Recipe is obtained through the new Cooking daily quest. I received it from the box of meat reward that you can choose

Upon eating the food you shoot a firework in the air and get a buff called Very Happy. Nothing else has happened in the 5 minutes since I obtained the buff though.

Between the Recipe, the actual cake and the page for the buff you will find that the buff does nothing. You get a nice little buff that does not overwrite any other buffs and can be clicked off.

This recipe is a VERY rare reward/drop. I've been doing the daily cooking quests since the first day 2.3 came out, and as of 12/11/07 have still not gotten this recipe. I figure I've done the cooking quests probably 20 - 25 times. I've gotten every other new 2.3 recipe, but no cake. I've tried my luck with both the Crate of Meat and the Barrel of Fish rewards...doesn't seem to make a difference.

I started off choosing the the Barrels of Fish because there's a chance of getting a Goldenscale Vendorfish which is worth 6G when sold to a vendor. But then after I got the recipes for Skullfish Soup and Broiled Bloodfin I started choosing the Crates of Meat because those crates hold meat that you need for three out of the four cooking quests which could save you time grinding or money at the AH. Also, the skullfish and bloodfin recipes are the only two recipes not available from the crates of meat, so I wasn't missing out on anything after that by choosing the crates (except the rare chance of getting a vendorfish).

I'll post an update when I get the cake recipe. And I'm sure when I do I'll have my "Very Happy" buff on. :-)

Note that while the recipe only requires a single point of cooking skill to learn, you need at least 275 cooking to do the quest to get it, and it's BoP.

I got the pattern in the meat crate. It wasn't hard for me to find it, at all.

The cake sends out three, random fireworks, as well as a smoke rocket from the front of the character.

It pulses the fireworks display 6 times.

Goto The Barrens or Westfall if you want the eggs, and also herb there if you can. You can also cook the cake on the fire pit in the town in Westfall, Im not sure if The Barren's town also has a firepit, but I would assume it would.

for me, the cost of making one cake is:
Mild Spices (5 pk): .09 S.
Simple Flour (2x 5pk): .42 S
Cold Milk (5k). 1.06 S.
Flask of Port: 1.28 S.
Mageroyal. Free
Small Egg: Free.
Total: 44 Silver.

Mages can only steal buffs that are magical in affect. Since this is not a magical affect, it would not pertain to spellsteal.

Side note: Even if you remain seated, you will cease to shoot fireworks off after 2 minutes.

The first time I EVER did the cooking daily quest, I got this recipe.
And spent a good 10 minutes after gloating in /trade while doing circles in the sky.

I just received this recipe on two of my toons last night for doing the Dalaran cooking daily. I was surprised to find that I didn't have to do the Shatt cooking dialies to get it. It was also quite strange that I got it on two different characters in a span of about 10 minutes -- could the chance of getting this recipe be possibly linked to increased odds on a particular day?

I am having a horrible time trying to get this recipe. Over 61 Dalaran cooking awards and I have been doing the daily cooking quest from The Rokk in Shattrath for over two weeks and can not get this thing to drop.

I had figured the low % drop rate, 1-1.5%, was due to the fact a lot of people already had the recipe and thus it won't ever spawn again in the reward bag. Which would put the actual % anywhere from maybe 2-5%.

Not sure if I could be doing something wrong, or maybe its just bad luck.

Got this from a Crate of Meat from the Shatt cooking daily on the 7th day of doing both Dal and Shatt Dailies. So its definitely obtainable from Shatt dailies.

I was alternating choosing my rewards between the Fish and Meat, even though I was only lacking the Kibbler's Bits recipe and this one. Try that and see what happens Suffer.

I've begun to suspect that the reason the cake recipe does not ever drop from the Dal or Shat cooking dailies is because there is not a cake recipe at all. The cake really is... a lie.

Confirmed, received today after doing 79 Dalaran cooking quests and 210 Shat cooking quests. I received it from Dalaran. Long time coming, almost gave up thinking it wouldn't happen. Glad I didn't. Keep doing the quests, it will drop. Good luck

I'll add my little sad story in here too, but with a happy ending.

Reason I even bother posting this is so others realize that you are indeed lucky to get this, and you're just plain like everyone else if you're not.

3 months of dailies before WotLK, and I've currently got 41 dalaran cooking awards, which is after buying every single recipe there is, (I'm not gonna bother with the math) and I still hadnt gotten it.
Should be added that I kept doing the Shattrath dailies also.

I finally got it today, and honestly, the sparkly fireworks didn't make up for the hours spent trying to get it.
So no, you're not bugged, you're just extremely unlucky, or just like everyone else.

I still think the whole thing is silly.

I've had extreme difficulties in receiving this recipe. According to my statistics tab, I've completed 48 cooking dailies (I started Dalaran and Shatt at the same time). That's 96 tries and still no dice. So, in my experience, very rare is an understatement.

