Valley of Spirits is where Horde get portaled in to Orgrimmar, from Mages or from Shattrath, so the Horde traffic there is considerably higher. Entering from the side entrance will be easier than the front.
Bring some Elixirs of Camouflage. If you don't, you'll likely be troubled by hunters and druids who have track humanoids on. Using this elixir will reduce ganking. Edit: Or, if you are a hunter, you can use Aspect of the Beast (Thanks, Arhippa!)
Have at least 4 empty bag slots; the more you have, the better.
If you are not at max fishing skill, make sure your skill is not capped. You will probably do quite a lot of fish catching, so you may as well get skill points for it.
Be patient! This will quite probably take you a long time, so don't set out to do it one sitting. If gankers are persistent, be prepared to log out and play another character or do something else.

Caught him in Org in the Valley of Spirits while trying to catch my Baby Crocolisk for the fishing Daily. Needless to say i was QUITE suprised, I wouldnt advise farm fishing for this guy though, Youd be better off getting a Azure Whelp to drop

Alliance can get this. Caught mine after pulling up the IF one. There's a nice hidden alcove by the waterfall around 65,25 where you can fish. I got to it by popping invisibility and dropping down the waterfall area by the hunter trainers, but I doubt invisi was really necessary. Gnomes will have to back up against a wall in order to stand here, but the other races can stand in the water and cast wherever. Took me about 40 minutes. Clearly, the 5% extra int let me outsmart him faster than the others. Happy fishing!

Don't auto-loot and chain cast fishing if you're after this fish!

Dropped for me and the "Looting this item will bind it to you" dialog popped up. I'm so used to auto-loot, recast that by the time I realised what had dropped, I'd recast and the bobber was gone :(

so...I didn't even know these fish existed. I lvled my fishing in Org from about 150-300 pre-bc. I was just doing my fishing daily, hoping for a sweet fishing hat and this guy fell in my lap after about 10 casts or so. 10 casts later, I caught another one. I never knew about these rare fish and now I have 2.

This was the very first fish I caught with my alt on Blackrock. Fished in Org with a Shiny Bauble and BOOM I caught it. 2(+25)/75 in fishing after that lol.

Got it as a Gnome Mage (Alliance) after about 5.5h fishing. Used Elixir of Camouflage and hided near the waterfall. See screenshot for exact position.

Fished for about 4-5 hours in The Valley of Honor in Orgrimmar catching over 1000 fish (which were vendored). No Old Crafty. Changed position to the Valley of Spirits and withing 50-60 fish I caught him. (Leveled Fishing from 1-296 in the process)

Tried for Old Ironjaw by fishing in the Forlorn Cavern in Ironforge, however still no luck after an hour or two. I also seem to attract some unwanted attention from alliance and got ganked several times by more than one alliance each time. I seem to have really bad luck with these fish - Remember it is both Old Crafty AND Old Ironjaw that will give you the acheivement come Patch 3.0

Man, this was a pain. Took around.... 800 casts or so, I'd wager (no mod running). The waterfall wasn't too bad, but I had to switch to the Portal Trainer area.

Basically whenever the horde found me, I'd have to rez, stealth, and switch areas. I preferred the portal area (spirit, whatever, it's the south one) since I didn't have any LOS problems with casts.

I figure I can do the IF one whenever; just needed to get the Org one done before the guards were bumped to 75.

As an Alliance Paladin, Here's how i caught Old Crafty.

Get on a horde character and scout the quickest route to the Valley of Honor Waterfall. Just so you know exactly how to get there in case you don't know Ogrimmar very well.

After i determined the fastest path, i got on my mount, enabled Crusader Aura and rode non-stop to waterfall in the Valley of Honor Fishing Pond. The horde guards all gave up along the way. None of them bother you once you get to the waterfall. I did this early in the morning when kids are at school or sleeping.

Fishing is just a bit tricky here then. I've read some folks fishing from the waterfall. I found it difficult to see the bobber while fishing there. I decided on 65, 27 and "slept" behind the rocks there. This is completely out of view from horde unless they are specifically looking for you. Every once in a while, maybe 10% of my casts, would land inside a boulder in the pond where I couldn't click on the bobber, so I recast quickly. I submitted a screenshot of the location i like (if it gets posted)

My first day was unsuccesful. Some horde did discover me. This seems to be way worse at night! During the day, folks leave you alone. Some guys come up and dance with you. Others sit down and fish with you. While others totally want to gank you. I never engaged in contact. I never died. If someone started attacking me, i shut down WOW and came back later. And I was not dead.

Watch out for the low levels. These are the guys that will yell something in the general chat, and a handful of horde will follow shortly. That's when I either played an alt, or got on my horde "scout" (which was alway left by the pond) and waited for everyone to leave, and started back up. Don't be afraid to exit Wow at the first sign of trouble.

I caught Old Crafty on my 2nd day of trying. Yes, this is the utmost of tedious boredom, and not recommened for everyone, but if you are a fishaholic, you'll be doing this.

Be careful when you catch this crafty fish, as you will get the usual bind on pickup warning, meaning a recast or moving will close the loot window, making you lose your valuable catch.

With patch 3.0.2 and the introduction of an achievement for catching both fish... I highly suspect that Blizzard responded to the constant threat of getting corpse-camped by upping the drop rate drastically on both Old Crafty and Old Ironjaw. I caught both fish in less than 300 casts each on three different characters now, the average being 253.6 total casts.

If you're not one of the lucky ones who can head into enemy territory at five in the morning when the city has 25 total people in it, this (suspected) change is a great thing.

{edit}: Also, a tip for Alliance attempting to catch Old Crafty in the Valley of Spirits instead of the Valley of Honor: go to the very south of the cove. Turn left and hug the wall going north, past the horde cloth quartermaster on the platform. You'll be stopped by a palm tree - with the building to your left and the wall to your right. Yes, there is substantially more traffic here from the portal (you'll hear people mounting above your head, in fact), but the Valley of Honor doesn't have a spot where you are completely unable to be seen unless you're looking at from a certain angle and distance away. And you have to be really searching for it. Best of luck!

For alliance, come in the back way and avoid the guards down to the valley of spirits.. where the priest trainers are. Plenty of cover there and its not exactly the center of town. The water looks too shallow but you can cast there.

Spent this weekend and about 8 hours total fishing. I am over 2000 fish and one "The 1 Ring" but still have yet to catch this fish. My wife got it in under 300 cast as well as a guild mate doing the fishing daily.

Guildmate of mine just caught this one his first toss. I of course cursed. Then he got another. And another. In total, he caught SEVEN in approximately 15 minutes of time. And I'm still sitting in Orgrimmar hoping one day I'll catch that bugger. Drop chances are amazing, aren't they.

There's a bug right now (although maaven says it's not a bug). Get the fishing daily quest "Crocolisks in the City". With the quest active, go and fish in Orgrimmar. Don't loot the baby croc when it pops up. You'll get Old Crafty in minutes.

Just fished up Old Crafty as well as the Baby Crocolisk on my 2nd cast while trying to do the Crocolisks in the City quest. Got the achievement like the rest, but was unable to loot him. Took a screenshot just incase.

For Alliance trying to fish up Old Crafty, there is now a very easy way to get to Orgrimmar from Shattrath City.

Today Blizzard started the WLK prelude event with a zombie outbreak. All you have to do is become a zombie and you can take the Orgrimmar portal in Shattrath City. Once there shamble your way to your desired fishing spot. You will die to guards on the way, but once you die you'll be in the heart of Orgrimmar with no zombie debuff, leaving you free to pound your head against the wall until you catch Old Crafty.

I finally caught the bugger after 576 fish.

! Lots of music and patience.
I fished behind the huge tree in Valley of spirits, behind the High priest/priest trainer.

Today on my server was the baby crocs in sw and org. Before i had remembered I was in raid, I ended up fishing 3 old crafty's, which was out of 50 casts. Going to head to IF if he can drop when this quest is activated for th etime being.

I don't know if this helps any, but yesterday when I was getting ready for a Mount Hyjal run, I had the fishing daily, and was fishing near the Mage portal area in Org. Of course I was dumbfounded when the Crocolisk wouldn't drop for me, but ... and after 3 hours of trying earlier in the day, Old Crafty drops after 5 casts.

Whats even worse, right before my summon came, a second Old Crafty got hooked on my line.

I don't know if this helps the schematics, or if it can even be viable... but thats how it happened for me.

Was doing fishing daily today and managed to get 3 within a space of 5 minutes...

Was good cause i got the achievement :D

I'm fairly convinced they increased the rate of this fish appearing after the last patch. Both me and my guildmate did the fishing daily the other day to catch the baby crocolisks, and both of us got an Old Crafty on our respective first casts.

Extremely extremely lucky or increased drop rate, you be the judge.

and I just realized there are a whole lotta "I got my mind set on you"s in the song... Talk about irritating.

It took me 271 tries to get Old Crafty and not surprisingly, I fished up too many Longjaw Mud Snappers * (148), Bristle Whisker Catfish * (64) and Brilliant Smallfish * (55). I got 2 Lesser Mana Potions and 1 17 Pound Catfish as well.

Just ended up getting Old Crafty about an hour after picking up fishing, was near the waterfall in org.

So it doesn't take a lot of time if you're lucky, but like others the waterfall seems to be a good spot to try.

I know alot of you are gonna hate me now ;P But i simply need to tell this story. Went fishing in Orgrimmar with my friend tonight. We're both alliance and have gone once before but gave up after ~15 mins due to ganking. Anyway, this second time i got crafty on my first cast!
But - as if that wasn't enough, i got my second crafty - and third - AND FORTH within 14 casts. Beat that ;D

7 casts later i got my 5th :>

Confirmed on 10/28, There is currently a bug with the Crocolisk fishing daily which results in you receiving the Croc and Ol' Crafty in the same cast.

It took me one cast, and my guildmates between 5-20 each.

Get him, and your Achievement, while it's easy!

