This is a callback to the War of the Ancients books, where Aviana gave Krasus one of her feathers when he was stuck in elf form so he could fly.

As of today , Aviana's Feather no longer shows up in the toy box - the spell remains on my toolbar , but is non-functional.

As far as it's effect, it launches you around 500+ yards straight up , then launches you forward at a very high speed - complete with slow fall - sufficient to travel south beyond karabor when taking off from the Exile's Rise in Shadowmoon.

Further: It's in Live , but as a per-character item from the Inn quest, it can no longer be added to ToyBox and used by multiple characters without earning it. Based on it's extremely powerful ability , I suppose it's understandable Blizzard didn't want every character on an account to be able to use it with no cost..

As of warlords release this item is usable anywhere that is considered outside. I personally found it fun to use in places like Skyreach dungeon to fly laps around the spires or in Grimrail Depot to fly to the front of the train and back.

and its now been nerfed RIP 01/12/14 :( cant be used inside instances (dungs, bgs, raids and so on)

If anyone wondering what this item does, it launches you up to the sky and you glide at relatively quick speed.
In short really handy if you want to travel across hills or whatever.

Currently waiting for the 10 minute cooldown to reset, Standing on top of the platform where you kill the last boss in Skyreach in the open world. going to use Aviana's Feather to try and place myself Atop of the massive orb that covers the summit. i managed to place myself below it before, but when used again i hit the bottem of the orb by a hair. This time i should be able to get on top of it and launch from there.

This really needs to be disabled in battlegrounds. Today a warlock picked our cart in deepwind gorge, used this to launch in the air and glided to cap.

If you want a more interesting little flight trip use Falling Flame after you've used this item (wait till you've got wings before using).

It's incredibly fun, and you can fly across the whole universe at BLAZING speed!

This is one of the best thing in WoD. You can fly every 10 min in the no fly expansion... makes your life 100% more comfortable in Spires and Gorgrond (and everywhere where you have to move trough half of the zone for any reason)

This item is seriously overpowered at the moment..

I've used it to achieve , all I did was use the feather when the fight began, flew out of the arena and waited on a rooftop for the last two to almost kill eachother, jump down and kill both of them..

I've used in Warsong Gulch to capture the flag in less than 5 seconds.. And it's an fast and easy way to get to Lumber Mill in Arathi Basin.

Shouldn't be long before nerf!

It's similar to the gliders in Firefall, but you go way higher up, and you don't have control over your descent.

Amazing item, launches you about 300 yards into the air and then puts you into a controlled slowfall (like goblin glider) at 714% movement speed. Thats fast!

This is essentially a temporary Flying Mount in Draenor (albeit on a 10min cooldown). Lunarfall Inn for the win!

Great way to access all those treasures located in normally-unreachable places, especially in Nagrand. (Decent alternative to those Goblin Gliders).

You can finally fly in Silvermoon City. It's as broken as the devs always said it was seen from the air. Beware where you land or you'll fall through the world very easily.

You need to be very, very, very careful where you use this. The wings vanish as soon as you land...I now find myself on the top of a tower overlooking Felmyst in SWP waiting on the 10 min C/D because the walls are too high to jump over and drop back to the ground. This thing is funnnnnnnnn...nerf inc, I'm sure.

This does still work in non-challenge dungeons, including heroics, and can be used to skip tremendous areas of an instance. While I cannot confirm it will work in WoD raids, I *can* confirm I was able to use it in older ones, so it's not globally disabled in raid instances. Based on that, one can only assume it will work in the new raids, at least until it is eventually disabled.

You can absolutely use this to your advantage to skip content, bosses, or just the trash to a boss. As for using it in a battleground I would be *very* careful. Using it to skip a start timer or avoid combat to capture an objective could very, *very* easily be considered exploiting by Blizzard. Is a little honor worth a 72 hour ban, or even a permanent one?

The ultimate explorer's tool. You can (and should) use this to explore around all the mountains in Draenor - there's quite a few cool 'hidden' areas.

I just wanted to share with you all my awesome adventures with this wonderful item pre nerf..
Like auto leaping to chamberin Strand of the Ancient with 2 friends who all carried bombs... instantly won that game, duh.
Oh! and lets not forget using this in WSG and having someone else use it to fight the FC mid air... good times.

The higher you can get before using this item, the more you will travel with the gliding effect.

If you are an engineer, I suggest using Gnomish Gravity Well until it overheats, and then use the Feather.

Also, the Feather is very useful for escaping unwanted situations for "drop combat" classes, such as hunter with Feign Death, or Rogues via Vanish, etc.

Tried using this today in Stonefury Cliffs and got 'cannot use that here' , as well as in the area around Bloodmaul Slag Mines - might be an extension of the 'cannot use in dungeons' hotfix extending to any dungeon entrance as well as the instance itself.