No kidding. I've been running cooking dailies (first Rokk, then Dalaran's, now both) ever since they came out about a year or more ago, and guess what? I only learnt about the recipe when I first took a closer look at the Cooking achievements.

I have never seen the item in-game, or seen anyone attain it in-game. Ever.

That's how rare this recipe is. The Cake Is A Lie.

Just got this recipie today from doing a Dalaran cooking daily. This is about the 15th Dalaran Cooking daily I've done, so it was a nice surprise to get this recipie. The icing on the cake (no pun intended) is that I also did Marcia's Fishing daily too and in the bag you get from that was the Captain Rumsey's Lager recipie. It was a good day.

Then i went to Shattrath to complete the Rokk's daily, i haven't done it for monthes. Guess what ? I got this sweet cake recipe THE DAMN SAME DAY. :D

Well I recently lvled up cooking on my Paly(first character I actually lvled cooking on). Haven't even gotten the achievement for the 25 dalaran cooking awards and I've done the cooking daily everyday since I was able to. Well today I got lucky and this recipe dropped, a few days earlier the Stormchops recipe dropped. Felt pretty lucky.

Something of note to mention here is yesterday I deleted my WoW cache folder to clear my NPC Scan data. The VERY NEXT TIME I ran a cooking daily quest (Dalaran daily), the recipe dropped for me. Coincidence? Maybe. I have a feeling, though, that I may have had something cached preventing the game from realizing I still needed this recipe. The reason I say this is I have spent the better part of 5 months running both cooking dailies every day without this recipe dropping.

If you have been running cooking dailies for months and haven't seen this recipe drop, trying deleting your cache folder. Hope this helps!

On my 123rd consecutive day of doing both the Dalaran and Shatt cooking dailies, I FINALLY, got the recipe from Rokk today. I'm STOKED! lol...Now, if that !@#$y little sob would give me the skullfish soup recipe, I could close out all the cooking achievements and get the Chef title. Maybe in another 123 days hahaha...Endeavor to perservere!

the fact that this recipe and achievement exist are just good for the fact that by looking up the postings here and reading the link, and the song, as well as the ways people have obtained the recipe and what it refers to are extremely entertaining. Finally got it! After at least 50 cooking dailies in Shattrath, but can't be sure of the actual number. Seems like I've been doing these quests off and on for forever. I decided to switch from my usual Fish bucket reward to the meat crate, and there it was. I am so frickin' relieved.

it seems to me that the chef title is one of the hardest titles to get, between 30 northrend recipes, all those outland recipes, plus all the silly little add-on achievements(this cake is not a lie), that it takes to get "Chef," I can honestly say that this is way harder than "Flame warden" ever was for me.

Wish blizz would just give us a friggin break already.

This dropped for me today from the Crate of Meat. 71 cooking dailies done to get it, and this was the last drop I needed for Chef de Cuisine, The Outland Gourmet, and Hail to the Chef .

It's about luck, sure - but satisfying nonetheless.

Well ... I've done the Dal cooking dailies to the point that I have enough awards for the chef hat, but had not started the Shat Dailies until yesterday.

Both times I've gone for the crate of meat as a reward and today on only my 2nd Shat cooking daily, I received the delicious chocolate cake recipe ... luck, fate, destiny - u be the judge.

Had to add my story. Got just under 200 dalaran cooking awards and been doing the shat daily since it came out. No chocolate cake. No kidding. I wish I was. I am also the guy who took 1687 kills of library guardians to get his jeeves recipe. I am that guy.

And to make it worse no achieve for the amount of cooking awards because the counter is bugged and blizz says "it is a known issue that is being worked on"

I am also trying to get the recipe,

But i am doning the daily quests from the rokk, for atleast 2 weeks everyday.
But still the recipe doesn't drops.

I always choses the crate of meat, because that has the highest droprate.
I know it's a very low droprate, but than again, already 2 weeks, but still none...

Perhaps does anybody knows if the recipe disappeared with the coming of Cataclysm?\\
Or got some other hints/tips?

I also got this recipe on my very first cooking daily in dalaran on my DK. This was about 6 months ago. Now I'm trying to get it on my Mage and have done dailies with both The Rokk and DAL dailies and have gotten nothing but Northern Spices and junk. :(

So question here, the cooking dailies in Org have no reward bag so can you get the recipe in meet create you can buy there or did blizz just forget about it?
i have been doing the Dal and Shatt dailies for so long that i have all the Dal recipes bought and the hat ... and an other 50 or so rewards that are now useless! and still no drop for the cake recipe ... gah

To update: I finally got the recipe in the Dal spice bag. But then I found out that there are two more recipes needed for the Outland cooking that only drop from the crate of fish. So all that time I spent taking the crate of meat because it had slightly higher chance of dropping the recipe, I removed any chance of getting the other two. So, for those still looking for all the recipes, take the fish crate until you get broiled bloodfin and skullfish soup recipes. You still have some chance of getting the Delicious chocolate cake recipe and these other two at the same time. Save you the hassle of having to continue to do the Shatt cooking dailies after you finally get the cake.

