for my mount, i found that cost wise, it wasn't worth it.
even if you farmed the mats you waste time instead of leveling or farming for gold
however, it's a frikken cool mount

But don't you have to have the epic mount before you can get a flying mount?

I think it is.
Using the prices listed on WoWhead for the items(your server's market may vary:
350g + mats. I'm a miner and I looked ahead so I had 6 thorium bars(6g), 6 arcane crystals(12g), 1 pristine black diamond(15g)and 1 azerothian diamond(10g) in the bank. Got a guild mate to make the Arcanite Bar(saved 18g over buying in AH), 40 runecloth(30s), 10 Arthas's tears(10s), and Enriched mana biscuits(60s)
Total: 395g
Buying a regular Epic mount: 560g(if exalted) to get riding skill(600 -120) + mount(100-20)
Buying a PvP EPic mount: 480g + PvP tokens
Added in the fact that it looks nice and is a class specific mount and yeah it's (imho) worth the time/money

I don't, just for the fact it takes precious time and someone else's time find the mats, travel, do part of an instance, etc etc
And what do you get?
A mount that costs mana and starts a global cooldown for you...
I did it, but if I had the chance again, I wouldn't.
I personally don't like the look of it either :(

my server, arcanite bars are usually 13-15G each
meaning that each transmute is 11G
40 runecloth(30s)
What? 30s?

Which is why all the prices I posted were from this site. You can get great deals on some servers and hosed on others.
Using the prices listed on WoWhead for the items(your server's market may vary:
Thorium Bars
Arcane Crystal
Arcanite Bar
Pristine Black Diamond
Azerothian Diamond
Runecloth
--Note I didn't do the math on this one right it should be 40x15s = 6g
Arthas' Tears
--Note I didn't do the math on this one right it should be 10x20s = 2g
Enriched Manna Biscuit
--Note I didn't do the math on this one right it should be 4x60s = 2g40s
With the corrected values: 403.4g
Still on average cheaper than buying one.
As for time, well a couple of level 70 guild mates helped me so we spent more time traveling than running the instances.
On a side note, getting the epic warlock mount is much more of a pain than the pally mount. It's not as bad since recent patches have lowered the mat requirements but you must go much further into both Scholo and DM to do it and do a lot more cross continent stuff. But you do get a cooler looking mount :)

thank you for the calculations, but I have to say:
Funny how people keep forgetting to add in time to gold conversion.
rather than running around the globe for one mount i could have bought a regular mount and farmed thorium or other things and probably have easily covered the difference in the prices.
1 bar of thorium = 1G
I can farm 2-3 stacks in 1 hour even if the day is slow
that's ~50G/hour
yea..

You're welcome. And you are right time = money
560g (epic if exalted) - 404g(for quest) = 156g
156g/50g/hr = 3hrs
With good help and planning you can easily run this in under 3 hours.
Suggestions:
1) get a mage in your party, portals help a lot. If you can't get a mage, you should still have you hearthstone set to Shat giving you 2-3 free "portals"
3) make a shopping list before you get to 60 and collect the items in advance.
Ex. when leveling up in early 50s in WPL buy the mana biscuits and store them in your bank
4) while leveling up try and get strat runs to get the holy water
With a mage helping you with portals and 2-3 70s you can easily do this in under 3 hours even if you didn't stock up all the items in advance. Even without a mage, if your home is shat 3 hours is not unreasonable.
Throw in some loot, the fact that running an instance is more fun than farming for gold, and the actual charger itself and ,imho, it's worth doing. The margin is even more if you are not exalted with the faction you are buying the mount/training from.
Chung Mee: Opium is my business. The bridge mean more traffic. More traffic mean more money. More money mean more power.
Lawrence Bourne III: Yeah, well, before I commit any of that to memory, would there be anything in this for me?
Chung Mee: Speed is important in business. Time is money.
Lawrence Bourne III: You said opium was money.
Chung Mee: Money is Money.
Lawrence Bourne III: Well then, what is time again?
