Tanking requires more situational awareness. DPS is all pew pew and big, pretty numbers. Tanking is quite a bit more than that, especially for inexperienced tanks.

Played the following in end game raid dps: Mage, Rogue, Hunter
Played the following in end game raid tanking: Warrior, DK
Played the following in end game raid healing: Druid
DPS is easy mode. If you have difficulties with it dont even attempt to tank. Watching the aggro meter while you press buttons is not skill, its the basics. Tanks watch the aggro, and how his current target is situated in relation to the group, and what adds are up or are comming, and to keep his mitigation abilities up, and constantly switch targets to verify you have aggro on all targets/maintain aggro on all targets, and then keep an eye on your r-tard dps to make sure they dont do anything stupid like pull aggro on a target not currently supposed to be dps'd, or breaking CC's.
There is just so many extra things tanks are supposed to do that most dps dont even stop to think about. You see a target, you press buttons and if your a good dps you watch your threat. The fact that good dps'ers are ones that merely watch their threat is proof dps is easy mode. Take that 10 steps further and now your tanking.
Healing is by far the most difficult aspect of this game. But tanking is a close second.

Tanking is by far harder than healing or dps. If im a healer just pop a couple of aoe healings or single healing spells depending on whos taking damage and there full.Dps...dps well all you have to do is dps. Now the tank, he should always be the first person to pull the mob. watching aggro is not the job of the dps is the job of everyone in the grp especially the tank. The tank should know what to do if your dumb dps runs ahead of him and pulls a mob. Tank has to know the instances, mobs, boss fights, etc. Just as an ending note; the tank is the nucleus of the grp, if anything fails most likely would be blamed on the tank and in my opinion thats why you see soo few good tanks out there. everyone else is a dk that thinks that they could tank just cuz they wear plate and can pop frost aura.

TL:DR
Simple
If tank is crap = Group Dies
If DPS is crap = Group takes seconds longer to kill something
This does not count bosses with enrage timers

Agree with Talamare:
If tank is crap = group/raid dies
If DPS is crap = group/raid takes seconds longer to kill something
If you do your job well:
tank = dps can do more and fast damage -> less time to close an instance
dps = you can top damage for your class/gear -> less time to close an instance