Sadly, this is purely random. I've seen that it can drop from any of the cooking dailies. Unfortunately, with it being entirely random, you could get it your first time, or your 1,000th.

I have bought all Dalaran cooking recipes as well as the cooking hat. I still have 161 Dalara cooking tokens left over from that. No cake.

I've been doing the Shattrath dailies as well, but I didn't start doing them as early as the Dalaran ones.

So far my statistics tab has me at 240 cooking dailies completed. (To be honest, about 30 of which are Orgrimmar dailies, so they don't really count.)

No. F-ing. Cake.

Don't have Captain Rumsey's Lager either.

I've done all three cooking dailies everyday since cata came out and still have yet to see this this recipe. Would really like my Chef title on this toon some time soon.

Anyways, I know it will drop at some point, just getting tired of the grind.

Yet, another story.

My wife got this after 23 dailies in Dalaran. I'm still doing dailies. I've lost track of how many and I haven't checked my stats to know. It's well over 100.

For those of you who are over 21, I'd have better luck winning Craps in Vegas than getting the cake. This is just painful.

(on a side note: though I appreciate a challenge and I do believe many things in the game have been tragically nerfed, the wide scope randomness of the cake is frankly absurd.)

Anyone from 4.x that doesn't seem to find it after 2 months ? I know it's most probably 'unluck', but I remember getting it much sooner when I was first doing it at 70.

I wonder if a 'pseudo RNG' is being reset by not doing only one expansion's quest and makes my chances worse .

Got it today, after months of grinding dailies in Shatt - and always choosing the "crate of meat" reward.

So it's confirmed that the recipe still drops - even though the droprate is very low.

You are NOT unlucky if it takes you a long time to get this recipe. The drop rate is very low. But it doesn't seem that low because everyone who is lucky and gets it quick comes here to brag (although I secretly suspect that half of them are trolls :P).

Its sampling error; people who get the recipe quickly are much more likely to post than the vast majority of people (like myself) who have done the dailies many, many times with no luck. FYI, if you do a little math (using the drop rates listed here) you have to do both the Dalaran & Shattrath dailies for 100 days in order to have a 95% chance of getting the recipe.

Have been doing the Shat cooking daily for three weeks now and no recipe has dropped. Started doing the Dalaran one two weeks ago. If you add these with the many times I did them while leveling, THAT IS A LOT! Still no cake recipe. This is really holding up my cooking achievements. Have the last few patches glitched this drop or am I just VERY unlucky?

Note: I finally got the recipe. It dropped from the Shat daily after about 5 months of doing both Shat and Dal cooking dailies. Apparently it just takes a LOT of patience. So don't give up. It will happen, eventually!

Do I litteraly have to do Dailys until my Birthday for this recipie? Some ppl r crying they did them daily for 8 MONTHS! F That!. 2 ppl reported getting it on thier B'day.

I've been doing Dalaran Cooking and Fishing too, aswell as Shattrath Cooking only picking up the Crate of Meat, and Crocolisks in the City (for Chuck's Bucket) when it's available.
(I got Stormchops about 2 weeks ago from Dalaran's Small Spice Bag.)
I've been doing this for over a month. so I'm just going to keep at it and hope I cry in another 4 months when my birthday actually arrives..

It's my party and I'll Cry if I want too :(

Turned lvl 70 yesterday. It is my second day doing the shat daily and second time picking up the crate of meat. Got the recipe today. Didn't realize what I got until I checked here. Not my birthday, but I ate lots of chocolate brownies today so maybe that helped. I usually have an awful rng so I'm super excited. Probably won't get a good roll for months now.

After reading comments on this page, I decided to choose Crate of Meat for the Shatt daily quest reward. After doing that for 3 days straight and not getting the recipe, I decided to choose Barrel of Fish today and looted Recipe: Delicious Chocolate Cake. So, I guess try and switch it up every once in a while.

In my most recent angry ticket to blizz after 3 years of not getting this stupid recipe their reply was simply

"Thank you for taking the time to contact us about the Delicious Chocolate cake recipe. We aren't able to help you get the recipe. The recipe drops about as often as the Stormchops one and you've got that one so it is possible to get it."

So I guess the droprate has been increased more than we believe it to currently be, but since less people are getting it, it's hard for the droprate % to increase for our viewing and hopefulness to obtain this piece of $%^&. Here's to another Expansion without the Cake.
