Custom ui for switching monitors
Return to board index
I am in the process of getting back into the game and I'm trying to build a custom ui I used previously. the problem is that my main computer now is a pre retina display 15 inch MacBook Pro and I am also using a 16:9 ratio 20 something inch monitor. (sorry I don't have exacts ill get them later if needed).
I would really like to be able to swap between using the MacBook screen ( like when traveling or being lazy) and then swapping to the bigger screen and I would want my ui to seamlessly be Able to swap between these two screens without needing to reshuffle my screen elements or resizing anything. does anyone have any tips for making this happen? I feel I need to emphasis that I'm not using both simultaneously. I want to be able to be playing on my big monitor. log out and unplug and then open my Mac on a couch and log in using the macs screen without any ui moving. my ui is a simple kg panels dominos and pitbull ui with most things centered at bottom with nothing to fancy going on.
I realize that this might be impossible and maybe what I need is someone to tell me I am crazy. I am open to any alternatives anyone has. I feel like the solution probably includes automatic resizing of ui elements but I have just don't know how to go about it. thanks for any help y'all can give!
There probably is an addon that can do UI profiles, but dont quote me on that. I'm at work so im not going to go looking for it.
I will say though, the first solution that comes to my mind is:
Have 2 WTF folders in your WoW directory.
WTF folders hold all the information related to addons, settings, macros etc.
on WTF #1 you will have the config for your laptop UI.
on WTF #2 will be the config for your main monitor UI
Rename the inactive UI to "WTF inactive" (or anything)
and the active UI you want must always be named "WTF"
Actually that would be perfect. I think I might even be able to convince a friend of mine to write a script with a button on my desktop that can automatically switch the folders. I had been thinking so long about how to fix this in game I never even thought about the classic backing up and swapping interface files. Thanks for the help!
