Process of leveling in Northrend?
Return to board index
I know the title may be somewhat confusing, but what I'm trying to ask is where do I level, then the next etc.
example) fjord->tundra->dragonblight>?>?>? and so on.
thanks in advance.
Level 70-72: Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord and Coldarra
Level 73-74: Dragonblight
Level 74: Grizzly Hills
Level 75: Zul'Drak
Level 76: Sholazar
Level 77-80: Storm Peaks and Icecrown.
A lot of the time you can move between zones when you get bored of one. I did it in the order above and found it quite easy, the only tedious part was Zul'Drak since I just really don't like that zone.
Of course, you can stay in zones for more than 1 level and just skip other zones completely.
From 77 I did Storm Peaks which lasted me until partway through 79, then I finished with Icecrown.
tundra>Fjord>Dragonblight>Grizzly Hills> Zul'Drak>Basin>Storm Peaks> Icecrown
Personally, I am doing...
Most people should be able to reach 80 long before finishing all zones. I cleared Howling and left there just before dinging 72 I believe, then went to Dragonblight (since I wished to reach higher level mobs more quickly to gather more cloth for tailoring and higher-level quest rewards for disenchanting). When I was done with DB I was already past 74 because of a few instance runs, then went to Grizzly hills and there I dinged 76.
Now I'm in Borean to finish that zone before mobs go grey there and I get penalized for it. I'll surely turn 77 and then some before I'm done...
Similar to FaaR. My hunter and priest are both almost 77 (my son plays one and we level together). Have pretty much got there via...Borean>>Dragonblight>>Grizzly plus instance runs. My plan is to do Sholazar>>Stormpeaks through to 80 and leave the other easier areas to go back to and pick up the enhanced gold.
I've finished these zones:
Borean Tundra +
Nothing Boring About Borean
Might of Dragonblight
Grizzly Hills +
Fo' Grizzle My Shizzle
Sholazar Basin +
Into the Basin
At the moment my warrior is 78, almost halfway to 79. I'm guessing either Storm Peaks or Icecrown will drive him to 80.
I did in order (completing all the quest achievements for those zones)...
Borean Tundra, Howling Fjord, Dragonblight and Zul'Drak.
And that barely got me to level 78. I just started on Icecrown and am now halfway to 79.
i am half way to lvl 79 and i have done 20 quests tops in Scholazar. the other zones i have been in are
but i have wanted to do as many quests as the Acheivements requared to get the bloody points.
2 of my friends at lvl 80 have just started in icecrown / stormpeaks now..
One good thing about doing all the quests is the faction you get. . if you have noticed no mobs give faction from killing them..
that can only be done from instances or quests.
he only tedious part was Zul'Drak since I just really don't like that zone.
Haha felt the exact same way, had to go back to Grizzly Hills and push my way to 76 to get the Sholazar Basin quests. I hated Zul Drak it was just way to annoying
Basically what I did was (With an arms warrior) quested in one zone until I got the quest achievement, then moved onto the next.
Borean Tundra--->Dragonblight--->Grizzly Hills(I stayed here until I finished all the quests except Venture Bay because I just loved this place)--->Zul'Drak(DEPRESSING)--->Sholazar Basin(This was fun)--->Icecrown
By the time I hit Icecrown I was lvl 79 and close to 80 because I focused on the achievements. So if you're an achievement#$%^& or just want to get rid of undone quests, I recommend this.
(I find Borean much better than Howling Fjord, because of the ease of moving around)
Zul'Drak is like leveling from 55-60...It sucks
i loved zul'drak, then again i did it with a flying mount, maybe that changes the experience...
YOU SHOULDN'T have to quest in icecrown or the storm peaks if you don't want to. Doing all the quests in previous zones WILL ding you to 80.
Howling Fjord + achievement
Borean Tundra + achievement
Dragonblight + achievement
Sholazar Basin (I dinged 80 a few quests before the achievement)
I did a lot of instances at the time, since it was the beginning of WOTLK.
I'm levelling my warlock at the moment but I will probably skip Dragonblight. I'm not even through with BT but seen as I mostly play on rested, I'm almost 75 already. I also do some easy dailies (cooking, kalua'k) for the rep and the quick xp.
Agreed, I dinged 80 in SP. I hadn't even seen Icecrown yet.
For my two 80s I did Tundra then Fjord, moved to Dragon Blight, then Zul Drak, then ended in the Basin. I would do all the quests there until they're all gone, especially Zul Drak. I may have skipped a few in Fjord, cuz that place sucked.
IMO stay at a place until the mobs are 4 levels under you, if thats how it ends up, then leave. You want it to be easy, and rewarding, not easy and boring.
Howling Fjord > Dragonblight > Grizzly Hills > Zul'Drak > Icecrown
If you get the quest achievements from 68 to 80, you'll do fine. Right when you get them you can easily start the next zone.
Borean and Scholozar are so bad.
So, so bad.
(Lately I just PvP for levels, though.)
Honestly, run Alterac Valley battleground through your 70s while questing. You'll be AMAZED how much XP you gain. I was getting 6-10% a level in experience PER BG GAME! That was W/O any heirlooms to assist. Additionally, Patch 3.2.2 now lets heirloom XP work in BGs.
Please note that
if your intent is to raid at lvl 80
, be SURE not to disregard critical quest lines to open up key faction-specific helm & shoulder enchants. Its easy to become lazy about running quests inbetween BGs, but this is very important if you want to be taken seriously by a progressive raiding guild. They want to see that you're working toward obtaining the best enchants available for each gear piece...regardless of how you chose to level your character.
At Lvl 77:
Start K3 (Storm Peaks) quest line called "They Took Our Men." This quest line eventually opens up the Sons of Hodir faction's area/Flight Path for you to use. This faction is the ONLY WAY you can obtain your shoulder enchant regardless of what class/spec you are. There is NO tabard and the only way to grind rep is via dailies, Relics of Ulduar and Everfrost Chips.
If a Tailor:
Its best to focus more on quest grinding than BGs since you'll need the Frostweave cloth drops off every mob you kill AND you must complete key Northrend achievements to learn both ilvl 200 cloak tailoring patterns.
If you enjoy Lore
: Make SURE to complete all of the Dragonblight quests, all the way up to Veteran of the Wrath Gate. There is an excellent epic movie then battle for the Undercity (in Vanilla WoW) you get to experience. I HIGHLY recommend this! Other than that...excellent lore throughout Northrend, but specifically in Storm Peaks & Icecrown (lvl 77+ areas).
If a Skinning Prof:
Go to Shol Basin at lvl 76. Excellent quest line with TONS of skinning available!
Without BoA's or RAF, I hit 80 on both my Shaman and my Death Knight in Zul'drak, after completing both Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord, Dragonblight, and Grizzly Hills.
With 20% increased XP from BoA's I hit 80 shortly after entering Grizzly Hills on my Warlock, having completed the previous 3 zones.
