Following last week's
Cataclysm Mount Guide
and our pre-Cataclysm guide to
The Shattering companion pets
, I've put together a detailed guide to all of the new
Cataclysm companion pets
! Find out which professions can craft pets, get lucky with archaeology and get your entire guild together to slaughter thousands of critters! What fun!
Check out the fully detailed guide, including a list of all of the new companion pets and detailed information on how to get them, after the break!
Achievements
Armadillo Pup
Taught by
Armadillo Pup
Purchasable for upon completion of the guild achievement
Critter Kill Squad
Binds when picked up
The method for obtaining this little guy is pretty straightforward - simple, mindless slaughter of thousands upon thousands of critters (50,000 to be exact) with the help of your guildies, and you will earn the right to purchase this pet from the guild vendor . Seems kind of strange that your reward for slaying so many critters is another critter. Sadistic, really. I wonder if he knows.
Dark Phoenix Hatchling
Taught by
Dark Phoenix Hatchling
Purchasable for upon completion of the guild achievement
Binds when picked up
Obtaining this stunning little beauty will take a little time, as your guild must obtain the achievement
, which requires a total of 55 unique Exalted factions among your guild members. Only guild members who are Revered with the guild will have their Exalted factions count towards that total. Upon reaching this goal, you will be able to purchase the
Dark Phoenix Hatchling
from your faction's guild vendor.
Guild Herald
or
Guild Herald
Taught by
Guild Herald
or
Guild Herald
Purchasable for upon completion of the guild achievement
Profit Sharing
Binds when picked up
These assistants are available to be purchased from the guild vendor once your guild has looted a whopping from creatures! I'm sure this will probably add up fast in larger guilds who are clearing a lot of raid content and killing high-reward bosses, but for smaller guilds this may be a bit of a challenge!
When a Guild Herald has been summoned, he will grant players access to the guild vendor for 5 minutes and allow you to buy/sell items. He will remain stationary and despawn after those 5 minutes are up, and can only be summoned once every 4 hours. Oh well, at least he looks cool.
Guild Page
or
Guild Page
Taught by
Guild Page
or
Guild Page
Purchasable for upon completion of the guild achievement
Alliance Slayer
or
Horde Slayer
Binds when picked up
These assistants are available to be purchased from the guild vendor upon earning
Alliance Slayer
or
Horde Slayer
! You must also reach Honored reputation with you guild before being able to purchase one. These guys are just "light" versions of the Guild Heralds documented above, and offer the same guild vendor access for 5 minutes. The main difference is that the Guild Page has an 8 hour cooldown, whereas the Herald has a 4 hour cooldown.
Pebble
Taught by
Pebble
Rewarded upon completion of
Rock Lover
Binds when picked up
This little guy is rewarded upon completing the ever-popular
Lost In The Deeps
daily quest 10 times. This quest is one of the randomly chosen daily quests available from
Therazane
questgivers in
Deepholm
, and most likely will not be available every day. Unfortunately, this means that if your luck is bad it may take quite a while to meet the objectives of this achievement - but when you do, you get a little rock buddy out of the deal! You were going to do the daily quests anyway, right?
Archaeology
Clockwork Gnome
Taught by
Clockwork Gnome
Rare Dwarf artifact (requires 0
Dwarf Archaeology Fragment
)
Bind on pickup
The rare
Clockwork Gnome
is available to talented archaeologists who are lucky enough to discover it upon solving a Dwarf artifact! Upon solving a Dwarven artifact, you will be given a new project to assemble, and there is a chance to randomly discover fragments of this rare artifact! You must then collect 0
Dwarf Archaeology Fragment
to complete the project - thankfully, this artifact has 3 keystone slots so up to 3
Dwarf Rune Stone
can be used to count as 36 fragments. Upon assembling the project you will create the
Clockwork Gnome
, which teaches a
Jeeves
-style companion pet!
Fossilized Hatchling
Taught by
Fossilized Hatchling
Rare Fossil artifact (requires 5
Fossil Archaeology Fragment
)
Bind on pickup
The rare
Fossilized Hatchling
is available to talented archaeologists who are lucky enough to discover it upon solving a Fossil artifact! Upon solving a Fossil artifact, you will be given a new project to assemble, and there is a chance to randomly discover fragments of this rare artifact! You must then collect 5
Fossil Archaeology Fragment
to complete the project. Upon assembling the project you will create the
Fossilized Hatchling
, allowing you to summon this awesome little skeletal badboy!
Crawling Claw
Taught by
Crawling Claw
Rare Tol'vir artifact (requires 0
Tol'vir Archaeology Fragment
)
Bind to account
The epic quality
Crawling Claw
is available to extremely talented archaeologists who are lucky enough to discover it upon solving a Tol'vir artifact! Upon solving a Tol'vir artifact, you will be given a new project to assemble, and there is a chance to randomly discover fragments of this rare artifact! You must then collect a whopping 0
Tol'vir Archaeology Fragment
to complete the project - thankfully, this artifact has 3 keystone slots as well, so up to 3
Tol'vir Hieroglyphic
can be used to count as 36 fragments. Upon assembling the project you will create the
Crawling Claw
! Awesome!
Rare Drops
Fox Kit
Taught by
Fox Kit
Rare drop from
Baradin Fox
in
Tol Barad
Bind on pickup
This wily fox pet drops has an extremely low chance of dropping from the
Baradin Fox
which roam around
Tol Barad
