Holy priest pve healing advice.
Return to board index
I'm currently leveling a holy priest. He is level84 right now. While leveling precata 5mans I was always complimented on my healing and only had 2 wipes that whole time. But now I'm doing cats runs and it just seems like everything changes. Tanks are getting two shot before I can even heal them. And it seems that people just seem to expect me to heal them through anything. For example in the 5man with the boss that does the whole thing with the torandos people just stand outside the ring and expect me to keep them up. Or casters will get within melee range of a mob or boss and take unneccesary damage. I've actually life gripped them a few times to make my point and they just run back! Any advice would be.appreciated.
I was having a lot of trouble when my priest hit 90 actually. I loved raiding as holy, and I just couldn't keep up with AOE heals (since it seems like Circle of Healing does nothing anymore). Then I realized that I wasn't using a talent to it's full potential:
Prayer of Healing procs this often, and gives you an instant reset of your PoM that heals right away (not after the player takes damage). It's amazing.
Other than that, I'd say just focus on using your PoM on CD and just spam your standard Heal on the tank.
Basically Lancecaster said, also keep in mind that holy is currently the weakest healing spec, might want to work on disc, seeing that it is fairly overpowered at the moment.
think, us should just spamm prayer of healing. thats what i do on my holy priest.
Also us mindbender allot for ur mana,
also your power world serentie is nice!
If people take unessesery dmg, tell them to wach out (sometimes they ignore). Use PW:Shild before the boss casts his special attack. Always have PW: Sanctuary under tank or dps if they are ranged and take alot of dmg. If there is some critical situation, like when everyone is on low hp, then use CoH, PoM, PoH and Cascade or Halo depends what you use. Also Divine Hymn can save sometimes.
When bosses have strong attacks sometimes cast Guardian Spirit on tank folowed by flash heal and greater heal ( reduced cost because of talents ) it its nessesery.
OP if your tank is getting 2 shot he/she is doing something wrong, not using CDs, pulling too much or something else. That kind of damage does not sound like a healing issue but maybe low gear or even a dps queueing as a tank or a player in PvP gear which has no avoidance and makes them very squishy for PvE.
There also is some things in the game where folks are not suppose to be getting hit by something or that the damage should be shared. You see this a lot in a number of raids.
For the tornado I do not think you can really keep them up though that. My priest is pretty well geared but that mechanic is designed to do a lot of damage to whoever gets caught in it. I have tried to heal folks though it but with line of sight problems and the amount of damage done, I do not think I was successful in saving anyone once they got caught. Tell them that it is a game thing that a player must avoid.
For folks standing in the fire or whatever all you can do is try to heal them but in those cases unless you popped your best and fastest they are going down and you do not want to blow all your mana to keep a dps up if that person likes to stand in the fire. I think if anything a few deaths helps them learn what and what not to do.
As others stated you can always power word shield your tank if they are squishy, keep renew on them and keep Prayer of Mending on cool down. This will give you time to use greater heal or you can spam flash heals if you need to.
It isn't always a healing issue when the party wipes. There is a lot of things others can do to avoid damage but do not use them expecting a healer to carry them though.