To those who aren't frequent travelers to Orgrimmar just beware of the grey thing as you run over it, I found out that theres some strange collision to it, so you'll end up getting stuck and nailed by the elite like I did :(

There seem to be a nice bug going atm, if you have the quest "Crocolisks in the City" quest, to fish Baby Crocolisk, the drop chance on Old Crafty is much bigger, destroy the Baby Crocolisk every time you catch it and keep fishing. I caught old crafty on my 7th cast after I figured this out. 2 of my friends caught him on 1st cast with this quest along with the Baby Crocolisk, and guildie got it too on very few casts. :-) Enjoy!

Over 500 casts before I caught him. But BEWARE of the Confirmation box, I can't stress that enough. After fishing for awhile you'lI tend to want to hurry things up and become fast with clicking the fishing button. I accidently click on fishing again and dropped Old Crafty

Just got 10 old crafty in 80~ throws trying to to daily in a raid (stupid yes, didnt realise it until then, left, and got croc on first). Lucky would have been 1-2 in 80, but 10? its just plain stupid. Might be a bug if you do it in a raid, although I wont test it myself.

Do not kill yourselves trying to get this fish for the achievement. As of right now it's extremely easy to get via a bug. Get the quest "Crocolisks in the City" (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=11665) from the fishing daily guy. Go to Orgrimmar and begin casting. You will almost 100% fish up the crocolisk. The catch is that in the same loot as the crocolisk, you will see another fish. This fish has an EXTREMELY high chance of being Old Crafty. If you try to loot it, you will see "This item can not be looted at this time" but the act of trying to loot it will flag you for the achievement. If the fish is not Old Crafty, do not loot the crocolisk or destroy it if you did and fish again. I got mine on the first try using this method and several of my friends got theirs within 5 casts. Hopefully this saved someone a lot of time they could instead put forth into Old Ironjaw, for which there is no easy way.

There is a trick which will help you to catch this fish a lot quicker. It will only work if you can accept fishing quests from Old man Barlo.

Step 1:
Go to Old man Barlo and pick up the daily fishing quest "Crocolisks in the City". You need this quest for this trick to work. If he doesn't give it, wait and check again the other day till you get it.

Step 2:
Go to Orgrimmar and cast your line :) Any of the ponds there will do the trick, choose the one you prefer.

Step 3:
Each time you catch the baby croc, loot it. Then check your inventory and delete it again. Do this everytime till you get Old Crafty.

We found out that Old Crafty has a much higher chance to drop at the same time as the baby croc. A friend of mine got it in 2 casts. I got it in 5.

It's probably just me beeing lucky, but I got 4, yes 4 in under 10 minutes while fishing after the baby crocodil! (Daily fishing quest)

But on the other side, I spent 30min+ fishing for the alliance archivement fish and got none...

I have tossed two casts in Orgrimmar the last two weeks.

Last week, I was on "Crocolisks in the city"

I caught Old crafty on the first cast, and also got the crocolisk.

Tonight, when daily reset, the quest "Crocolisks in the city" was up again.

I went to orgrimmar, cast 1 time, caught Old Crafty again, and also got the crocolisk on the first cast.

Did almost 975 catches before I finaly saw this fish.
The sad part for me was that I re-threw blobber so fast I didnt see BoP box on screen
(was fishing like 04am in the nigth and was qutie tried)

Anyway. Wacth out for BoP box and dont rush to much, chances are you
will miss it and that sucks when it's quite rare for those how arent
lucky enough to catch it in 1st catch!

I did about 25 catchs. Almost got a crock in every catch, but also got 5 Old Crafty.
Makes me regret I ever did those 945 catches at first place :/

In case it's unclear, Alliance players can catch Old Crafty during the 'Crocolisks in the City' quest. I just did, first cast.

Auto-loot was OFF, and I was able to loot both Old Crafty and the Baby Crocolisk.

Best way to catch him: Party with someone else and make it a raid. Make sure you have the crocolisk daily and I can almost guaranty you'll catch Crafty within minutes. Better hurry before Blizzard fixes this glitch!

Just got him last night. Took about 3 hours hiding behind one of the shacks in the Valley of Spirits, but at least I only got killed by a Horde guy once. Two other horde ppl were cool and just waved when they saw me and walked away.

Picked up the Crocs in the City quest and then went to Orgrimmar. Caught both him and the Croc on my first catch but couldn't loot him. I got credit for the achievement, though.

I did the Croc in the City quest as well and was in a raid, he was fished up at about the 16th cast. Before this I spent like 4 hours trying to fish him before I gave up and did other achievements - then I saw I had that daily so I went and tried it again.

Confirmed, the Crocolisks in the City daily does bug this drop. I confirmed this by destroying the baby crocolisk each time it dropped and then recasting. By this method I received TWELVE Old Crafties within 10 minutes. Hurry and get this fish before Blizzard fixes it. I bet this works for alliance too.

Wow I cought him on the first attempt for daily fishing quest. I got both Baby Crocolisk and Old Crafty at the same time as skilling up to 168 fishing. It then gave the credit for the achievement, prompted for BoP message and then gave me an error message and would not let me loot item.

The point is, I got credit before I looted the item so if you dont care about the actual fish, just auto loot.

Did the Croc Daily yesterday (same day of above mentioned posters): no Crafty. Returned and fished for 2 hours straight on two separate occasions: no Crafty. Two Guildies got him within 45 minutes of each other on this date, one on first cast. There is still an element of luck and sheer frustration with this fish, and the first element mentioned I obviously do not have...

Yesterday i started trying to catch this guy. I was fishing with another guy next to me. Believe it or not he catch the fish 5 times in a 30 minutes period. For me i'm still waiting for it. I start fishing this guy at 297 fishing skill and i'm now at 340, still no crafty.

I got credit for it even though I did not loot it. But for some reason I could not loot it, maybe because I caught it with a baby crocolisk. I got it on my first cast after the patch went live and then again a few casts later.

Valley of the Spirits seems to be the place to do it in my opinion - behind the palm tree and rock in the back. Riding in is easy enough as long as you don't get knocked off your mount. Don't make the mistake of trying to sneak in, like I did with my rogue.

My rogue got old crafty on the first cast with a fishing skill of about 10.
My lock with 275 fishing took about 20 casts.
My hunter with 375 fishing took about 4 casts.

During the day/early morning is the time to do it... most of the kiddies are in bed or in school :)

Here is a really cheap way for alliance to get old crafty, do it during the wrath gate event when Jaina ports u to Ogrimmar, no horde or guard interruptions :)

Did it with the Croc fishing daily (supposedly increases drop rate significantly), and got it within 20 casts

I have been trying to catch old crafty for quite a few days now,total casts :

1354 raw longjaw mudsnapper
578 raw bristle whisker catfish
304 raw brilliant smallfish
1 the 1 ring
3 17 pound catfish
3 19 pound catfish
1 22 pound catfish
3 lesser mana potion
1 low level green item

and 3 times that i didnt get the loot window even though i had clicked the bopper on time

My char is a draenei and i am wondering if there is a glitch behind that similar to the flute of Xavaric,where draenei characters couldnt loot it.I also have old ironjaw at my bank but i dont think thats relevant.

Edit: After picking up the daily quest crocolisk in the city i gave it another shot.Picked up old crafty with 14 casts,i got the achievment but i could not actually loot it since i kept getting the "You can not loot right now message".No biggies,task is done anyway.

Easiest way to get this, Done as a NE druid. First quest until you get a quest called "Fate, Up Against Your Will". When you get this quest you will be ported to Orgrimmar. When you enter the portal you will be ported in front of Thrall, "DO NOT" complete the quest. Instead walk out of the Grommash Hold and head east to The Valley Of Honor. When you get there equip your fishing rod and cast. "You will be in an instanced version of Orgrimmar, the only people what will be there are you, thrall and some guards. None of which will attack you.

This took me about 30-45mins and I caught the following.
-Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper x 54
-17 Pound Catfish x 1
-Raw Bristle Whisker Catfish x 16
-Raw Brilliant Smallfish x 17
-Old Crafty x 1

Theres a quest chain from dragonblight that leads you to a sweet cinematic of Bolvar dying and you are then doing a few diplomatic quests and you end up getting teleported to your own version of Ogrimmar with friendly guards and no other players :D

I can confirm if you want to call it that about getting the Crocolisks in the City quest first before going after Old Crafty PLUS Fate, Up Against Your Will quest. I was aleady at 375 fishing skill when I undertook this achievement. I don't have a exact tally but I was able to easily go from 375 fishing to 450 AND get the 25 fish on up to the 1000 Fish achievement and then some. This was spread out over about 6 hours of total time over 2 days worth. At about 1700 fishing casts I was about to give up till I reread here about picking up the Crocolisks in the City quest. I hearthed back to Shattrah picked up the daily fishing quest which by luck was the Crocolisk quest and got a port back to Stormwind to use the Jaina port to Org. I got the Croc on the first cast but didn't loot it. I got the Croc on every cast until the 17th cast, there was Old Crafty along with the Croc. A odd relation, perhaps a shared loot table of sorts. Who knows. I am quite happy to get this little.... fish.

I was fishing in Orgimmar for my daily fishing quest, crocodilisk.

I spent around 50 minutes to get the crocodile, at that time I was really tired but at the same time very amazed of my luck, I got totally 17, YES 17! old crafty in that time.
Blizzard must have increased the drop rate by ALOT, or I am just insanely "lucky".

Got him on my 9th catch. I didn't have any of the fishing dailies or anything else special. I was behind a rock just right of the waterfall in the Valley of Honor. For AlliesI can confirm the seems to be a pretty safe location if you can get to it as the rock totally hides you from any Horde on the path. On the way in just watch out for some lvl 75 pats with the "eye" that can see through stealth if you are a druid or rogue.

Yep, having Crocs in the City works like a charm indeed. Friend got it in under 10 casts, took me about 35. While under Jaina's amnesty to boot. Awesome stuff indeed.

Using the Crocolisks in the City trick still works. When on that quest there are three common catches:

- A low level fish and a baby crocolisk
- Old Crafty and a baby crocolisk
- A low level fish

I caught both a crocolisk and Old Crafty on the sixth cast (with four of the first five coming up with a low level fish and a baby crocolisk).

On a sidenote, you can loot and keep old crafty when you catch him using the Crocolisks in the City trick.