. This is just yet another one of those grind pets, you'll either be that guy who gets it in his first 50 kills or the one that farms it until the end of time and never sees it drop. Good luck!
Tiny Shale Spider
Taught by
Tiny Shale Spider
Guaranteed drop from rare spawn
Jadefang
in
Deepholm
Bind on pickup
I can't tell if this situation is better than the former, wherein that instead of the pet being a
rare drop
, it's guaranteed - but it's on a
rare spawn
. The
Tiny Shale Spider
will drop from
Jadefang
in
Deepholm
on every kill, but expect this guy to be heavily camped as both a source for a new companion pet and by hunters looking to tame it! Sounds easy enough, right? Did I mention that he's up in a tunnel that you'll have to use some very creative methods to get to? Thankfully Wowhead user
tmptfate
has posted
a very detailed guide
to reaching Jadefang!
Reputation
Rustberg Seagull
Taught by
Rustberg Gull
or
Rustberg Gull
Purchasable for 0
Tol Barad Commendation
upon reaching Honored with
Hellscream's Reach
or
Baradin's Wardens
Binds when picked up
Once you have reached Honored with
Hellscream's Reach
or
Baradin's Wardens
, you can purchase your seagull pet from your faction's quartermaster (
Pogg
for Horde,
Quartermaster Brazie
for Alliance) for 0
Tol Barad Commendation
, a new battleground currency awarded by completing objectives / winning in
Tol Barad
.
Professions
De-Weaponized Mechanical Companion
Taught by
De-Weaponized Mechanical Companion
Craftable by Gnomish
Engineering
at 475 skill
Binds on use
This mechanical rabbit can be crafted by skilled Gnomish Engineers who have reached 475 skill and train the recipe from
Findle Whistlesteam
in
Dalaran
(Alliance players can opt to train it from
Tinkmaster Overspark
in
Ironforge
instead). You must be a Gnomish Engineer to learn this pattern; Goblins have a different pet available to them. The mats for these little guys aren't too rough, though the recipe does call for 8
Electrified Ether
(16
Volatile Air
) which could be a bit of a pain. Ultimately, expect these little guys to be a decent source of extra income for a while, as they do not bind on pickup and can be sold on the Auction House.
Elementium Geode
Taught by
Elementium Geode
Rare drop from
Mining
Elementium Vein
or
Rich Elementium Vein
Binds on use
This strange little geode (like the ones found in
Deepholm
) has a rare chance of being contained in an
Elementium Vein
or
Rich Elementium Vein
, and as such is only farmable by players with the appropriate level
Mining
. Between my significant other and I, we've farmed well over 1200
Elementium Ore
and neither of us has seen the pet drop yet, but he's definitely one of the most profitable to farm (getting all that ore AND a pet is a win-win situation)! Thankfully, this pet is not bind on pickup and can be purchased on the Auction House.
Enchanted Lantern
Taught by
Enchanted Lantern
Craftable by Horde
Enchanting
at 525 skill
Binds on use
This floating lantern can be crafted by Horde
Enchanting
who have reached 525 skill and purchase the
Formula: Enchanted Lantern
from
Agatian Fallanos
(in
Twilight Highlands
) for 20
Hypnotic Dust
. This pet is bind on use and can be sold on the Auction House, so Horde players will be able to obtain the other faction's
Magic Lamp
and vice versa. I wouldn't expect to see too many for a while, though, as the recipe requires a
Maelstrom Crystal
, which still fetch very high prices on most servers.
Magic Lamp
Taught by
Magic Lamp
Craftable by Alliance
Enchanting
at 525 skill
Binds on use
The Alliance version of the
Enchanting
pet is a magic floating lamp that can be crafted by Alliance players who have reached 525
Enchanting
skill and purchase the
Formula: Magic Lamp
from
Senthii
(in
Twilight Highlands
) for 20
Hypnotic Dust
. This pet is bind on use and can be sold on the Auction House, so Alliance players will be able to obtain the other faction's
Enchanted Lantern
and vice versa. Once again, I wouldn't expect to see too many for a while, though, as the recipe requires a
Maelstrom Crystal
, which still fetch very high prices on most servers.
Personal World Destroyer
Taught by
Personal World Destroyer
Craftable by Goblin
Engineering
at 475 skill
Binds on use
This miniature
Void Reaver
can be crafted by skilled Goblin Engineers who have reached 475 skill and train the recipe from
Didi the Wrench
in
Dalaran
. You must be a Goblin Engineer to learn this pattern; Gnomish have a different pet available to them.
Miscellaneous
Landro's Lil' XT
Taught by
Landro's Lil' XT
Obtained via redeeming loot card code from WoW Trading Card Game's Worldbreaker Expansion
Binds when picked up
This replica of the
Blizzard Store
's
Lil' XT
can be found as a common loot card in the latest World of Warcraft Trading Card Game expansion, Worldbreaker. This little guy was apparently supposed to have a different color than
Lil' XT
but this doesn't seem to be the case at this time and he is exactly the same. Thankfully, the folks over at Cryptozoic had the brilliant idea of making the pet cards
common
in WoW TCG expansion from now on, so don't expect to have to pay too much for this little knock off.
Blue Mini Jouster
or
Gold Mini Jouster
Taught by
Blue Mini Jouster
or
Gold Mini Jouster
Your choice of one pet upon completion of
Egg Wave
in
Mount Hyjal
Binds when picked up
This vulture-mounted fighter pet is available at the end of a long quest chain in
Mount Hyjal
that players level 80+ can start at the Shrine of Aviana in
Mount Hyjal
, with
Wings Over Mount Hyjal
. Unfortunately, you can only choose
one
of the two pets (and they are bind on pickup, so no trading from alts) - so choose wisely! These awesome little guys are a homage to the original Joust (like the quest that rewards it) and feature a ragdoll seated atop a tiny vulture.

