WoW + SSD
Return to board index
I plan to install WoW on SSD. My current budget goes for a 120 gb, so question is : What is the current
required WoW size ? I will format and download from scratch since I am playing for years and my current wow folder has a ton of mambo jambo (ancient patches etc) that I am almost sure are not needed. So will a 120 gb SSD fit Windows 7 + WoW ? Has anyone done it ?
I currently run WIn 7 and WOW.....on a Kingston Hyper X 120 SSD
it is only Sata 2...but it is a vast improvement.
And Up to date and with minimal add on's. My wow folder is 24Gig's
If I removed everything else but wow and 7....lots of room...no doubt
Hope this helps
My wow folder is 24Gig's
My WoW folder is 24 Gigs, too. I just checked.
I'm using a 120 SSD with Windows 8 and WoW on it quite comfortably.
Unless you plan to run several other games, 120 GB will be fine for a system drive with WoW installed there. As others mentioned, a clean install is around 24 GB. You can factor in future expansion of (liberally) 20% if you intend to be using the same setup -- and still playing -- two expansions down the line. ~30 GB of room should be more than enough for the foreseeable future for WoW alone.
You'll safely want around the same size for a full Windows 7 install. While a clean install should clock in at a lot less than 30 GB, updates and service packs are less predictable.
I have a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit install; along with WoW (and addons); Skyrim with all 3 DLCs and with plenty of mods, some absolutely massive (DLC-sized); and many other large programs like Photoshop, Office and Visual Studio. It all sits comfortably in an 80 GB partition. Your 120 should be perfect if your game library is not considerably larger.