Old Crafty seems to be unique, even if not stated, atleast I can not loot the second one I just caught.

edit: Ok, GM sais it was just a bug because I looted it together with Baby Crocolisk for fishing daily (or because I was not synced with the Server)

I'd like to confirm that having in your quest log does indeed affect being able to get Old Crafty.

I fished in Orgrimmar for a long time and had no luck. Today I picked up the Croc quest, went to Org and got a Croc on my first cast. I didn't loot it, and on the second case I got both the Croc and Old Crafty.

Right now (just to test,) I am having a friend come by who also has the quest and needs Crafty. I'll post the results in a few.

Edit: She got it on the second cast as well!

Did roughly 1200 casts in Org with no luck, got my fishing from 1-325. I started doing my fishing dailies and picked up the croc one. After heading to Org, first fish, Old Crafty + Baby Croc.
/cheer as I click the accept loot.
/cry as it says I can't loot that.
So I destroy my croc and try again thinking its maybe a glitch with the croc. 2nd cast, Old Crafty + Baby Croc. More /crying as it loot errors me again. I turned off auto loot and around 20 casts later I was able to successfully loot the crafty fish.

It wasn't until after those 2 unsuccessful loots that I discovered here about the quest 'trick'.

If anyone else is doing the croc quest and wants old crafty, make sure auto loot is off to prevent this happening.

Decided to go the hardcore route and completed the "safe" quest before doing this--also didn't get the croc daily.

I must say this was some of the most fun I had fishing for my whole wow career; I had a lot of "hold your breath" moments, most notably when I realized my elixir of camoflage wasn't active and a belf hunter entered the area and started fishing. =) Only got ganked once.

It makes the victory that much sweeter, because every day this week there has been a successful raid on every horde city on my server (Zangarmarsh). It made me feel quite sneaky to come in and fish. =D

Make sure to not have the Crocolisks in the City quest while trying to catch him. Apparently there's a current bug that makes you not able to loot Old Crafty if you catch the Baby Crocolisk at the same time. Learned that the hard way twice before a GM told me there were issues with it.

Seems to be a bug with catching Old Crafty with the Crocolisks in the City daily. When you catch the Baby Crocolisk close the loot window and continue casting. Make sure you have auto-loot turned off. Within a few catches it is almost guaranteed that you catch Old Crafty. Worked for me on three separate characters. Good luck, hope you catch him before it's fixed!

If you get the crocolisk and Old Crafty on the same catch (while on the fishing daily) and have auto looting on, you will automatically loot the crocolisk but you need to confirm the Old Crafty pickup. Therefor it bugs out and says that you "can't loot that right now".

Deleting the crocolisk from your inventory will allow you to loot Old Crafty.

Be aware , i just caught it at same time as baby croc and it bugged and i went fast for opening a GM ticket window and the loot window dissapeared . BLIZZ and their customer support sucks . i've lost many hours trying to get it , and when i do get it it buggs , not my fault , but they cannot help . thanks alot

I can corroborate the Crocolisks in the City bug observed above. Over 500 casts with no luck without the quest. Picked up the quest, pulled him up on my 10th or so cast. A very convenient bug.

Something is amiss with this fish. I got three chars which I am fishing on. They do have one thing in common, old crafty has been extremely easy to catch. My salty main got it together with the fishing daily on the first cast, my tauren got it after 16 casts, on the 17th cast he got another one. My third char got it on the 99th fish.

Now I've spent alot time in ironforge fishing after old crafty casting closely to 2k casts without catching him. During the many hours I've spent fishing in IF I've seen one person catch ironjaw while I've seen plenty of people catch old crafty. It might just be coincidence but perhaps they should tweak the catch frequency.

Ok, i've done some testing to confirm above comments, and here's what i've found out.

1. When you are on the Crocolisk in the City quest, this fish becomes a 100% droprate from the Orgrimmar pools. I've got Crafty along with the Baby Crocolisk on my first attempt.
2. If you already have the Baby Crocolisk in your bag, you won't be able to pick Crafty up. You can throw away the Croc safely to pick it up, and fish the croc again on your next attempt.
3. Everytime you throw either the croc or Crafty away from your bags, you will get both again on your next attempt.
4. If you have the croc in your bag, you will just fish the usual level 1 junk fishies.

I can confirm the 100% droprate as i've threw both the croc and Crafty away several times to fish them both up again on the next catch.

I took my fishing from 1 to about 350 in Orgrimmar, no old crafty, I went to IF and caught Old Ironjaw... easy enough. still no old crafty, I see the daily is "Crocolisks in the city", remembering that I read about that quest being a good way to catch Old Crafty... I turned off auto loot, went to Orgrimmar, and POOF! first catch was old crafty, and a baby crocolisk... sweet deal!

Accidentally discovered that with the quest Reborn from the Ashes in my quest log all npcs are neutral and no Horde players are present in Orgrimmar, so grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Did the fishing the hard way. Caugth Old Crafty, december 16 2008, after 497 fishes and 2 lesser healing potions. Counted them meself. Was nice to get the "Looting Old Crafty will bind it to you." question popup.

Just got mine in like 10-15 casts while having the croc daily & being in a raid. Then I left the raid to get the crocolisk for the daily and I got it again in the next cast. The person I heard this method from told me you couldn't get the croc while in a raid and it just replaced the croc with old crafty. After getting this twice in 2 casts with the second one being outside the raid and in combination with the croc I very much doubt you even need that raid at all.

starting off... i bubbled... mounted... i ran! into orgimar, side entrance, the first few guards get on me, mi amigo charges past, making it past the bridge the first guards get off me, mounting back up i run even further, friend being chaced by the other guards.. but not outran, he makes to to a safe point, so do i, perfect plan at first... only hope it stays this way... after a bit, we make it to the waterfall... equipting my trusty big iron fishing pole, and my lucky fishing hat... i cast... and cast... and cast, drinkin cherry grog by the stack we fish... no luck... its been about 5 hours.... my friend gets bored... he leaves.. im alone! *dun dun duuuunnnn......* stay here about another hour... ok im bored now too.. switch off to another my DK, do a couple duels in goldshire.... my friend leaves... i almost leave...... logging off my DK, i accidently click... selecting my main.. the fisher... "ok why not?" i go on, get up and out of my hiding spot, look around, it looks clear... expecting to drop another 100 lines before i acually go to bed... i drop it in, it lands in a rock?.... but hey i can still click the bobber.. ill leave it... waiting.. waiting... waiting... SPLASH! right click on the SPOT slowly realing it in..., with a flash of light, its old crafty....

aye, i did catch'm in a rock.. thats one crafty fish... but none is to crafty for Xeton, the great fisherman! (server is hellscream)

i used NO lures, only my trusty big iron fishing pole (+20 fish), and about 10 stacks of cherry grog.. ha

lvl 56 pally (ally), if any lowbies are confused the only requirements are: lvl 1 fishing, and a fishing rod, it'll take some determination, and a bubble is always helpfull for getting to the pond :] but this is possible for everyone, of every level and every fishing skill,

where to hide: i hid to the right (looking north AT the waterfall) on the smallest , but still sort of high rock, in the middle, use the rock to the back right to get onto it, be sure to have sound on, if you hear someone walking near you, hide behind the large boulder to your left (looking west, at the oposite side of which you are hiding) its pretty hidden back there, especially if you /sleep when trying to hide. (this is in the eastern pool in org)

Confirmed the Baby Croc trick about 5mins ago. Only hang-up was when I caught them both at once, I looted the croc first and then it told me "You cannot loot that at this time" when I tried to loot Old Crafty. Fished the pair up again and looted Crafty first and then the croc. Took maybe 12 casts or so.

My Brother and I are both Lvl 80 Allied. We spent several hours in Orgrimmar fishing for Old Crafty before going to Shatt to pick up the Crocolisks in the City fishing daily from Old Man Barlowe. Once we got the quest we headed immediately back to Orgrimmar. I Fished up both Old Crafty and the Croc on my 2nd cast. My brother fished them both up on his 5th cast.

While your there you may as well make a mad dash for Ragefire Chasm for the achievement.

Just got him tonight about 2 hours after I fished up Old Ironjaw.

Total fished for Old Crafty was:

Don't ask me how long Old Ironjaw took. I got my 1000 fish achievement long before he showed up. Atleast in IF I didn't have to worry about being ganked.

Confirmed that the Crocolisks in the City Daily increases your chances of catching old crafty. I have fished for both Old Crafty and Old Iron jaw putting in anywhere from 800-1400 casts per fish with no luck. Today the daily was Crocolisks in the city and I was fortunate enough to have caught Old crafty within 15 casts, just make sure not to loot the crocolisk.

I'm not sure if this is a hotfix for the crocolisk trick or not, but I just fished him up along with the croc, my auto-loot grabbed the croc right away, then asked if I really wanted to loot Old Crafty since he's BOP. I hit and it gave me the message "You can't loot that now." or something to that effect. Every time I tried to loot it again, it gave me the same error.

I don't know if it would have changed anything if my autoloot hadn't looted the croc before Old Crafty, but destroying the croc, then recasting didn't yield any more Crafties for about 10 minutes so I just looted the croc and figured I'd try again another day.

While going for the achievement to fish something up in Orgrimmar, I portalled from Shatt, jumped off the portal building and dropped in a line.

First cast - I got Old Crafty. My fiance, who had been trying for over a week, punched me and it hurt (even though she hits like a girl). But I had Old Crafty to console me.

So last night while doing the fishing daily in Org, on my first cast i get both the baby Croc and Old Crafty. I loot the baby Croc with no problems but then when I go to get Old Crafty I start getting a message every time I click on it that says "You can't loot that item now". I opened a ticket with Blizzard but they basically said "Sorry. nothing we can do." Pretty freakin lame! See screenshots below. Of course now I now its a known bug.

As alliance, when you go under the waterfall in the Valley of Heroes and there are already any horde fishers nearby, they will spot you (either by seeing you loot fish or maybe see the fishing line sticking out of the window). Just got ganked there and when corpse running back I saw that both my gankers were horde fishers as well.

Deep nighttime and not in weekends still seems the best time to fish there as alliance (without using that Jaina quest).

I was lucky in that it only took me 12 points in fishing (354-366, not sure how many casts this is) to catch this little bastard. I also took advantage of Jaina's portal to Orgrimmar to fish without risk of death, a big help in getting this little guy.