Despite not really doing anything at all, the elementium geode has to be the most adorable pet ever. It's basically the pet rock on steroids, because it's actually a pet and it looks amazing.

It's tiny as heck too in game.

Dident even know about the spider and fox pets. Yet another grind for me to do.

@ d3cadance: Rich =/= lucky. If you're a miner/engineer that makes it a lot easier but you'd still have to buy the enchanting pet, spent a ludicrous amount of time farming archaeology, do a ton of Tol Barad, buy enough TCG cards with real-world money to get the code or buy the code and be fortunate enough to be in a guild with people who are poopsocky enough to already be revered and have all of the reputations at exalted. The parts "luck" would account for, presuming you're not making this up, would be finding Jadefang, finding the geode, finding the fox kit and having gotten the daily quest 10 times already, as probability is significantly against that, though it is possible. Luck technically applies to the archaeology too but really that, like all the other 'luck' ones except for the daily quest, is just a matter of committing enough grind time.
I actually consider myself lucky NOT to have them all, based on the fact that I have enough things to do outside of WoW to keep me from playing enough to have farmed all of this by now.
Also, you can't have them all, because the jousters are exclusive to each other. :P Though, to be honest, I suspect you're just trying to engender jealousy.
Done deconstructing now.

Should be noted the Armadillo pet requires Exalted Guild Rep.
I farmed out all of the critters only to be informed about halfway through of that :c
It's not visible on the achievement before you earn it (like most of the rep requirements are) but it is in the reward pane after you do so. Silly, but at least it will be ready and waiting for me once my Guild Rep gets up there.

Dude, look at the creation date of the topic: ZG/ZA wasn't in the game at that point.
