when eating with others this gives a buff called: Romantic Picnic and the description says "You are enjoying a lovely meal..."

Note that if you have more than one they share cooldowns, i.e. one player cannot have more than one being "used" at a time.

Note that whilst you cannot interact with a picnic basket of the opposite faction, you can get the 'buff' that occurs when 2 or more people interact with the same basket as would happen with members of your own faction.

Simply place your own basket on top of the other faction's basket and interact with yours and 'attempt' to communicate the same to your opposite faction counterpart. You both would get the floating 'heart' icon above your heads and have the 'Romantic Picnic' buff despite only one person interacting with each basket.

This year (2010) you buy this item from the Seasonal vendor for 10 Love Token, it does not drop out of any Seasonal boxes etc.

Added this to my party set:

Ectoplasmic Distiller, Dartol's Rod of Transformation, Toy train set, Archmage Vargoth's Staff, and totem of spirits. Easy to get through toe 2010 event. Just complete 3 quests and you have enough to get this. Lasts all year and sets down a large picnic that will attract attention in any major city.

Several people (including myself) has gotten this glitch lately, next to the Dalaran bank at the fountain.

if you have problems with buying something this year try the macro :

/run BuyMerchantItem(11)

simple talk with merchant, count which number that specific item have , change the number in macro if needed... then run it still talking with merchant... and there you go - product is in your bag. :)

You don't actually need to buy this one, provided that you find someone with a basket already set in Dalaran. Also doesn't matter how many people are sitting next to it; my alliance paladin sat down next to a basket where two already had the buff; after a while he got the buff, then he ate the Buttermilk Delight and got the achievement.

I wish this could be used indoors.
There is an underwater cave on the Timeless Isle (entrance below Stinkbraid's ship that has some Glinting Sand arranged in a heart shape. Perfect place to have a romantic picnic except it is indoors so I can't use this!