HUNTERS: if you use Disengage while gliding on the wings, you can slow the descent speed by about 80%, making it a very percise way to fly around. Can be useful.

Even in its nerfed form this thing is still one of the most desirable items in the game, pretty much forcing you choose an inn as one of your medium buildings. Its especially nice on a pvp server if someone is camping your corpse.

With Glyph of The Stag (Glyph of the Stag) it is soooo much fun. Just get your buddy mount you, activate Aviana's feather, then at the maximum height have your friend dismount and use his/her Aviana's Feather :)

We started from Iron Docks Flight point. I could only get to Crater Lord Igneous whereas my friend flew all the way to Evermorn Springs(Horde Flight Path).

You should definitely try it out! We're thinking of doing it with 3 druids now :)

Fun fact:

Gliding over Draenor´s Shattrath dome will knock you up in the air, we can´t by any means land on the dome itself, therefore extending the period of scouting time at those heights... after Aviana´s Feather is up, pop your glider and repeat if you want.

I miss the day when items would just work, anywhere you think they would work. So much fine text, so much hidden nerfs, so much utility gone.

I'm happy to say Aviana's Feather works in Spires of Arak, if there's ever a zone that needed flight--it's that one.

Not sure exactly. But is seems I can NOT use this when its RAINING! LMFAO. I was fishing on the coast of SMV and it started raining. This reminded me of a few bad times I had as a kid and decided to fly up the coast to where it was not raining. I got the cannot use here msg. Walked out of the rain and worked fine. Ultimate irony as soon as I landed at different spot, rain again. AND could not use feather in that spot until I left the rain. Bug? Feature? Bad luck?

This is by far my most used item in draenor. It is a must if you like getting from place to place quickly every 10 mins or just goofing around.

Some lore about Aviana can be found by talking to Choluna in Mount hyjal (who also turns out to be a follower for Horde), she has the following dialogue:

Tell me about Aviana.

Fair Aviana, the Mistress of Birds! All winged creatures of Azeroth once owed her allegiance, especially we Druids of the Talon. It's by her grace that we were granted the ability to shift forms and take to the skies.

Aviana was both beautiful and terrible, like the great birds of prey she counted among her children. She lived in the towering spirit realm of G'Hanir, the Mother Tree, but appeared on Azeroth in the form of a great winged goddess.

You speak in the past tense. What happened to her?

<Choluna's face darkens.>

Ten thousand years ago demons flooded across Azeroth in the War of the Ancients. Aviana called her children to the skies and fought off the demon hordes from the front lines. Her wrath was inescapable.

Hundreds fell before the fury of her talons. But ultimately she was surrounded by Doomguards, their barbed lances piercing her sides...

It is said that her blood itself attacked the demons, searing their flesh, destroying them even as she herself fell from the sky.

What became of her?

Aviana perished on the battlefield that day, but the mortal races and the remaining ancients ultimately triumphed. The first druids found her body among the carnage, and bore it up here, to the highest mountain.

She was laid to rest just outside this shrine, within a circle of sacred stones.

A seed of G'Hanir was used to plant the World Tree, and it is all that remains of that sacred realm, which otherwise perished with her.

This is the best item ever. I almost always play alliance on pvp servers and i'm not so good at pvp, so when I get attacked by horde in world pvp i'm always glad to have this item in my inventory. It has saved my life more than once. It's also good to get to high places in draenor, or other places without flying that you can use the item in. Also you can use this item in the fatigue area in timeless isle.

Can someone help me out here? I completed the "Stay a while and listen" achievement and apparently I've completed every inn quest including "Aviana's request" yet I don't have the item and can't find it anywhere in item recovery page. Is this glitched text? Is it maybe the last quest you recieve from the inn?

I just completed my last non-daily quest today so maybe tommorow it'll show up.

If you're doing the Legendary questline, this can be used to quickly get to Khadgar's tower. Stand in the circular patch of grass in your garrison's pet menagerie, face north and activate the feather. You'll pass through the edge of Tanaan Jungle. Turn left around 23,90 and Khadgar's Tower will be right in front of you.

It follows roughly the same path as the flight master if you want to see where to go before taking the leap. But this way is slightly quicker, more direct, and best of all, doesn't cost you any gold to use. Nice of Khadgar to leave the back door open for you!

You travel with the speed of ~50 yd/s, which is almost twice as much as the Master Riding (~27 yd/s).

That gives you 6000 yd maximum distance you can cover while the buff is active, given you start high enough not to bump in any obstacles :)

Regular flying 6000 yd would take almost 4 minutes.

This thing is perfect for some dailies which require long flights or to get to Timeless Isle / Isle of Giants without taking a taxi. Also gives you a nice boost which makes trip to the entrance of Onyxia's Lair from Thunder Bluff faster.
