WOW chromebook How to:
Return to board index
Since no one wrote this yet that I found I will give you my 5 hours of tinkering and first time on Linux on How to run Wow on your chromebook. Im running a 5 550, should work on others.
1. Install ChrUbuntu lots of how to's online
2. Install wine from app store
3. steal wow from Windows PC, put it on external HDD.
4. configure config.WTF add these lines to the bottom
SET ffxDeath "0"
SET ffxGlow "0"
SET gxApi "opengl"
5. Make your gfx card compatable like this:
1. driconf install, sudo apt-get install driconf
2. open driconf (via terminal), go to the tab "image quality" and activate the S3TC texture compression, even if the software support is not available. (Default is "no" change to "yes")
6. ENJOY WOW on your chromebook!
1. go to HDD and right click on WOW.exe and go to run with wine.
- I kinda wish google would release linux drivers for these, but it seems to work fine like this.
-I play on low settings with maxxed out view distance, sometimes I think I have a little trouble with the wifi settings
I forgot to add, to get it not to crash when alt tabing, enter winecfg in console and force it to run at your native resolution enjoy, I hope i get good responces! im on my chromebook in ubuntu right now
like i said also, first time on linux, it was way easier than expected! I think I might switch my gaming rig to linux.
World of Warcraft on Chromebook!
20 fps average in orgimar.
-back to wow!
20 fps average in orgimar.
On which settings and, perhaps more important, on which resolution?
native 1280*800, i didnt want to go lower lol, the reason i did this is because i play with my gf, and i was playing on a netbook with a single core 1.6 atom, 512 ram (extreme lagg) at 600*800, i was about to add ram and a ssd, but no need anymore... im giving the netbook away haha
oh ya my gf plays on my gaming rig
8 gb ram mild overclock at 2133mhz
64 gb ssd
western digital blue 320gb x2 in raid 0
on high, and the play quality is arround the same, fps average of this machine in orgimar is 24 @ 720p
low settings with high view distance. so i can see far away. at 1280*800, it doesnt even max out 1 core in the chromebook, so multitasking great while in game, the acer c7 is single core though, so multitasking is not guaranteed, I saw there was one person on youtube who got it working on a acer c7, he had no multitasking going on, he said no lag in game though, the lowest my fps will drop is 16, and a average of 22 in orgimar, according to titan.
is there any way I can post screen shots?
EDIT AGAIN: decided to put some benchmarks of fps in orgimar up
1.ULTRA SETTINGS: 10 fps
2.HIGH: 13 fps
3: GOOD: 15 fps
4: FAIR: 18 fps
5. LOW: 25
I switch the view distance to High and get 22 fps.
all at native resolution of 1280*800, and im not sure why, but at lower resolutions frame rates drop
I just figured out that my cpu a celeron 867 has intel hd 2000 graphics integrated.
Or you could go and download the whole thing on ubuntu by going into wine tricks and select install game go all the way down to WoW retail but it might take a long time
how do i do step 3,4,5, nd 1
