That sounds like a bad ad, please see
this guide on how to report it to Wowhead in the best way possible
, so that they can blacklist it.

I've just noticed this same issue. Wowhead is sitting here chewing through a megabyte every few seconds just for sitting on a page.
Constant issues like this are why I continually advise people to avoid Wowhead like the plague if they're on a capped plan. I'd have blown through a month's worth of data in a few minutes at this rate.

The IP address in question belongs to a company called Instart Logic. Instart Logic is legitimate, and Wowhead is using their services to serve content. Blocking that IP will prevent core things from loading.
It may be coincidental, but I've been seeing Wowhead's number of requests and page size continue to improve over the past couple of hours. Several of the ads that tried to load befoer were dishing out 403/404/503 responses, though, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's just loading ads right away instead of failing to load one and then succeeding to load another.
Either way, the data usage is still completely unacceptable. The home page should not be anywhere near several megabytes in size, and things like the model viewer should not load in automatically while downloading over a dozen megabytes in one go.

I'm not the least bit tech savvy, so I apologize in advance, but I navigated my way to this thread trying to see what could be found related to my own problem (Chrome running out of memory on Wowhead pages - see screenshot). Is it related to this issue perhaps? Like many others I have, for a long time, always had numerous Wowhead tabs open in my browser on a second monitor. Recently, after being up for a little while, I'm finding that as I go back to them all of the pages show the same error. This has been happening for a couple of days now, so the timing seems to fit.

DawnSeven, several people have complained about issues when they have Wowhead open in a Chrome tab. Some have reported poor latency and high data usage, while others mention poor system performance and instability.
I would highly recommend installing uBlock Origin if you don't have it already. uBlock Origin will reduce the number of requests from several thousand down to maybe a couple hundred or so. Additionally, I see page sizes drop from potentially several megabytes to a few hundred kilobytes. Background network activity and CPU load drops significantly as well.
The ads on Wowhead do not respect users' security, privacy, or system resources, and I recommend blocking them at least until Wowhead can get things sorted out.

uBlock Origin didn't stop it. I've had it since I first switched over to Chrome and I've had massive lag issues still with it on.

To add to the info in this thread, I run Vivaldi, which is a Blink-based browser (Same as Chrome) and I often have a few tabs open for WoWhead. With the exception of loading problems of the site I have not experienced any issues. I do run ublock origin, but I am a Patron (even turned it back on before subbing to see if it was an ad).
It might be anecdotal, but the problem may be Chrome specific or even region specific (I am in Canada).

I experience a lot of these issues with the new advertising surrounds that have been added recently. I'm currently using chrome, and wowhead tabs have been consuming a lot of memory. Up to 450mb per tab.

Same happening to me. It's very annoying... everytime I open wowhead now chrome starts uploading at maximum speed to the point it affects me trying to do anything.
Sort it out please.

I'm not as tech-savy as the original poster, but can confirm the issue. First noticed it happening more than a month ago now. Issue was ignored then, maybe now the techs will do something. It really is a joke.

I am experiencing the same issue. If I am in game and open wowhead, my ingame latency shoots through the roof, then goes away once i close wowhead or go to a different website. I have noticed this over the past few days.

Experiencing the same, With adblockers turned off wowhead eats up bandwidth causing me to send & receive 10Mbps or so, What the hell is it causing me to send?

Sounds like those background movies, like the Playstation VR one are preloading in play mode to me, shouldn't they be in paused mode?

I'm having the same issue. Can't play WOW if WOWHEAD is up. My latency goes from 35 to 2000+. At first i thought is was my wife doing something till a few days ago I closed WOWHEAD and my latency went back to normal. I can go to any other WOW help sight, or any other web site for that matter. and don't have any issues.

You don't say, lol. Wowhead is literally the ONLY (supposedly) legit site I've visited which has forcibly forwarded me to hardcore porn sites multiple times since I got a broadband connection in december 2000.
...And when I say hardcore porn, I mean a picture of a naked lady filling the entire browser window, with her legs splayed wide open, leaving absolutely nothing for the imagination. Fun thing to come back to when I've been playing the game for a while and want to check which the next group of mobs I need to pickpocket for those damn dice toys or whatever.
I made a couple posts about it here on the feedback forum some time ago and the only response I got from Wowhead staff was "use the report bad ad feature",
but I can't
. When the ad - which is just an invisible script - forwards you, you can't get back to Wowhead anymore. Every time you hit the back button you just end up on the porn site yet again.
...And before you get forwarded, there's nothing visible on the page that signals that you will at some time get forwarded without any user interaction, to porn.
So it's impossible to report anything.
The reason this happens is because Wowhead/ZAM are using such damn scummy ad providers.
They need to stop with that, because it's totally ruining the site's reputation. You can build something for over a decade, then tear it all down in a few months. This has been going on for much longer than that, I might add.
STOP SERVING UP BAD ADS FROM BAD ACTOR AD PROVIDERS! STOP IT, AND STOP IT NOW!

Also having the same issues described here, on Chrome, using
TWO
adblock plugins, neither of which seem to stem the tide of uploading @#$% forced by WoWhead. This needs to stop soon.