Caught this little fellah on 4th January 2009.. I just heard about someone yelling in Trade chat that finally it was the Crocolisk in the city daily, so I went to Shattrath, and yes it was the lovely quest, wich it havent been for months.. I teleported to Theremore, took a flight to Ratchet, mounted up and started running to the backdoor of Orgrimmar, I ran until I lost aggro from guards, started fishing, did a few casts, got the croc, desided to throw it away, and then bang there it was, Old Crafty and the croc in same catch! I looted both and got happy! Then another Alliance showed up, he got his too in a few minutes. Then we agreed to go to Ragefire Chasm for the achivement while we were in Orgrimmar..

Been chasing this fishy off n on since patch 3.0 something, the one just before WoLK's launch that intrduced us to acheivments, an hour here 20 mins there. Finally I talked with the resident fishing expert in my guild - they suggested just outside of the mage trainer hut (aka Darkbriar Lodge) in The Valley of Spirits . From there you will see a formation of 3 rocks - standing on the middle sized rock and casting towards the reeds along teh shoreline right by a palm tree I caught Old Crafty after about 25 casts or so.

Coords for this prime spot were 37:83 almost 37:84

To this day I have thrown over 1951 times into the ponds of Orgrimmar without the luck of catching this fish... even with the Baby Croc-quest.

I got my Old Ironjaw and Old crafty on same day. Got Old Ironjaw @ Forlorn Cavern after around 200 casts. And got my Old crafty at Valley of Spirits after 93 casts.

Old Ironjaw is not so hard to get on Magtheridon EU since it's like 5% population from allys so didn't meet a single alliance or so :)

The "bug" still works after Tuesday. I caught Old Crafty on 5 level 70+ characters, all except one, had fishing skill 1. I caught him in about 4-5 tries on each character. I did this on my two alliance toons and I have to say for any alliance character... DO this NOW before they patch it.

Confirmed that "Crocolisk in the City" still works on January 11th, 2009.

To make it even easier for Alliance, if you have not completed the Wrathgate quest line, and you can get into the phased version of Orgrimmar, you can fish him up without being attacked or bothered at all.

I just caught this a few days ago after fishing in orgrimmar for ages. Then I went to IF to catch Old IronJaw, which I thought would take a few days of fishing...I was wrong, after 30 tries of fishing in The Forlorn Cavern I got the old fish and I was like "wohoo, I'm awesome".
Then I started fishing in Orgrimmar again just to get higher skill, then something weird happened...I got 3 more Old Crafty within 4 minutes...
Awesome drop rate? Did they change the drop rate or did I just luck out?

was in the valley of spirits (behind the rock and tree) fishing for about 3hrs and nothing. then i got the crocolisk in the city daily and caught him on my 3rd cast. was suspicious of the 'glitch' at first and then tried it out of desperation and it was a joke how easy it was. (jan 15 09)

I woke up this morning and i thought 2 my self, im gonna go fishing to day.
i strapped on my boots bought a rod from the closest vendor and went to the trainer to learn how to cast.
Stood in the lake and cast my rod. i was fishing for an hour till i caught my first glimpse of him.

he swam past with great speed and before i knew it he stole my bait. that's when i became obsessed. i had to get that fish.

i started with my skill level of 0 and ended at 212.

i caught 455 fish and then i had him, on the end of my line, me jumping with joy.

all in all i took home

62 smallfish
2 17 pound catfish
2 19 pound catfish
1 bloated mud snapper

In Reference to the "Crocolisks in the City" theory, I can't guarantee that it works; as I didn't get him right away, and I could have just gotten lucky.

However, given some of the numbers other people have given, and my general luck, it does seem to help.

I spent about 15 min fishing in Valley of Spirit, and another 15 min fishing in the Valley of Honor, before I caught him.

got me from 304-316 fishing skill

I caught and threw back several Crocolisks, and did NOT catch one on the same cast as Old Crafty. He came by himself.

Not sure if location matters, but I caught him standing on the rocks, facing away from the waterfall.

Can anyone confirm that the "Crocs in the City" Exploit no longer works after 3.0.8?

At least 7 of us were fishing in orgrimmar, following the exploit perfectly, each of us caught 200+ fish with no sign of crafty.

This is one of these items that makes a Greed window pop up.
So don't make the mistake as I did to keep hitting the fishing bubble once it's moving and click the fishing button right after it.

If you do this while catching Crafty, the window will just dissapear and you'll have to start all over with you're 1 out of a milion casts to get it again.

I dont know if it helps any but my husband (level 200 in fishing) had caught old Crafty and when he showed me where he sat, probably within 5 minutes, I also caught Old Crafty. (lvl 348) Go to the pond where the Fishing trainer/supplier are. Sit on the rocks (coords 71/29) Fish to the right of the dock where the trainer and supplier are. Maybe this will work, maybe it wont for you, but just wanted to tell the information of where my husband and I both caught Old Crafty.

I've recently tried doing the crocolisk daily trick, and as of 3.0.8, it seems like it no longer works. I sat in Orgrimmar in both fishing areas for a good hour or 2 without looting the croc, and never found Old Crafty.

This Fish does exist!

So i was just fishing with my buddy Dhatchet on the Sargeras server. We were in the Valley of Spirits, and started behind the rock right behind the Priest Trainer. I was like you know what man screw this, after a warlock attacked us. So i went out into the open where the rocks are at next to the portal room( the steps across the water to the priest trainer room) And sat down there and started fishing. My buddy did the same. A few horde came by thought it was akward, 2 guys at different times from the horde guild Exile attacked us. But other than that most just danced and cheered.

After 3 hours of fishing out in the open, I finally got Old Crafty! i submitted a screenshot but here is a link to my photobucket.

It is just awfull... Blizzard should really do something about this... It is not normal to fish 5-6 hours in enemy territory to try catching a fish...
So... i am at my 1000+ cast for this damn fish... i fished at water fall i fished in valley of spirit... i got 50 levels fishing from 400 to 450 with average catch for level of 13 fishes... For 2 days since level 450 i fish in Orgrimmar without any luck. I will continue fishing since i wanna see how many used hours blizzard makes us waste on such a dumb thing!
BLIZZARD - get your head straight and resolve this drop rate! You can remove "bugs" but you can not increase a drop rate? Shame on you!

Amazing. After hundreds of tries for Old Ironjaw with no luck in IF, I fish up Old Crafty in Org. Some stats:

During the Retaking of Undercity Chain
Valley of Honor on the rocks just to the right of the docks (71.29)
26 casts(!) Skilled from 342 - 345

I had already fished up the baby croc for Crocolisks in the City in Ironforge, but I kept it in my bags. Odd, that. I think I'll go try for Ironjaw again before going further in the quest chain. I'll let you know if I have any luck. ;)

As of 3.0.8 I can confirm that the Crocolisks in the City exploit no longer works, I did 250 casts in at the waterall in Orgrimmar's Valley of Honor so far with the quest in my log. Caught 7 Baby Crocolisks but not a single Old Crafty.

I've pulled a couple hundred fish out of Ogrimmar waters since 3.0.8 and no Crafty. I'm also fishing the instance version of Ogrimmar so it may be that or just bad luck but I'm going to try the other pond for another couple hundred fish then battle my way in and see if I have any better luck in the real ogrimmar...

If you are not at max fishing skill, make sure your skill is not capped. You will probably do quite a lot of fish catching, so you may as well get skill points for it.

I'm not clear what you mean by this - If you are using lures or equipment to increase your fishing skill, you can still gain skill ups even if the bonuses put you above the fishing skill cap. Fishing skill ups just become rarer the closer that you get to the cap.

I'm trying it for 3 days as a Night Elf Death Knight on Frostmane realm.

First day i've been on Valley of Spirits. Took of all my gear, get on the Deathcharger and pushed to the valley. As soons as i get there, used Shadowmeld to lose aggro from the Grunts and waited till the path was clear, then went behind the big hut. Easy to fish here but, as told in another comment above, people can "hear" you fish. So, if they hear you there, you're screwed, due the damn high people movement there (portals).

Second day i went to the Valley of Honor. Mounted and pushed to there, died like 2 times on my way (Damn Lvl 58) and, as soon as i've got into the river, Shadowmelded. Thank God i have really bad luck and when i was Shadowmelded waiting for people to leave so i can run to the waterfall, a 80 Orc Warrior just passed by my side and killed me, lol. Returned to the Drag, then i just ressed on the waterfall and /lied down on the stones in front of it. Nice to fish there too but sometimes people can see you.

The best place i found for myself was the waterfall. I know its hard to see the Bobber when you there, but here's a tip: Go the the Video Menu, then Effects tab and put you Spell Detail on Mininum. You will barely see the waterfall and can fish for life there. It's nice on the stones in front of it too, but i think you will get unseen at the waterfall, unless people are REALLY looking for you.

Leveled my fishing skill from 225 to 270 there and still no fish... Well.. i was thinking on going to Outland only when i reach 300 Fishing, so i think i got a long time to catch this Crafty one :D

And i noticed aswell that... when you're at the stones in front of the waterfall, like 15% of your casts will land in boulders where you cannot click to fish. On the waterfall, not only one cast was unclickable to me... so i think there's the better place! Just put your spell detail on minimun!

I must be ungodly lucky. I managed to fish up Old Ironjaw in IF in about 7 casts. Laughed like a maniac (I'd expected to be there hours), hearthed to Dalaran, and made my way to Org. I managed to get Old Crafty in 13 minutes, with a 3% chance of being fished up, so I guess I was perhaps 30 casts in when I got him. All in less than an hour.

You may hate me now.

Edit - I had 249 fishing with a normal pole, no extras, for Ironjaw. Picked up Crafty at 253 or so.

im on safe Orgri, with crocolisks in the city on my questlog fishing for old crafty. When i began i had like 220 fishing skill. Now I have 330 skill and still no sign of him.

What leads me to conclude that the crock daily bug no longer exists. And I even wonder if old crafty is fishable on the "safe" orgri.

Did this on my human warlock, and I disagree with those that say you should run to the waterfall. You lose a lot of time because of the bobber landing out of your line of site. I did it behind the rock and tree in the valley of spirits. Only a couple times did a horde player notice me (usually a priest or someone getting training in one of the buildings).

