New dust that will obviously be used in WoD; this time though it will not be for what we're used to. They will be used for neck and ring enchants in addition to the usual cloak enchants.

Draenic Dust is the WoD version of other "dusts" in past expansions and is the easiest to obtain of the three materials listed above. It is most-commonly received when disenchanting Uncommon-quality gear and weapons from WoD.

Non-enchanters can obtain this item via Enchanter's Study Level 1, by disenchanting WoD Uncommon and Rare quality items, using the Essence Font (cauldron with blue liquid) in the center of the building.

A new expansion, a new set of enchanting materials obtained by Disenchant or Garrison Work Orders:

As there's barely any green drops anymore (what I've seen from running dungeons, doing "daily quests" and killing various mobs for reputation or boredom), I would suggest to not spend them like crazy for illusion enchants etc. You can indeed buy them for resources or in the auction house. But as usual, at start of an expansion everything is extremly overpriced.

I've made the mistake to spend them on crap, like illusions for fun :(

Blizzard:
You need to make the Luminous Shards convertible into Draenic Dust just like Shards were convertible into dust during MOP. Currently dust is more expensive than the shards and that change would fix it. Not sure why you broke the perfect system that MOP implemented.

This item was hotfixed on 11/25/14. Blues now have a chance to DE into dust. Just disenchanted 5 ilvl 630 blues and recived 8-12 dust from each one.

While dust now comes from disenchanting blues on rare mobs, or treasures, once per character the main source is still green drops. There are no inexpensive crafting items to disenchant this expansion (daily cooldown materials are too expensive and valuable). The trading post is also quite expensive. This is in my opinion a very wise move from Blizzard, and honestly I think we could have made do without the hotfix, but so be it.

Dust is exclusive and valuable now, unlike previous expansions where it was free on the AH. There is zero enchanting inflation this time, no enchanting materials get a blind eye on the market without consideration, and enchants have never been more profitable. I know it's a different change to everyone but think about it, what's the fun in having free stuff? Now that it's valuable, a player with nothing to do can just go out into the world and kill monsters for gold, SERIOUS gold not just vendor pocket change. A skilled and geared player can clear instances, a just reward. Because you're human. Couldn't really do that for gold the past three expansions. Lets face it that couple thousand gold after an hour was chump change. Especially due to bots, which brings up another subject- No Flying.

The potential threat of botting has also been patched by Blizzard. No flying. Bots have to fight. They have to fight everything not just the mobs they want to fight, but also players seeking gladiator. In case you haven't noticed there are also cliffs and elite monsters everywhere. New mechanics are going to kill these bots so much they will be in a constant dead loop, from broken armor. They're not going to just "unstuck" themselves either with a flying mount and random unstuck protocol. They're going to get stuck on every... single... thing, and noticed, and reported. I think Blizzard really sat down at the round table this time and had some serious plans figured out.

Blackrock bands from jewelcrafting (learned when you upgrade to 700 max level) aren't too bad as a craft to disenchant item if you have a couple mines going. As of posting this they are 60 draenor ore to craft, 60 of one or the other or 30 of both. Which of the three you make doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm averaging 10.5 dust per ring which comes out to about 6 ore per dust. I went with rings because they were the highest ilvl (585) item available from my jc for the 60 ore costs. The necklaces, lower rings and the blacksmithing items learned the same way have the same material costs available at different ilvls and probably give similar results but I haven't tested them so experiment at your own risk.

Edit: I'm not sure when he change happened but I now also occasionally get a luminous shard instead of dust. My very small sample (read: not very accurate data) of 40 rings gave 6 shards. The average amount of dust when not a shard was the same as before.

A cool strategy for buying these quickly at your trading post: You can run a simple command to buy tons of items like Draenic Dust from your vendor in your garrison.

To purchase 200 Draenic Dust all at once for example, you would input:

/run BuyMerchantItem(3,200)

where the first number is the number item (Draenic Dust is third, so it's 3), and 200 is the amount.

This bypasses the endless clicking of spending resources. Some people have found though that you have to purchase one stack the normal method and say yes before it works (maybe to confirm the 'yes, I'd like to buy this' gateway).
