Quickest way to gear for PVP?
Return to board index
I've played off and on since BC, didn't have my first max level character until WOTLK came out, I really do enjoy playing PvP, but i have never done arenas, I'd like to try these some day but i can't figure out how to get a full set of PvP gear without it taking me a couple of months. So how do you all do it? is there some tricks i'm missing?
There are quests that award Honour, do those and then just grind the BG's till your eyes bleed. All you can really do.
Personally I'm farming dungeons for Justice Points, which I then convert to Honor Points.
500 JPs will give you 250 HPs. If you get into a decent group, you can finish Heroic Dungeons within 5-10 minutes depending on which dungeon you run. I can't remember the estimated outcome, but I do remember that it's a generally higher yield to farm Dungeons than it is to farm Battlegrounds.
Battlegrounds will probably still be faster if you get into a winning streak, but I find that to be rare and too unreliable - atleast in my battlegroup. (I hate having to rely on chance)
Other than getting decent Justice Points/Honor Points, this is also a great way to earn quick gold, and to raise factions to exalted.
Also, I might add - and I'm not sure if this is widely known - but the faction tabards from Cataclysm will give reputation in Mists of Pandaria dungeons as well. (I.e. not just Cataclysm dungeons as the tabard tooltips claim)
start your day with isle of thunder dailies. then play them bg's for rest of the day. during queueing to them bg's do some dailyquest to get gold for those repairs and potion purchasings.
also, make sure to jump in timeless islands celestial fight once a week to perhaps get some gear.
You can get a nice chunk from weekly tol barad victory quest, which affected by the guild banner can net up to 800ish honor.
Although there may be faster ways I would suggest doing bgs for all your gear. Just because you have the gear doesn't mean you are going to be good at pvp. If you do BGs you can get used to your class and know what classes you have problems with and what you can do to counter that. Also it will give you that much more satisfaction when you get a new piece of gear and you can really see the difference when you get a new weapon.
If you just grind dungeons all day until you get get a full set of pvp gear without stepping into a bg you're gonna get pooped on. Also I'm gonna assume that your not a glad player so if your not into bgs what are you in to? Arenas are fun but its a small part of the pvp experience.
I get that bgs can get old quick but a big part of that might be your class/role. I never really enjoyed pvp on my Rdruid. Simple as that it just wasn't fun for me. But when I played a dk it was a lot more fun, finally I had a chance to kill people.
I realized that having !@#$ gear in PvP Blows... but you just have to adjust your play style and chances are having crap gear in bgs will force you to be a better pvper and force you to play with skill. But yea... it sucks for a while, but shouldn't be too long if you just grind bgs hard, defend when you can to minimize getting being a target you can get a base set of pvp gear in a few days then you will stand a chance.
TL;DR If you don't enjoy pvp why even bother getting pvp gear at all?
defend when you can to minimize getting being a target you can get a base set of pvp gear in a few days then you will stand a chance.
Lack of pvp gear has nothing to do with the survivability as resilience isnt on gear any more. It will hurt your outputs, whether its healing or damage. That is unless you dont have full set of 496 Timless gear for starters and trying to run bgs with green quest gear. That will hurt everything.
AV weekend is the quickest way to gear up. Geared up fully in 2-3 days with it.
Pair up with someone and get your conquest cap in 2v2 arenas & rated BG's. You can use the addon oqueue to find premade groups/teams, even crossrealm.
After that, lots of BG's, or run dungeons and convert JP to HP.
OQ is severly outdated atm and doesnt work. At least was, couple of days ago.
Karasang Wilds elites = 900
Isle of Thunder dailies = 625
Grizzly Hills dailies = 200
Add your guild and banner bonuses and you can easily get a new piece every day without ever setting foot in a battleground, let alone winning one. Further to that, WG and TB are pretty much ghost towns these days, that's easily another 1000 right there.
As gratscot says though, if you'd rather do dailies than BGs why would you need PVP gear at all?
Now I don't care where other people get their gear from, but there are no equivalent solo dailies for JP gear (as far as I know?) and between this and the new 'everyone-has-the-same-resilience' it seems like Blizzard are trying quite hard to lower the barrier for PVP.
Hey, you don't need to do any arenas in order to get your weekly Conquest cap. The conquest reward for winning random BG is more then enough. Perhaps you will need 1 rated battleground win per week to get your cap, but thats easily done with people from /trade chat :)
Wintergrasp - gives ~500 honor for a win if you have max rank. Also there are 3x75 honor weekly quests.
Tol barad - gives ~300-400 honor + weekly quest for 300honor.
If you are pvp player as you stated, you should just do battlegrounds and you will be fine. Blizzard increased honor gain from battlegrounds recently, so in 1-2 weeks you should be full geared (depends how much you spend to play per day).
For honor gear just grind a crap ton of justoce points and convert much faster for horde, for conquest just do arenas and rbgs
