So i am thinking of making my hunter a pure pvp hunter, but I dont know if i should still stack for agi, or raw atk power.
Which should i stack for?
I am PvP only and I still stack agility. Everything I have read leads me to believe that because it offers more than "just ap" it is still the better stat to gem for. That said, I do gem for socket bonuses when the bonus is resillience. That's just my preference.
well agi is always better but it also comes down to how good your agi gems are.
you might consider a +20 attack power gem over a +4 agi / some other stat gem if you don't have the money to buy a better +10 agi gem.
i gem for attack power first when i first get gear, but then afterwards i start looking at +10 agi gem prices and start requesting from the guild if i can take some from the stocked gems.
Agility all the way, even if it's only uncommon gems in honored rep PvP blues.
1 point in Agility adds 1 AP (melee and ranged), .029& Crit chance, .04% dodge and 2 Armor.
Even with AP gems at 2:1 per point versus Agility, the dodge and armor will help more in PvP than the total of AP.
I would use Agility enchants for all pieces of gear, unless you want to enchant with Resilience.
I would use Agility gems (Delicate Blood Garnet/Living Ruby/Crimson Spinel) for all red gem sockets, and any other socket where you don't care about keeping the socket bonus.
If you want to use the other colors, I would use +Agility & +stamina gems (purple) for Blue sockets (Shifting Shadow Draenite/Nightseye/Shadowsong Amethyst).
Alternatively, you could use pure stamina gems in Blue sockets (Solid Azure Moonstone/Star of Elune/Empyrean Sapphire).
For yellow sockets, I would use Resilience in PvP gear (Mystic Dawnstone/Lionseye)
Alternatively, you could use Hit rating / Agility gems if you have less than 5% to-hit (79 rating) (Glinting Flame Spessarite/Noble Topaz/Pyrestone).
I don't PvP myself, but from looking at high end PvP hunters, most of them socket AP. I don't know why, but they do. Maybe they want the consistent dps gained from the AP rather than the possible burst from crit. I guess resilience also lowers the value of crit as resilience lowers the crit damage by up to 25%, making it 239% * .75 = 179.25% damage from a crit.