Make sure you don't click your cast button too quickly if you use autoloot, because it will ask you "are you sure you want to loot this?" and if you move or re-cast, old crafty will be gone... Just learned that one the hard way.

My original objective was to level my fishing and to get the 1000 Fish achievement. Being in Orgrimmar, I decided to do the Old Crafty Achievement. And what was I thinking, getting myself into this. For almost 11 hours, I fished in both of the ponds and not once did I get that crafty fish until I decided to give up and threw the last cast in. I was even ready to talk to a GM when all of a sudden I caught him. I swear I had a relapse when I saw that BoP box pop up.

This is my final tally of what I fished up:

189 - Raw Brilliant Smallfish
2 - 17 Pound Catfish

I love to fish in real life and on WoW, and I had one hell of a time with this quest. I Just want to take Old Crafty and beat him to a senseless pulp. Maybe feed him to an ogre, kill the ogre and take Old Crafty back to feed him to another one. As much trouble he gave me, he deserves it!

My final words for Old Crafty and for anyone willing to take the time finding him are these...

1) Grab a case of beer, your choice.
2) Sit Back and Relax.
3) Pray very hard that you don't end up waiting as long as I did.
4) If all else fails and you give up, try one more time....

With that said and done, I wonder what Old Ironjaw will have in store for me.

Just goes to show that anyone's luck will come around; don't give up now!

I was at 39, 84 in the Valley of Spirits. If you go right around the back of one of the houses, there is a palmtree with a chunky base there that easily obscures you (and more importantly, your bright-red name!) from opposing players.

After two hours I finally caught Old Crafty. Here's how my battle breaks down.

My initial fishing skill was 100 with the +25 fishing pole.
On my 248th cast I finally received a lesser mana potion instead of one of the raw fish and that brought my skill up to 189.
My 297th cast was finally Old Crafty and my fishing skill was 199.
I didn't get anything but him and the one lesser mana potion that was out of the ordinary.

I found a way to avoid being spotted. After reading everything I could on this, I stripped completely naked for my run into Orgrimmar, and headed to the back entrance on my mount. I was naked so that in the event someone spotted me, hopefully they would realize I was just there to fish, and that if they attacked me anyway, I wouldn't have to worry about repairs. My title was turned off to reduce my name, and I ran straight for the Valley of Spirits. I quickly found the building had a back area where one was very well hidden and after shaking the guards, I immediately /sleep to reduce my profile and started casting. For those with coordinates, the location I found was around 38.5, 88.0. It's practically invisible back there and it's not as far as the waterfall in Valley of Honor so I would highly recommend it for Alliance players.

I was extremely lucky as I found the slippery devil after just forty-four casts.

Old Crafty still drops when phased in Ogrimmar. It just takes a while. I was standing on the shore, facing the rocks, in the Valley of Spirits.

I did not have the Crocolisk quest.

Old Crafty was the 2182nd thing I had fished up in Ogrimmar. It took quite a while.

I also went up 253 fishing lvls.

I know that there is a bit of a debate on whether the baby croc fishing daily still affects the drop rate of old crafty, and there is also some debate on whether or not old crafty can be caught in the 'phased' Org for alliance characters.

As of today (April 7th 2009) I got me my baby croc fishing daily and I am sitting in the Valley of Spirits in the phased Org fishing. Now according to all of the previous exploit reports people generally caught old crafty within a couple casts. I think the most I saw was within the first 20 casts while using the baby croc exploit.

I'm currently up to about 50 casts, and no sign of old crafty as of yet. I'll update if he shows up.

I just caught this guy a few days ago. Came on here to see what the % was. Doesn't seem to be very high for some of you.

I decided to make my very first twink, and picked up the fishing skill so I could go after the hat from the STV tourney. So 1 night, I decided to level my fishing from 1, all the way to 150. I didn't even know this fish existed, until I caught him on my 2nd cast. That's right...2 casts. I did nothing special at all, besides the Bauble thing (we all know how bad fishing is at low levels, everything gets away).

It worked out perfectly too, since I'm a twink hunter. 1h axe in 1 hand, and old crafty in the other with his very useful +5 stamina boost.

Old Crafty was my 499th catch.

I spent 2.5 hours on my first stakeout in Orgrimmar. The following night, after having logged out in Orgrimmar (since I am Alliance), I caught him within 10 minutes.

My Advice: Don't try to do it in one sitting. Take it 30 minutes or an hour at a time, and then just play an alt for awhile in between sessions. Superstitious maybe, but at the end you'll be less frustrated about the amount of time you spent fishing.

P.S. Elixir of Camouflage is a great idea.

It looks like you can no longer fish in the phased orgimmar after 3.1.0. I've thrown 3 casts and there has been nothing on the line. It'll act like I caught something, but I'll get nothing out of it.

Today I caught Old Crafty near the fishing trainer after three casts. I also caught Baby Crocolisk during the same cast, so either the bug was re-implemented with 3.1, or I'm just extremely lucky.

Got my strong fishing pole, lucky fishing hat, and a +100 lure, fell asleep next to the fishing trainer in Org and started fishing. 7 min and 30 casts later caught old crafty. I thought this was going to be painful like catching Mr. Pinchy...but no way.

Took about 7 hours of fishing in Orgrimmar (over a few sessions) to finally catch, Old Crafty.

I lost track of how many fish I had caught in that time, but I'd estimate 1500+

I caught about 8 potions, 6 greens (including the 1 ring), 10-15 "weighted" fish, and a truckload of the regular catches. In total I was only ganked 1 time, but I did log off a few times to avoid problems.

It was a hell of a tedious achievement, but it does add a sense of satisfaction. Especially considering that I caught, Old Ironjaw on the 2nd cast. :)

Advice:
If you fish near the waterfall, your bobber will go into a wall. Sometimes making it "unclickable." If this happens, quickly recast. I suspect I could have lost an Old Crafty by not being able to click the bobber on more than one occasion.

I would be surprised if the drop rate was changed. Luck works like that. I caught, Old Ironjaw, on my 2nd cast. It took well over 7 hours for, Old Crafty.

Think of it like the lottery. Someone could buy one ticket and win. Most people could spend their entire lives doing nothing but buying lottery tickets every day and not win. Just because that person won the lottery doesn't mean that everyone will be so lucky.

I guess I was just lucky with mine..... I didn't time it out to the minute like some people did... only took slightly over an hour as an 80 troll mage.

This achievement seriously drove me insane.

I was pretty decent at not missing many casts, but occasionally I would miss one that landed in the rocks, or someone else would be fishing and I happen to misclick.

Regardless, my stats after many hours of fishing are:

I fished next to a tauren, and then I see him get the old crafty achievement, I say grats and keep fishing, later he goes "Lol, just got it again" a bit later he got the 100 fish achievement... Some people are just incredibly lucky

Do NOT assume this will be a "quick" grind of an hour or two.

I was in Org for the midsummer fire quest and thought I would stop by and get Old Crafty while I was there. I have maxed out fishing skill and was fishing from under the waterfall in Valley of Honor. Valley of Spirits doesn't seem to let you fish there anymore.

Results:

5 1/2 hours fishing (no breaks)

1020 fish - total of the three kinds
3 17lbs fish
1 22lbs fish
2 19lbs fish
1 bloated fish (tigereye - big whoop)
2 heal potion
1 mana potion

0 old crafty

ZERO OLD CRAFTY

You may get lucky and get him sooner, good for you. Just don't do like I did and think this would be a matter of fishing for a little bit, it is extremely long and frustrating.

If you have the endurance, go for it, I wish you luck.

I also got Old Ironjaw quickly, within five minutes. And again two casts later. Maybe if you do good on one you are doomed for the other....

This experience has been trying and painful. Over the past 1.5 days I have spent I'd say about 6-8 hours fishing. I fished 1049 fish up Orgrimmar. 1049! the last being old crafty. Here are my stats:

I will not post something poetical, I will cut to the chase.
I did this on my level 44 gnome warlock, which is progressing and aiming to be a 49 twink. This was supposed to be an easy bonus, as I gained this (wrong) impression of this fish by all the "I got it in 402 casts!"-posts. I started by fishing in the Valley of Spirits behind the cabin, but I never felt safe. My experience is that people check here more often. After around 3 days, I decided to spend 10 more wipes and reach the waterfall in Valley of Honor. I fished practically untouched here, except for an idiot named Chundeath, a green-geared death knight which logged at my fishing spot. I don´t know how many hours I spent, but I know how many fish I fished before I got it. Here is my results;

Remarkable catches:
Old Crafty x1
Green Leather Bag x1
Simple Gloves x1
Infantry Gloves x1
22 Pound Catfish x1
Bloated Mudfish x2

Other stuff:
Lesser Healing Potion x A lot.
19 Pound Catfish x A lot.
17 Pound Catfish x A lot.

Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper x Loads.

Total Fish:

As a Night Elf druid, i was fishing in Orgrimmar for over 10 and a half hour now in a row, still i didn't got Old Crafty....

My fishing skill went from 213 to 432. I was fishing in the spot, what Olfan mentions, though i have found it before i read his comment.

I don't know how much fishes i caught, but i started at 605 total catches and reached about 2700+ total catches last time i checked (I don't know exactly).

The only problem with that spot, which is mediocre, because you are practically invisible for the horde, is that your cast can land in a wall, or you get LoS'd by the two stones (or at least i did fish facing the stones, so i could get a better camera angle on the incoming hordes.)

Got ganked 2 times, and killed 6 hordies (3 honorable). I will update this post as soon as i catch that devil of a fish.

EDIT: Okay, fished for a little more time (about 5 hours) and decided to give up. This fish is not for me.

Just fished in Orgrimmar for this guy, after 9 hours of constant fishing I finally caught it. I even got a horde guy to help me out!

I decided to level up fishing for the achievements, so I figured doing 1-450 in org would be the best choice because of Old Crafty.

I started getting annoyed from levels 300-400, but on my 2157th cast I nailed him. (Around level 408/450)

It worked out amazingly because in the process I got the 1000 Fish, Grand Master Fisherman, and half of the Fishing Diplomat achievements done.

