Shadow Priest Build
Return to board index
Alright, I have looked over a few of the sticky's and guides to see a good priest shadow build to make but I don't know which guide to follow. I know that there is no "perfect" build, but I was wondering what build most pro's or members of Wowhead use. My priest is currently a level 17 undead with 5 points in blackout, 2 in improved shadow pain, and 1 in shadow focus. Basically I was just wanting to know if I have already messed up my character in the sense that he won't be good for pvp. If all else fails I guess I can relearn my talents to holy spec since they are always sought after.
Sounds like you're doing fine to me. I'd get Wand Specialization next, then go back to the Shadow tree. Then at 40, remember to get Shadow form, no matter the cost. It's full of levelling win.
I usually do 3 spirit tap, 2 blackout. Even so, I leveled full blackout.
I have taken to leveling disc now, as the survivability and utility is greater than I found leveling with shadow. Not to mention, you get to throw those 5 points in wand w/o sacrificing anything. Even at 70, it's more useful to be disc, as it solos well, and heals well.
DPS is dime a dozen, and healers are always in demand.
I still try to remain shadow, but one thing that will always help when you are seeking gear, is to be able to flop to heals.
Anyway, to the subject at hand.
is what you should look like at 40 for basic PvE. And once you get shadowform, it's smooth sailing. Next time I have a new priest hit 40, I may flop from Disc to Shadow. Shadowform is when you truly begin to melt face.
any priests that want to and usually play shadow as their main spec should always have a healing set that they should keep up to date so that u can switch to whatevers needed. god knows how many times i have gone healing for ZA/KZ when they needed a healer and not a dps. always make the RL know that ur Main spec is shadow and that u want to need on dps gear as if u where shadow. thats what i did. now im walking around with a healing set witch gives me 1.9k healng and a dps set that gives me 1034 shadow dmg. Utility here we are!
GET SPIRIT TAP FOR LEVELING
Well, its true. You can't beat spirit tap, and so many cloth items have spirit while leveling, so even better.
If you don't care about leveling that much, and you want to focus on pvp, then black out is fine, but get spirit tap if you want to level.
This is a great lvl 70 build for any shadow priest and once you get around 130 Hit rating go into Improved Shadow word: Pain ... this spec is purely PvE
Not getting Imp SW:P is silly. Drop points out of Shadow Weaving and/or Mind Blast to get it. 5/5 isn't necessary at all; 4/5 suffices, and 3/5 is perfectly fine if you're not the only Spriest in the raid.
For a pure PvE build, I'd also go with Spirit Tap over Blackout, but that's mostly personal preference.
Also, the hit cap with 5/5 in Shadow Focus is 76; having significantly more than that is a waste, and often means that you can drop points out of Shadow Focus.
Even so, this is all moot, given that OP is level 17, and therefore doesn't want a raid build.
For levelling, I'd go with
(5 in Spirit Tap first, then 5 in Wand Spec), then when you ding 40, respec to get Shadowform. After that, keep working up the Shadow tree to VT, then start putting your points back into Disc.