So if your thinking of speed leveling fishing, go Orgrimmar or Ironforge (For Old Ironjaw if your Alliance) all the way!

Got ganked twice. After the 2nd time a few more horde's showed up and waited on my body for me to respawn. Took them 15 min before they left. Hearthstoned out, luckily cause a hunter was apparently tracking humanoids and came to try to hit me (saw before my screen changed).

As Alliance, I had more luck at the Valley of Honor than the Valley of Spirits simply because there were less people around no matter what time of day. Got jumped several times near the portal, during which time I only managed to catch the following:
Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper - 254
Bloated Mud Snapper - 1 (contained Shadowgem)
Raw Brilliant Smallfish - 70
Raw Bristle Whisker Catfish - 78
19 Pound Catfish - 2

After that I gave up and headed over to the waterfall in Valley of Honor where I found the perfect fishing spot behind the rocks, but just in front of the waterfall itself. Visibility is really poor unless you tilt your camera angle so you're looking from directly overhead. This way you have quite a view of the pool in front of the falls so you can see incoming Horde (if any) and you also have a great view of your bobber even if it's cast into the rocks as so frequently happens. Just mouse over the rocks and you sometimes find the bobber clickable. If not, simply recast and keep going. In this spot I didn't get jumped even once, and I caught:
Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper - 144
Raw Brilliant Smallfish - 40
Raw Bristle Whisker Catfish - 40
17 Pound Catfish - 1
Lesser Mana Potion - 1
Lesser Healing Potion - 1

Going by the number of nightcrawlers I used in my entire time there, I estimate it took less than 150 minutes to fish him up. By the way, did this as a level 63 balance druid, so getting jumped usually meant getting one-shotted, and also, running over to Valley of Honor meant endless corpse runs because of all the higher level guards between The Drag and there, but it was worth it in the end to be left alone by players once I got there. Only reason I persisted was because I'd just fished up Old Ironjaw right before and wanted the matching pair :) Between these 2 guys, the coins from the Dalaran fountain and the sewer rat, I'd be happy if I never fished again in my life... or until the next Stranglethorn event <sigh>

Fishing in the waterfall in the Valley of Honor.
I have Crocolisks in the City.
I finished the Wraithgate event but do not currently have the quest to go to Orgrimmar with Jiana ( abandoned it ).
Maxed fishing with the purple warlus people fishing pole.

All my casts return empty windows. I dont catch ANYTHING except for the the baby crocolisk every now and then but thats it. No regular fish, no junk, no potions, etc etc.

Got a GM ticket in to see if they locked down fishing from after Wraithgate until you complete the battle for undercity....

1:00 A.M. - I decide to level my cooking and fishing. Started fishing in the TB pond, then I thought of this achievement and thought eh wtf it's one in a million but i might actually catch this if i level in org.......went to org at 75 fishing, at level 113 guess who showed up :D
I couldn't believe it, I'm assuming I'm very lucky cause I thought he was rare as hell, anyway I'm glad I got him cause leveling fishing is the most mind numbing aspect of this game. I guess I should go level the rest in IF for the other fish huh ;)

btw, I didn't use anything but a strong fishing pole that gives like the +5 fishing or whatever, cause I got some whispers in trade asking what I used for bait. What? c'mon of course I linked it in trade, who wouldn't? :P

BTW alliance, It is impossible to get this fish while on the quest Fate, up against your will. ALSO note that after abandoning the quest, Orgrimmar will still be "different" and it will not be possible to catch the fish. In other words, you have to complete the quest(line?) to go back and fish in Org.

I found it helped alot using the /lie emotion, cause draeneis kindof stand out :P. Bringing a vendor and perhaps some invisibility pots may also come in handy.

Finally got the elusive one. Took 1h 53m and ~300 casts, stuff that I caught:

Died 5 or 6 times because of nasty hordies (me being a yummy Gnome). To avoid corpse running try to fish there at night and during quiet hours. Behind the big rocks and waterfall in Valley of Honor (at 66,26) is a nice place to hide away from the ugly ones.

This is driving me crazy. My baby 'lock fished up not one but TWO Old Crafties. One at skill 44 (!) and another at 100-something.

My shadow priest, on the other hand, has her fishing skill COMPLETELY maxed out and has cast over 600 times. No old crafty.

Random catch is definitely very random.

I was leveling fishing on an alt today in Org. Hit 26 fishing and up came Crafty.

I have multiple level 80s and have never been able to catch him. Funny how drops work..

I'm ally night elf druid so I was nervous about this. I went in the west side bridge, stealthed in cat form. I stayed in the shallows by the Valley of the Spirits. Took off all my gear so it wouldn't break if someone came at me. Then I fished. One guy came up and blew me a kiss after I /cower. The next group poned me. The rest all danced with/flirted with me...prolly because I was a naked female night elf! But I got Old Crafty after about an hour. Good luck!

Caught him roughly fifteen minutes after starting to fish specifically for him. My fishing rank was exactly 200 when I caught him. Was using a Strong Fishing Pole and an Aquadynamic Fish Attractor.

Here's a neat tip for alliance doing this in OG: go to Valley of Honor and there to the waterfall.

Now if you just stand somewhere and fish, your fishing bobber will land in rocks very often or it's not visible because of the blooming waterfall. Go to the three big rocks southern in the waterfall area, stand on the right one (seen from waterfall) so you are hidden, turn yourself to the city, and fish.

You can fish through the stone, are not visible, and the bobber will never land where you can't click it. If you don't know what I mean I can post a screenshot.

Don't forget to go naked and it's best if you do the achievement while your fishing skill is not capped. I got from zero to 475 only doing this achievement and fishing dailies.

900 catches in IF until I got the other one, and 700 for this one..

PS: I think that your fishing skill is not relevant for those two, e.g. you could learn fishing and do it, I don't recall the exact skill level I had (you could prolly math it out with ~900 tries and the fishing skill progression. I think I was well under 300 (like 280 or so) when I caught ironjaw.

It seems I might be maybe the luckiest of all? I wasn't even trying for him, just sort of going for my 100 Fish achievement, was just about to give up and turn away, when I caught "Old Crafty". My results were:

Fished in the Valley of Spirits for ~2.5 hours while watching a movie Tuesday night; no luck there.
Moved to the Valley of Honor, on the bank near the waterfall, and fished ~30 minutes before I caught Old Crafty!

I don't have a complete track, but I fished around 5200 fish. Getting the 1 ring TWICE, along with two different patterns and about 5 greens.

Took me like, a week total of just sitting around inbetween dungeon runs.

While working my way towards 2 meta achievements (Classic Dungeon Master and Explorer), I decided to stop into Orgrimar for a friendly game of RUNFORMYLIFE!KILLPATSANDHIDE!. Well, needless to say it took me a couple tries to actually get tucked away under that beautiful waterfall in the North East quadrant of Org. At this point, I decided to check Wowhead for any info that might help. As suggested above, I did the following:

-Installed Hazfish and NoBoPWarning;
-Turned off my music (sorry Coheed and Cambria);
-Turned the Sound FX WAY up, and everything else off;
-Grabbed a book of short stories;
-Click, read, click, repeat.

After about an hour of fishing-and one close call of a level 80 spotting me (switched to an alt for an hour or so)-I had the glorious sound occur which was, as always, indicative of me getting an achievement! That's right! I had now officially caught 250 fish!

...Bah.

Kept fishing for a little while longer and eventually came up with Old Crafty!

Not sure how much this will help everyone, but I just fished him up in the Valley of Spirits. I was leveling up my fishing in between queues for random dungeons and to my surprise it just happened. I wasn't really trying for him, although I needed the achievement. My skill is 113, I got him after about 20-30 casts. It appears he really is just a random, lucky catch. Caught this after about 700-800 casts in the waterfall in the Valley of Honour, and I myself am an Alliance player.

I got ganked a few times despite being fairly well hidden. What I did was whenever I got killed, I logged out immediately and logged into a horde character and politely asked the person to stop killing me as I was going for this achievement and wasn't intending on causing any harm. This worked for me because every time I ran back to my corpse and resurrected, they had left me alone. I can't guarantee that this will always work, but it did for me and may just help keep people from camping you a little bit if you're Alliance as well. Bare in mind that there will be people out there who will go out of their way to spoil your day.

I also used some of the tips previously listed on here such as turning on the 'Sound in Background' setting so that you can browse the web whilst waiting for a bite and turning on auto loot (the Bind on Pickup warning didn't come up for me so you no longer need to worry about that, as previously confirmed multiple times)

Remember to be patient and good luck! :)

I also tryed the Old Crafty, and actually caught him at last.
As a level 48 night elf druid, it was not easy to get into Orgrimmar, especially because of my not knowing of the backdoor. So after a dozen of dead/release/run for my corpse, I reached the pool near the portals, this was just before I read about not going there because of high density of players. I was able to fish for one or two hours, rather well hidden against the big wall, as far as i could of the portal, time during which 2 level 80 spotted me, /greet ed me, and went away, and then I got killed by another level 80. I tryed another 30 min in the same spot but got killed again, so I decided to change my spot and go in the other pool.
Fifteen d/r/rfmc later, I am fishing in the second pool, but I realise that this is NOT better than the first one, indeed though much less people go that way, there is a lot of people who jump from the cliff and end up on the pool, and often just on your head, and often they kill you right away. Do not try to fish in the falls, it's a mess you cannot see you'r bobber nor click on it (at least with my configuration), and your eyes will soon stop seeing as the effects are blinding.
However, I met a bunch of nice people, who spared me (most of them actually, out of pity, comprehension or because they wouldn't care enough to dismount), and sometimes even fished with me.
I finally caught him after 3-4 hours of fishing, I started 225 and ended up 322, got about 600-700 fish (I did not keep track). I had to go take the Master Fisherman skill, so I used a trick with a friend, since we are under "refer a friend" (I started wow a mounth ago) I summoned him in Orgrimmar, used my hearthstone, did what I had to do, and then he summoned me and used his hearthstone, so I was able do go back without all the dying stuff.
As a last word I would say that fishing as a level 48 might be far easier than as a level 80, people were kind and would spare me, which they wouldn't do if I were level 80.

This is probably the most clever tip I have read for Alliance players who wish to fish Old Crafty without any pesky PVP action.

If the link goes away or the comment gets erased, the OP stated that before he completed the "Battle for the Undercity" event (at which time all the horde cities, including Orgrimmar are phased), you can go fish without any other players or even NPC's.

If you don't know what "Battle for the Undercity" is, you just need to complete Veteran of the Wrathgate and at some time you will go to Stormwind and Jaina opens a portal to Undercity. If you port to UC you will do a rather neat event, but if you don't do the event right away, you can fish Old Crafty!

As an alliance player on a PVP server, I really don't know how I'm going to cast 1500 times without getting my butt handed to me.

This achievement is not possible to complete during the 'Fate, Up against your will' questline. As a matter of fact, you can not catch a single fish at all. The blobber will splash, but when you click it, <fishing> will fade.

Logging out after horde has discovered you helps, also gives you a break. Elixir of camouflage definitely kept hunters off my back. Don't give up! Took me about 8 hours including breaks.

Since the shattering there are lvl 85 guards all over Orgrimmar, so very hard to get in even at 80 as an alliance player. Valley of Spirits is still the way to go imo. I hope i can fish it up soon.

I just wanted to say that I just caught this little guy. I've been trying since Burning Crusade started... I caught him once but was auto-looting and it got away. Easily 10,000 or more casts... DAYS worth of fishing in Orgrimmar... But he is mine at last...

Definitely don't have auto-loot on or use shift+looting while trying for this little bugger.

As of current patch I confirm that this shy little bugger can be caught in the new pond in Valley of Wisdom. It took me about two nights and early mornings to fish him up as a lvl 70 Worgen Rogue. If you're going for this achievement as an ally I recommend the following:

Fly to the waterfall in Valley of Wisdom. Keep above the winged patrols that constantly scout Orgrimmar until you're directly above the waterfall.
Wait until there are no flying patrol below you, dismount and drop down into the pond. Stealth/turn invisible if possible (there might be some hordies there as well, although that's fairly uncommon) and head for the giant plant/bush/whatever to the left of the waterfall.
Sit down behind the plant/bush/whatever, activate your own name tag in Interface - Names - My Name to make sure your name tag is completely invisible from behind the plant/bush/whatever. For the untrained eye, you should now be completely invisible!
Fish away! Ganking is inevitable, especially with hunters around, but they usually get bored after 1-2 kills.

Follow this for a minimum amount of ragecaps. I tried fishing on pretty much every spot in Orgrimmar, and this was the only one where I didn't get raped by guards.

This Winter Veil it's possible to get a MiniZep Controller which summons a tiny toy zeppelin. Use this to scout the pond for hordies every now and then if you don't want to move from your comfortable seat on the plant/bush/whatever.

Maybe they have increased the drop rate. My fishing lvl is 103 and i used the lvl 1 fishing rod with no lure.

I was just travelling org and went past the valley of wisdom and saw these toons fishing, so i join them.

After 3 casts .... I got Old crafty and the achievement and everyone start saying gratz and all.

...and thats why i came to wowhead to check up whats so special about this fish.

Seems being on A Staggering Effort fishing daily quest increases your chance of catching him quite dramatically.

Yesterday I had the quest and caught him on the first cast. Today, same daily quest and, again, first cast I catch him...very strange.

Earlier this month my lvl 40 alt gets it the same day a fellow guildie gets it.

The lvl 40 alt got it again a week later.

Today my lvl 18 banker got it (was trying to get him to 20 and a mount)

And my main still needs it. I think Blizz is trying to gaslight me.

I think I had a glitch two days ago. I was fishing in org (goblin slums) for a daily and within 5 min of starting I had caught old crafty twice. Then wow had a fatal error and shut down. Once I restarted the game I didnt catch him again.

During the 8 hours I stayed here, I only saw 3 hordies - who all kindly left me alone to fish. :D

I had fished for this pretty regularly on one character with no luck. Today I was on my mage doing my fishing daily and I got him in my second cast up in the goblin slums. My fishing skill was only 263+20 (from my fishing pole, nat pagle's extreme angler) and I had only made...about 20 casts total in Orgrimmar during this character's fishing training. I just sat there and stared at my screen for a while thinking it was a joke. :T

Few Horde have reason to fly over this part of the city. City guards don't aggro, though some do fly overhead. Fishing is easy here as the river is wide and deep enough to cast successfully. Watch yourself flying to this point as those flying guards will aggro if you get too close. I found it's easiest to fly at maximum altitude over the city and dive down when the coast is clear.

I was looking through the list of achievements on my new main dealing with the horribly glitched horde bg ques.

Needless to say I went through the fishing ones. I remembered I missed fishing which I haven't done for a while... Came to wowhead after glancing at the old crafty achieve and set about to doing it after reading about it's difficulty and getting pretty excited.

About 5 fish after I got the 50 fish achieve BAM old crafty.

Finally! I have tried off and on for about two years to catch Old Crafty. Was near Orgrimmar trying to catch some winter squid. It was approximately 4:30 a.m., so I figured what the heck? Maybe the horde were sleeping, and I wasn't, so might as well give it another try. Used everything already recommended here: flew in, went to the bottom of the tallest waterfall in Valley of Honor. Used an Elixir of Camouflage, removed my Loremaster title, went to sleep - /sleep - and fished. Thankfully, saw very few horde, none saw me. After only:
6 Raw Brilliant Smallfish
36 Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper, and
12 Raw Bristle Whisker Catfish
Old Crafty was finally out-crafted by me!

EDIT: oh yeah, almost forgot, caught on an alt with 81 fishing skill, so seems to be very little of a lower limit as to required level to catch him.

Got Old Crafty last night! It took me two days, and with only two deaths. I fished in the The Valley of Honor on the water fall just after you enter the zone. A couple of tricks you can do is first fish sitting against a wall with your title off. This reduces the size of your visable name, and hides most of you! If you have a second of account go make a Tauren, and have him sit on top of you! Last go buy yourself some Elixir of Camouflage! If you can't be tracked you are pretty much invisible with these tricks.

Hey guys. Started to go for Old crafty and got him at about 300+ casts. Recommended to go to the goblin slums for this Achv. However those with BC go to old man barlow in teko forest and get the daily for 'baby crocolisk' guarantee you will fish old crafty in under 20 casts. I just did (:
This goes for those trying for ironjaw aswell.

Same goes for those trying to do the sea turtle mount. Get the daily "ghostfish' from Marcia in dalaran. Head to sholazar basin. Sea turtle mount under 20 casts.

Fishing lvl 450+ Nats lucky fishing pole + baubles. = 575 fishing lvl total.

Guys if you want to do this the easy way. Get the dailies. Just discard the quest item if you get it before the mount.

Ive done about 800 casts now as an allaince lvl 29 rogue gnome and i cant get oldcrafty. i lost track of how much of each fish i caught because i keep having to delete fish from my bag if i leave i wont be able to come back tell im 85 because it took me about an hour to get in because i had to death hop or whatever its called ive died about 50 times and caught 5 17 pounders 2 19 pounders a mana potion and 2 lvl 14 green items. Im wondering if im in the wrong place for it . Im between the tree and the waterfall in the valley of wisdom. can someone please tell me another safe place with no guards and were horde payers wont see you this is ridicoulous.

Perhaps this is done easier at a lower fishing level when some of the bigger fish are not possible to be caught. I just started a new character and began fishing off the dock next to the trainer in the Valley of Honor.

I caught Old Crafty on the 78th cast, the same one that raised my skill level to 79. Caught primarily junk and Mudjaw Snappers, a few of the catfish and perhaps two smallfish and one lesser healing potion. I was using the regular baubles that are available there as well.

Tip to Alliance Hunters, Rogues, Druids, and Night Elves: Fish in the pool at the top of the waterfall and Stealth when the 3 man flying patrol comes by. It's about every two minutes. If you don't have track humans, just bring some tracking food. I know I got my catch really quickly, but it took me over 4000 casts for Ironjaw, so everything in balance : )

I got Old Crafty after 60 catches, woohoo. I hadnt fished there at all so I got the fishing diplomat too. Basically start at the south of Org at the gates, and fly north until you see the waterfall, watch out for flying guards and then fly right down when everything looks clear. You'll always be safe from guards. If a horde bugs you, you could try making a temporary horde character and asking the guy to plzz let you fish there and they probably will. I'm a lock so I had meself soul stoned at all times to make sure I dont have to travel all that distance to get back to my corpse.
I got lucky with just 60 catches. I know for sure Old Ironjaw in Ironforge wont be easy easy, ha. I'll probably have to do something like 600 catches. They always seem to detect if you've been lucky and then reduce your luck factor. Either that or its just random :D. Yea probably that.

I have many a good memory of this fish. When I first started playing WoW a couple years ago I had a mild obsession with achievements. One day I was looking through and saw The Fishing Diplomat and thought to myself "Piece of cake!" After that I took my level 30something Alliance toon and spent a couple hours corpse running to the fishing spot in Orgrimmar and got the achievement. I was happy with myself but while I was corpse running I was looking at achievements and saw the one for Old Crafty so I thought to myself "Hell, I've gone through this much trouble, I may as well stay until I get him."

I spent a few hours fishing and dying in Orgrimmar trying to get the fish to no avail, but I kept at it, I was determined to get this fish. Throughout the day various Hordies would come fish with me, some would kill me, some would just hang out and watch me, I remember at one point a guy called over a bunch of his guildies to fish with me which was pretty cool. One of the more memorable moments I have was when a rogue sneaked up and one shot me, by the time I got back to my body one of the Hordies fishing with me was dueling the rogue that killed me and was absolutely stomping him in the nuts. At some point I found out that people were talking about me in Trade chat because somebody hopped onto an Ally toon to let me know, so various things like this happened more often for the next couple days.

On the third day I fished for a couple hours with the usual hordies hanging out or killing me, I had garnered quite the audience. Finally, after the many many many grueling hours of corpse running, I caught him! I /y well knowing that nobody would understand me but I was still ecstatic. I started dancing with joy and all of the Hordies hanging out with me started dancing as well, I wish I had gotten a screenshot of it to this day. I bowed and started to Hearth, finally achieving m

While I was only 15 casts in on the 16th i fished this thing up..I decided to look it up and see what kind of drop rate and how often people got him.. Not sure if it helps anyone - caught him on my lvl 15 rogue doing the daily quest "A Staggering Effort" in Valley of Wisdom. Had fished up the quest objective, the sandy carp, and decided since her fishing was only at 16 or so, to get it up to 25 before stopping. Caught him before hitting 25, and also had the Weather-Beaten Journal in my quest reward bag, like another poster said.

Sadly, my fishing toon is my max level priest, and she's never seen Old Crafty, despite hours of trying.

This is typical farming achievement, and looks like I will be farming this for a long time.
My stats of casts/catches is probably the typical for most people, be ready to farm for this achievement, we're not all luckies.
Although got old ironjaw on 173 casts, and sea turtle on 12 casts, but it's another story, when doing an achievement like these u should count on doing them for a long time.

Hope no one is getting mad at me for saying this, but i caught the fish "Old Crafty" when i just was started playing wow.
My friend who have played wow for a long time, told me if completed some fishing daily quests, i maybe could get a fisherman hat thing. So i started complete some daily quests, and when i was on my 3rd daily quest i caught the old crafty. I didn't know what it was, but i thought it looked cool so i keep'd it in my bank. But i was sooooo close to destroy it, because i didn't know anything about wow. And know i'm all most at lvl 85, and i randomly saw a vid about the Old Crafty. It's first like "really" rare thing so i'm kinda happy :D

Caught Old Crafty yesterday on my 387th cast. Took almost exactly 2 hours. I fished the first 100 casts in the Valley of Honor pool and then moved over to the Valley of Spirits by the goblins to fish in their pool for the next 187. Was around 500 fishing when I started, maxed it to 525 before I was anywhere near finished. Had a +25 fishing pole and was using +100 lures. I'm not sure the level mattered since I've read on here of people catching Old Crafty with much lower level fishing. It helped to just turn the sound effects up, set the fishing action as number 1 on my keyboard and watch Macgyver while I waited to hear the "kersplush." Only had troubles when the dailies kept fishing in the pool next to me. Just keep at it, he's down there!

Best fishing spot for Alliance:

In the pond directly south of the plateau in the Valley of Wisdom (with all of the Cata portals) there is a waterfall. I would reccommend flying super high over the city, positioning yourself directly over the spot, then diving down and through the waterfall. You will find yourself in a nice shielded little cave that looks as if one of the designers put it there so you could have a chance at fishing in enemy territory.

Pros:
-There is a small patform behind the waterfall for you to stand on. You don't have to have water walking to fish there.
-You are invisible while standing behind the water flow.
-You cannot be seen from the air.
-You are out of LOS to any other players not also in the cave...(leading to my next point)
-You cannot be ambushed. Since enemy players must enter the cave to attack you, you will see them approach (unless stealthed) and have a chance to mount up and escape before being attacked.
-If you can stealth and find yourself in the pond (not the cave) and facing the waterfall, you can sneak back inside using the small trail to the left.

Cons:

Just caught Old Crafty in Valley of Wisdom fishing from the rocks at the botom of the waterfall... took 8 casts with a skill of 257 +5 pole.

So after many hours spent in orgrimar finally got the good ole crafty. i found the perfect spot to fish it up without any flying guards or any horde players. i flew in from north of org. in between the valley of wisdom and valley of honor there is a water fall just above the coordinate point (57.3, 34.9). you can hide under the water fall in between some bushes, of course if doesn't hurt to be /sleep mode. you can spend as many hours as you need in that spot with no traffic.

After trying about 400 casts in org, I read people's comments that the Crocolisks in the City daily quest doesn't improve the drop rate anymore, but I decided to give it a shot anyway.

So I took the quest, disabled auto-loot (that way I don't fish the quest item) and tried about 30-50 casts with no luck.

But yesterday, I wanted to do the quest simply to get my last missing crocolisk companion, so I went to org at 45, 47 and after my 2nd cast, I got the achievement along with the quest item. I was stunned :O!

My addon reported 50% drop rate, which is pure luck of course. But I'm not sure at this point if the fishing daily quest still improves the DR.

Btw, after handing in the daily quest, I got my last missing companion Chuck's Bucket as well :) - I guess it was my lucky day.

Spent countless hours on different toons tryng for this one. And today for some reason while not even thinking about it on another lower level toon, I was doing the toxic puddlefish daily in the goblin waste pool and got it with my third puddlefish. 7:31 am on Hellscream server

Got it as Alliance after probably 40 minutes of fishing in the river that leads to the waterfall in the Valley of Honor. I didn't bother with trying to fly into the waterfall like everyone said because the guards kept catching me, so I just stuck with being on top but I hid between two rocks towards the back of the river with levitate on (as I'm a priest). I don't think people really ever go back there so I wasn't noticed. I didn't even see anyone the entire time I was there either.

Finally caught Old Crafty! It took less than 200 casts, I would say. I also got my Fishing up to 505 from 460. Caught a 19 Pound Catfish and Gypsy Gloves(?) as well.

I just lucked out big time! My Worgen hunter flew in undetected to the top of the waterfall in northern Orgrimmar. I wanted to just get one cast in so I could get the "Fishing Diplomat" achievement. Well, that one cast turned out to be Old Crafty! So I got both achievements at the same time! Naturally I hearthed out of there as quickly as possible and never was detected.

FOR ALLIANCE:

Way I am doing it as rogue (dont forget the camo elixir)

I. Fly to Undercity
II. Take blimp to Org
III. Before it lands, if your engineering, jump down and glide (goblin !@#$%^) towards waterfall near sham (horde) trainer, I believe.
----NOTE: If not engineering, just make sure you have glyph of safe fall and sneak around
IV. Hug waterfall
V.Profit

For any non-stealth class, easiest way to do is (Personally from a paladins perspective and priest, dont forget to buy invisibility potion):

I. Fly to Durotar
II. Go in through rear entrance of Org

a) suicide in to the waterfall
b) click on your invisible potion and you'll drop from mount into water.

III. Hug waterfall, it hides you a bit

i was fishing in the Valley of Honor next to the Great Brown Dragon Turtle for about 5min. so i got bored and moved three steps to the left of the turtle and in 3 casts caught Old Crafty with Nat's Lucky Fishing Pole and 330 Fishing skill. Goodluck to all!

I just fished up Old Crafty today. I was level 17, had a fishing skill of 22, and I didn't have a fishing pole equipped.
The best part about it was that it was an upgrade over my old off-hand weapon. I sure get a lot off strange looks carrying that around.

They must have increased the chances for people to fish him up. I have under 200 fishing and fished him up TWICE within 7 days. My wife also (tonight) got him.

fished the illusive crafty today and wanted to share my exp as alliance:

the best spot seem to be 57.3 , 34.9 - every other place I got discovered and gang-banged by 15-20 hordies.
I went as far as possible into the water where I was still standing and /lie or /sleep to be less noticeable - that spot doesn't have much traffic although some annoying 85 druid discovered me and stated moonfire spam me so I just logged out for 10 mins and when I came back he was gone and I casted away quietly until I got him.
fishing skill is not an issue (I was 600, but after 50 or so you stop catching greys).

Back at 80, got Old Ironjaw my 8th cast in Stormwind while leveling fishing from 0. Today, a few years later after going horde, got Old Crafty my 1st cast in Org. This and The Fishing Diplomat in same cast. Strange luck!

I started with level one fishing skill and fished up Old Crafty at level 155. I stood next to the fishing trainer on the dock in Orgrimmar in the Valley of Honor at 66,41. I still had the basic fishing pole and no lure. (WoW owed me one...it took me three days to fish up the Sewer Rat in Dalaran.)

After hours and hours of fishing for old crafty and old ironjaw on my main, i caught old crafty on my alt before id even got the 100 fish achiev :( i caught him by accident, i was fishing off the boardwalk by the trainer n had autoloot on n suddenly the achiev popped up n i thought that was about typical for my luck on my main, i farm n farm for stuff n it takes forever but on an alt it happens without even trying!... i wasnt happy..well...i kinda was lol just typical ey! :(

I'd tried on numerous ocassions over the last few years to get this achievement but always got bored sooner or later and gave up. Today I decided would be the day.

So I equipped my Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole and settled back in my chair for a long farm in the Valley of Honor. I was pleasantly surprised however to get Old Crafty on 6th cast! I like to think of it as a little reward for all the hard achievement farming I've done. :D

I caught old crafty at 10:53 pm server time on US-Ner'zhul. I caught him on my orc dk. Odd part is that the dk is only lvl 100 fishing, and I caught him on first cast in the goblin slums while working on the daily. No fishing gear used whatsoever. I never thought that after all these years I would catch old crafty with a character that is barely a journeyman fisher.

Fished him up today finally, was able to keep track of time/cast with Fishing Buddy very helpful addon if you love to fish. In all took me 11 hours 23 mins and 5490 cast exactly. Really worried about Old Ironjaw because I'm horde and can't stand PVP, also i'm on a server where there is about 10 ally to each horde. Here goes nothing....

FINALLY caught my Old Crafty. My brother has been touting this, since he's had 2 Old Crafty's in less than 200 casts, one of which was during his very first fishing daily. Used the Fishing Buddy addon, so I have accurate statistics to report.

After reading these posts, I set down by the waterfall prepared to fish for several hours. Here are my results:

Took me ~380 cast to get it. Was standing at the bottom of the waterfall (57,36) Logged out at ~300 cast and came back the next day and fished until i finally got it.
Have to say that, prior to this, i did hours of fishing in Ogrimmar before Cataclysm.

So.. reading all the comments I expected this achievement to take a while. Having previously attempted years ago I wanted to give it another shot. I was fishing off of the dock next to the fishing daily guy.

Caught Old Crafty tonight on my Lvl 90 Goblin Mage (ipwnyapapa) :) I'm all maxed out on my fishing but I don't think skill lvl matters.
I was pretty excited because it didn't take me many casts at all and from what I was reading it seemed like it was going to take a lot longer.

Fished In Org at The Valley of Honor right on the rocks next to the waterfall.

I fished up Old Crafty by the waterfall, next to the quest fisherman.

My character level is 90, but her fishing level was 65 or so, and did not use any lures.
